Letters of S. M. Cowan to W. P. Seaton and B. A. Cowan to A. Seaton
Boston Mills, Cherokee Co., Kansas, Dec. 22, 1886
Dear Cousin:
I received your kind note of the 13th. Was glad to hear from you
but was so sorry to hear of your fathers sickness, but I hope he will
get better now. That was a big snow you had. We had a light skift at
that time. And had no snow or rain since then. And it is very dry here
but I am trying to plow for corn. Have broken 15 acres. Wheat don't
look very well. It is suffering for rain.
Christmas is on hand. We are expecting a big time at our
school-house. Old Santy is coming in a load of drawn hay. Sure expect a
big laugh.
I will close for this time, hoping to hear from you soon. Goodbye from your cousin, S. M. Cowan to W. P. Seaton.
N. B. Samuel forgot to tell you that we was all well and harty
and doing the best we can. We have plenty to live on but have to buy
corn. We fed all we raised to hogs and it hardly paid but we had the
hogs and sold at three cents gross. Corn is 33 to 40 a bushel, wheat 65
to 75, butter 25, eggs 20. Stagk Jocose and family is well. Brother, I
hope you will not be late when I hear from you again.
Right soon. B. A. Cowan to A. Seaton
