MURDERS, MYSTERIES AND SPOOKY
A Kansas Man Shot Down in Cold Blood by a Mob
TOPEKA, KAN., March 27---Information was received here Thursday giving an account of the murder of Thomas Duncan, of Cheyenne county, by a mob of White-Caps. The first news of this terrible crime came from that sparsely settled and remote region in a letter to Governor Humphrey asking that a reward be offered for the murderers. The letter stated that "about 12 o'clock on the 16th inst. Mrs. Duncan was awakened by the dog barking.
SHOT THROUGH THE HEART
On getting up and going out she was met by a mob
of men with guns and a rope. She fled into the house, and was followed by the mob who ordered her to light the
lamp. This she did, and they called for Duncan. He came out of an adjoining room. As he approached the door
he said, "Good evening." The mob fired, one ball striking him and passing through his heart. No cause
is assigned for the deed. Governor Humphrey has offered $200 reward for the murderers.
