ALEXANDER, FERN CLOETA
Alexander, Fern Cloeta, 86, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2003 after a short
stay at Columbine Care Center East, Fort Collins, Colo. Memorial service 11 a.m. Tuesday, Memorial Lawn Cemetery,
Arkansas City, Kan.
Fern was born May 10, 1916 in Nowata, Okla. to Henry and Maude Pogue. Her early years were spent in the Nowata
area and then Arkansas City. She was a member of the Comet Motorcycle Club and played banjo in her brother's band.
In 1942 she married Lewis "Tex" Alexander and they spent most of their married years in Wichita. She
helped as a bookkeeper and substitute truck driver in her husband's motion picture film delivery business.
Fern was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church (formerly Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church)
where she made lifelong friends. She was a volunteer in PTA and scouting. She enjoyed TOPS club, bowling, fishing,
her dogs, family history and "exploring."
In 1995, despite strong roots in Kansas, she surprised her family with the decision to move to Fort Collins to
be near them. She loved her retirement years at Good Samaritan. She was a woman of strong faith and everyone said
her best qualities were her ready smile and unfailing positive attitude.
Preceded in death by her husband, Tex in 1980; daughter, Joan in 1991; brother, Powell Pogue on March 2, 2003.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Eileen; granddaughter and husband, Kris and Jim Dunlap all of Fort
Collins, Colo.; granddaughter, Sarah Alexander of Dublin, Ireland; many family members and special friends. Memorial

Idah Elizabeth "Betty" Anderson, 76 of Arkansas City died Saturday,
March 18, 2006 at her residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2006 at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery Chapel in Arkansas
City. Brother James "Babe" Standerfer will officiate.
Betty was born January 18, 1930 in Silverdale. She attended Dexter Schools as a young girl.
She married Edgar L. Brown at the age of 16, and he preceded her in death. She later married Steven F. Anderson
on November 5, 1976 in Miami, OK. She was a homemaker and member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her husband, Steven Anderson of the home; son, Thomas L. Brown and his wife, Deborah of South
Haven; sister, May Shelton of Arkansas City; brother, Raymond Neal of Oklahoma, seven grandchildren and 16 great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband;a daughter Laura Teer three brothers, Johnny Neal, Jess
Neal and Bill Neal and three sisters, Dorothy Cook, Joyce Waite and Wilda Waite.

Lovella Lavon Anderson, 71 of Arkansas City died, Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at
her residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2007 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas
City. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Lavon was born January 11, 1936 to Claude Cass White and Thelma (Roupp) in Arkansas City. She attended Arkansas
City schools, graduating form the high school in 1955.
On September 21, 1956 she married Floyd B. Anderson in Arkansas City where the couple has made their home since.
Lavon was primarily a homemaker, she worked briefly for Newman's Dry Goods and USD 470 transportation. She was
a member of the West Kansas Avenue Church of God and gospel band.
Lavon is survived by her husband, Floyd Anderson of the home; daughter, Pam Anderson of Arkansas City; sisters,
Wanda Hickey and husband, Wesley of Arkansas City, Charlotte Colbert of Valley Center; grandson, Cody Griesel of
Florence, CO; granddaughter, Kylee Armer of Arkansas City; niece, Kim Moss and husband, Keith of Valley Center;
nephews, Don Hickey and wife, Jackie of Arkansas City, Aaron Hickey of Texarkana, AR and Craig Colbert of Valley
Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Paul B. White and son, Rick Anderson.

Eugene Henry "Jake" Applegate, 81, of Arkansas City died, Wednesday,
September 20, 2006, at the Life Care Center of Andover.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 25, 2006, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas
City. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Jake was born November 26, 1924, to Henry Applegate and Eunice Elizabeth (Wills) Applegate in Shell Knob, MO. He
graduated from Cassville High School, Cassville, MO in 1943.
Jake served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. On July 28, 1951, he married Opal Marie Schwartz in Arkansas
City where the couple made their home. Jake worked for the Kansas Gas Service until his retirement.
He is survived by his daughter, Jean Ann Conkling and her husband, Mike, of Pretty Prairie, KS; three sons, Charles
Lee Applegate and his wife, Joanne of Wichita, KS, Donald Eugene Applegate and Alan Henry Applegate, both of Arkansas
City; and four grandchildren, Tara Conkling, Andrea Conkling, Amanda Applegate and Alex Applegate.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Opal, in 2005; four brothers, Oren Applegate, Loyd Applegate,
Loren Applegate and Paul Applegate; five sisters, Dona Redding, Rena Grimes, Avis Alexander, Erma Faye Shrider
and Nettie Williams.
Memorials have been established with Creative Community Living and with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions

Opal Marie Applegate, 79, of Arkansas City, died Tuesday (January 25, 2005) at
the Medicalodge North Post Acute Care Home of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday
(January 27, 2005) at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Opal was born January 18, 1926 in Arkansas City to Anthony William and Anna Marie (Schindler) Schwartz. She was
reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1944. Opal then attended St.
John's Nursing School and later Wichita Hospital Nursing School. Opal married Eugene Henry "Jake" Applegate
on July 28, 1951 in Arkansas City. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. She worked as a registered nurse
for several years at St. Mary's Hospital of Winfield, the Arkansas City Memorial Hospital (SCKRMC), and a private
duty nurse until she quit to take care of her family.
Survivors include her husband Jake of Wichita; three sons Alan and Don of Winfield, Charlie and his wife Joanne
of Wichita; one daughter Jean and her husband Mike Conkling of Pretty Prairie, Kansas; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Victor Schwartz and two sisters Catherine Bowman and Dorothy
Chrastek.
A memorial has been established with Creative Community Living. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Richard L. Barnthouse, 79, of Arkansas City, died Thursday (August 9, 2007) at
the Kansas Veterans' Home of Winfield. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday (August 11, 2007)
at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Richard was born July 19, 1928, in Winfield to Ralph C. and Edna (Mumaugh) Barnthouse. He was reared and educated
in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1946. He served in the United States Army with the 43rd Armored
Infantry, mostly in Germany. While in the army he played football and baseball along side professionals to help
entertain the troops overseas. He married Joanna Buzzi on February 27, 1954, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The couple lived in or near Arkansas City all their married lives. He worked for the Consolidated Gas Company for
eight years. He then worked as a salesman and later sales manager for Tubb's Motors for twenty years. He was a
member of the First Christian Church of Winfield, the Shelton Beaty Post #18 American Legion, the Spencer-Ralston
Post 1254 VFW, the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. Richard's greatest
loves were his family, his horses and Arkansas City Sports.
Survivors include his wife Joanna of the home; four sons Rick and his wife Sally of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Tom and
his wife Lynnette of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Jim and his wife Malia of Arkansas City, Tim of Edmond, Oklahoma; three
daughters Kathy and her husband David Avery, Lea Ann and her husband Tim Orman, Tammy and her husband Rod Hoag
all of Arkansas City; one sister Martha Wright of Winfield; a brother Harry and wife June Barnthouse; grandchildren

Robert Lee "Bob" Barr, 53, Arkansas City, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007,
at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday March 9,
2007, at the First Presbyterian Church of Arkansas City. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends
may greet the family from 6- 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Bob was born May 13, 1953, in Independence, Mo.,
to Charles B. and Venice L. (Nielsen) Barr. He was reared and educated in Independence, graduating from VanHorn
High School in 1971. He later graduated from Phillips University of Enid and he received his master's degree in
education from Southwestern College of Winfield. Bob married Melody Patterson on Aug. 3, 1985, at the Central Christian
Church of Arkansas City. Bob played for the Kansas City Royals Baseball Club in 1976. He taught school in Arkansas
City for several years before teaching in Douglass USD 396. Presently, Bob was the technology director of USD 396,
Douglass. Bob coached baseball and basketball in Arkansas City from little leagues to high school. He was an avid
golfer and bowler, but his favorite activity was attending his children's events. Bob was an active member of the
Random Road Chapel and a member of the Association of Professional Ball Players of America. Survivors include his
wife, Melody; a daughter, Melissa; a son, Bradley, all of the home; his mother, Venice Barr, of Independence, Mo.;
two sisters, Arlene and her husband, Wayne Williams, of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Ruth and her husband, Bob Speaks,
of Lee's Summit, Mo.; in-laws, Duane and Darlene Patterson, of Arkansas City; several nieces and nephews; and his
faithful companion and beloved dog, Penny. He was preceded in death by his father and a great-niece, Kathleen Williams.

Voneita was born March 22, 1922 to Harvey Dwyer and Callie (Dwyer) Flowers in Arapaho, OK. She was raised by Harry
Benshoof and her mother, Callie. Voneita attended Arkansas City High School, graduating on 1941.
On May 20, 1941 she married Robert Lee Bartlett, Sr. in Medford, OK and the couple made their home in Arkansas
City. She was a homemaker.
Voneita is survived by her son, Robert L. Bartlett, Jr. and his wife, Ona of Phoenix, AZ; three daughters, Judith
Moore and her husband, Lyall of Arkansas City, Mary Briggs and her husband, Michael of Oklahoma City and Susan
DeLong and her husband, Greg of Arkansas City; daughter in law, Karen Bartlett of Norman, OK; two sisters, Jean
Peterson of Colorado Springs, CO and Joyce Edmondson of Yakima, WA; 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Larry Gene Boyer, 62, died Jan. 4, 2006, in his home, Hutchinson.
He was born April 19, 1943, in Ponca City, the son of Leroy and Wilma Williamson Boyer. His early days were spent
around Arkansas City. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1961.
On Aug. 28, 1963, he put on Christ in baptism. A single decision, which affected the rest of his life.
On Dec. 27, 1963, he married Floy Henderson. She survives. They shared their lives faithfully until death parted
them. They ministered side by side to several churches of Christ in the Kansas area. He also impacted numerous
young lives during his 17-year tenure at Hutchinson Community College, where he taught several classes and sponsored
Christian Fellowship.
Survivors include: four children, Deborah Boverie and husband Brian, Greeley, Colo., David Boyer and wife, Tonia,
Lubbock, Texas, Dana Boyer, Hutchinson, and Darren Boyer, Brighton, Colo.; five grandchildren, Caitlin, Colton
and Collin Boverie, Greeley, Colo., and Tyler and Brooklyn Boyer, Lubbock, Texas; mother-in-law, Wanda Henderson,
Arkansas City; six siblings, Pat Annis, Conley, Ga., Darrell Boyer, Ramona Burr, Terry Boyer and Wanda Ford, all
of Arkansas City, and Timothy Boyer, Oklahoma.

Wayland was born July 21, 1912 in Goldtree, OK. He married Leila L. Lewter in Missouri. Wayland owned and operated
Boyer Liquor Store in Arkansas City. He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, the American Legion and the
V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife, Leila Boyer of the home; step-son, Roland Keith Pittman of Port Gamble, WA; step-daughter,
Peggy Lee Frank of Oklahoma City, OK; six grandchildren, several great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wayland was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and sisters.

Mary Margaret Casement, 89, of Arkansas City, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at the William Newton Memorial Hospital of Winfield. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2004 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Pastor David Lemke will officiate.
Born February 2, 1915, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, Margaret was the seventh child of Holsie Homer and Liona Gay (Poteet) Shurtz. She grew up and attended school in the Dilworth Community. On February 24, 1934, Margaret married Tommy L. Casement and they made their home on a farm southeast of Arkansas City until they moved to Arkansas City in 1951.
Margaret was a homemaker and for two years operated a small café behind Casement Oil Co. She also worked at the Ark City memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department for nine years, retiring in 1977.
She was an avid bridge player and was a member of the Friday Afternoon Bridge
Club and the V.FW. Women's Auxiliary. Her greatest Treasures were her grandchildren, family, and friends.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Liona Barbour of Geuda Springs; foster son, Jim Coulter of Black Canyon City,
AZ.; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969; daughter Betty Gurnee in 1996; great granddaughter, Dalana Barbour; three brothers, Aubrey, Lyle, and Eddie Shurtz; five sisters, Vanda Lea Vaughn, Arletha Stuard, Caddis Metz, Lela Hayden, and Betty Comfort; and her son in-law, Ray Barbour.
A memorial has been established with the Geuda Springs Community Church and the Geuda Springs Community Building Fund and contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Mary Lou Caster, 79, of Wellington, Kansas, retired farmer, died early Saturday
morning, February 24, 2007 at her home in Wellington.
She was born the daughter of Paul Posey and Eva Mae (Brown) Posey on February 12, 1928 in Peck, Kansas.
On September 11, 1948 she and Ralph Eugene Caster were united in marriage in Wichita, Kansas. Ralph died on January
11, 1981.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her five daughters, Kathy Goentzel and her husband Richard of Wellington, Kansas, Janis Williams
and her husband Steve of Caldwell, Kansas, Peggy Ryan and her husband Larry of Wichita, Kansas, Connie Wyckoff
and her husband Gale of Caldwell, Kansas and Lorene Chadwell and her husband Matt of Salida, Colorado; thirteen

Esther Marie Christy, 85, Arkansas City died Monday, July 31, 2006, at the South
Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City. Memorial services are scheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday,
Aug. 10, 2006, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Arkansas City. Pastor Mark Boxman will officiate. Cremation has
been effected.
Esther was born April 17, 1921, in Arkansas City, to Orin Vernon and Edith Annie (Derr) Christy. She was placed
at Winfield State Hospital when she was 12 years old. Since then, she lived at two private facilities in Topeka,
KS and at New Horizons of Valley Center. She then moved to a nursing home in Douglass operated by Medicalodge.
Esther moved in October 1989, to Focus ICFMR in Winfield. She was transferred to Cowley County Developmental Services
(Twin Rivers Developmental Supports) in April 1990.
Survivors include one sister, Betty Morgan of Wichita.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill, Bobby and Clarence; sisters, Wanda, Florence, Phyllis
and Lila.

Howard L. Clark Jr., 51, of Sapulpa, Okla., and formerly of Winfield, Kan., passed
away Thursday morning, May 18, 2006 at his father's home in Sapulpa. Born on April 5, 1955 in Winfield, he was
the son of Howard L. and Opal V. (Kelso) Clark Sr. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. He was
employed for Bob Sherrard Construction and Jim Phillips Body Shop for several years. He was united in marriage
to Joanie Medford in Wichita, Kan. The couple later divorced. He later moved to Alabama where he lived for 15 years
before moving to Sapulpa to be near family. He had resided there since 1997.
His family includes: daughter Jennifer Clark of Nebraska; mother Opal V. Clark of Hanceville, Ala.; father Howard
L. Clark, Sr. of Sapulpa, Okla.; and best friends Charles Irvin of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Linda Kerr of Winfield,
Kan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ron, and his sister, Bobbie Ann Clark. Funeral Services will be held
at 1 p.m. Monday, May 22 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery,
north of Arkansas City. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 21.

L. Dale Cook, 77, of Winfield, died Oct. 2, 2005, at his home.

Dale was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Cherokee, Okla., to Doretha (Schwanz) and Albert “A.D.” Cook. He was raised and
educated in Oklahoma, graduating from Burlington High School in 1945.
He entered the U.S. Army and served with the combat engineers. After his service, he worked as a mechanic at Drennan
Motors in Winfield. He started working for the U.S. Postal Service in Winfield and later transferred to the regional
sorting facility in west Wichita. He retired from the post office at the age of 60.
He and Marcella Brown married and had a daughter, Jennifer Pearl (Cook) Erickson. They later divorced.
In 1983, Dale married Rose Zimmerman in Oxford.
Dale had many interests including trapshooting. He attended the Grand National Meet in Vandalia, Ohio, many times,
as well as other meets all over the Midwest. His interests in shooting led him to be the manager of the Wichita
Gun Club.
He also was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, riding his cycles all over the Midwest. As a Christian, he soon found
an unserved niche in Christian service and became a minister to motorcycle enthusiasts. He was a satellite evangelist
with the Heart of God Church in Buckner, Mo. He and his wife, Rose, attended many motorcycle events all over the
Midwest.
Later, he became a licensed lay speaker with the Kansas West Conference of the United Methodist Church, serving
as its chaplain to the motorcycle ministry. He was also Kansas District 8 ABATE chaplain. He was the 2005 chairperson
of the Cowley County Toy Motorcycle Run, which is held the second Saturday in November.
He was also chaplain for the Vietnam Wall ceremonies and was made an honorary Vietnam veteran by the Vietnam veterans’
group in Wichita.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Lions Club, the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist
Men.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Cook, Winfield; two daughters, Jennifer Pearl Erickson, Wichita, and Mary Lowe,
Silsbee, Texas; a son, Wesley Reeves, Arkansas City; two brothers, Elmer Cook and Richard Cook, both of Longton;
and two sisters, Clair Lacey, Udall, and Glenda Jolley, Denver. He also had a large extended family of accumulated
children including Mark Bartlett, Arkansas City; Debbie Cody, Augusta; Diana K. Wilson, Winfield; Dave and Wanda
Wells, Kechi; 35 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Cova Christine Cox, 94, Arkansas City, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. Cova was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Cedar Vale, to Albert Prince and Orlena May (Bagwell)
Short. She was reared and educated in Arkansas City. On Dec. 24, 1928, she married Edgar H. Cox in Arkansas City.
The couple made their home in Arkansas City. She was a homemaker. Cova was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian
Church, and the "Cox Circle". She was also past president of the Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 Veterans of
Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include three sons, Richard, of Burlington, Iowa, Edwin and Michael, both
of Arkansas City; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband,
Edgar in 1984; a son, Don; and a grandson, Todd.

Eva Marie Decker, 101, lifelong Arkansas City resident, died Friday, Oct. 31,
2003, at the Presbyterian Manor of Arkansas City. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003,
at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home with the Reverend Lance Carrithers officiating. A private inurnment will be held
at a later time in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Cremation has been affected.
Born August 17, 1902, in Arkansas City, Eva was the daughter of Maurice G. and Ruth Ann (Simpson) Kantzer. She
was reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1919. Eva taught school
in a one room school house, east of Arkansas City, for one year. On April 17, 1921, Eva married Charles Harold
Decker at Arkansas City where the couple made their home. They had two children, Robert and Joan. Their home was
always a favorite gathering spot for family and friends. Eva began attending the Methodist Church in Arkansas City
when she was six years of age and continued serving the church in various capacities including Sunday School teacher,
active circle member, and helping to prepare and serve food for various church activities. After leaving the family
home in 1990, Eva lived on Parman Lane before moving to the Presbyterian Manor where she has lived for the past
five years.
Eva is survived by her son, Robert Decker and his wife, Darleen of Manitou Springs, Colo., one sister, Geraldine
Musson of Arkansas City; one brother, Walter Kantzer of Stanwood, Wash., six grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren,
seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Harold; her daughter Joan Reiss; her sister, Ethel
Ibach; and her brother, Maurice (Dick) Kantzer.

Catholic Church.

Dye, A.H. "Shorty," 72, retired farmer and oil field worker, died Friday,
Jan. 30, 1998. Service 2 p.m. Monday, Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Survivors: wife, Bonnie; daughters, Karen Dye of Sterling, Lara Dye of Stillwater, Okla.; brother, Jack of Ponca
City, Okla.; sisters, Clara Melber of Ponca City, Bonnie Boltz of California, Fern Lively of Blackwell, Okla. Memorial

Caroline C. Elam, 65, of Winfield, died Oct. 31, 2002, at her home.
Cremation has been effected. Following Elams wishes, there will be no service. Miles Funeral Service is in charge
of arrangements.
Elam was born Aug. 8, 1937, in West Riverside, Calif., to Sylvia Marie (Nichols) and Chas C. Bracey. She was raised
and educated in Riverside and Old Town San Diego, Calif.
On Dec. 22, 1982, she married Abe Elam. They made their home in Winfield where she worked as a custodian for USD
465. The couple moved to Bakersfield, Calif., but returned to Winfield in 1993. Elam also worked a number of years
as a housekeeper at Good Samaritan Village.
Survivors include her husband, Abe Elam, Winfield; two sons, David Clayton, Wichita, and Mike Elam, Las Vegas;
five daughters, Kathy Wallace, Bentonville, Ark., Patty Martin, Winfield, Terry Westfell, Florida, Kathy Miller,
Burden, and Linda Platz, San Antonio, Texas; her father and stepmother, Chas and Esther Bracey, Chula Vista, Calif.;
13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Sophia "Sophie" Emo, 80, of Arkansas City died Wednesday, August 13,
2003 at the Presbyterian Manor of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August
16, 2003 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Boxman officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial
Lawn Cemetery.
Born August 18, 1922 at Cushing, Oklahoma Sophie was the daughter of Robert H. and Mattie (Hall) Jones. She was
reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1940. On May 20, 1940 Sophie
married George F. Emo, Jr. in Medford, Oklahoma. The couple immediately made their home in Arkansas City. Sophie
worked for Dick Cook as a legal secretary until her retirement in June of 1985.
She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, holding all local offices, including president
during 1980-1981; she held numerous offices in the district and was a chairperson at the state level during the
bicentennial year. Sophie was also a member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary, she served on the board of directors
for the campfire girls, and was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Sophie started Operation Pencil
Box and received many honors for her dedication and hard work of helping those in need.
Sophie is survived by her son, George M. Emo of Oklahoma City, OK; three daughters, Patricia A. Emo of Arkansas
City, Janice T. Emo of Ponca City, and Pamela L. Rickords of Ardmore, OK; 13 grandchildren, Mike, Bo, Jim, Sandy,
Shannon, Gayla, Sherry, Lynne, Teresa, Kim, Pam, Leann, and Bobby; 27 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Emo, Jr.; four brothers; one sister; and one grandchild.
A memorial has been established with the Redeemer Lutheran Church and contributions may be made through the funeral
home.
Paul Kenneth Endorf, 80, of Arkansas City died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the
Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit in Arkansas City.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2005 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas
City. The Reverend Buddy Cook will officiate. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Paul was born February 12, 1925 to William Arthur Endorf and Daisy Elizabeth (Wallace) Endorf in Langdon, MO. The
family moved to Arkansas City in 1929, where Paul received his education.
He served in the United States Navy, from 1944 to 1946. On October 15, 1950 he married Wanda L. Christy in Eureka
Springs, AR and the couple made their home in Arkansas City.
Paul worked at ADM from 1946 to 1993 in Arkansas City as a mill operator. He was a member of the Church of the
Nazarene in Arkansas City, the V.F.W. and the Ark City Horseshoe Club.
Paul is survived by his two sons, Bruce Endorf and his wife, Delaine, and Ed Endorf all of Arkansas City; sister,
Verl Conroy of Arkansas City; grandchildren, Amy Grose and her husband, Bret of Arkansas City, Shelena Endorf of
Moore, OK, Brandy Wynn of Arkansas City, Valene Sexton of Kirksville, MO; step grandchildren, Colby Wilson, of
Arkansas City, Blaine Knaus and Caleb of Lenexa, KS, Adrianne Wilson of Harpersferry, WV, Bodie Wilson and his
wife, Danni of Anna, TX; great grandchildren, Braylee Wynn, Lindsay Grose, Bret Grose, Jr., Dallas Wynn, Isaac
Sexton, Kyce Morgan and Kale Morgan; step great grandchildren, Brendan Johnson and Breonna Tharp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; three brothers, William Endorf, Donald Endorf, Oakley Endorf and
daughter in law, Rhonda Endorf.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society or Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made
through the funeral home.
Alberta H. Estes, 82, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, September 9, 2004 at the
Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00a.m. Monday, September
13, 2004 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Born March 5, 1922 in Shell Knob, Missouri, Alberta was the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Smith) Crist. She attended
schools in Appleton City, Missouri. On January 18, 1945, Alberta married John Estes in Arkansas City where the
couple immediately made their home.
Alberta worked at Rodeo Meats, Acton's, Shutler's South Grocery, and finally at Gross' IGA as a meat wrapper for
seventeen years. She was an avid bowler for over twenty years. Alberta attended the New Hope Assembly Church of
Arkansas City.
Alberta is survived by four sons, Clark Estes and his wife, Grace of Yukon, OK., Jerry Estes and his wife, Bonnie
of Okemah, OK., Charles Estes and his wife, Joan of Oglethorpe, GA., and Eldon Estes of Hutchinson; one daughter,
Velta Gilmore and her husband, Bob of Arkansas City; two sisters, Jewell Ratliff and Fern Mefford and her husband,
Harvey all of Arkansas City; twelve grandchildren, Chris Estes, Christina Estes, Kim Marr, Lance Catron, and Casey
Catron all of Arkansas City, Shane Estes of Jacksonville, FL., Kathi Grosenberger of Bern, KS., Chad Estes of Hutchinson,
Joe Estes of Adair, OK., Gina Estes of Kansas City, MO., Jeri Lynn of Ponca City, OK., Oahn Estes of Virginia Beach,
VA.; fifteen great grandchildren; and one niece, Terri Clunn of Sapulpa, OK.; and a nephew, Alan Sharp of Arkansas
City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sons, Roger and Roy Estes.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. Contributions
