Organized in 1859, Coffey County was named after Col. A. M. Coffey, who was a member of the first Territorial Legislature. Bulinglton is the county seat; besides the cities listed at the left, other communities include Agricola, Aliceville, Halls Summit, Ottumwa and Sharpe.
