Organized in 1859, Chase County was named for Salmon P. Chase, who was Secretary of the Treasury and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Cottonwood Falls is the county seat; besides the cities listed at the left, other communities include Bazaar, Clements, Gladstone, Hymer, Rural, Toledo and Wonsevu.
