Virginia L. Ferguson, 87, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother
was joyfully welcomed home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday (October 16, 2005) in Henderson, Kentucky.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday (October 19, 2005) at the First Baptist Church of Arkansas
City. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery of Arkansas City. Dr. Rick Nelson and Pastor Mike Ronan
will officiate.
Virginia, who was loved by everyone that knew her for her happy and encouraging spirit, was born April 20, 1918
in Edmond, Oklahoma to Howard and Jessie (Hardin) Tennant. She was reared and educated in Pond Creek, Oklahoma.
She married Raymond Ferguson on August 28, 1938. The couple farmed in the Sumner and Cowley County areas for many
years and were known for their helping, hardworking neighborly spirit. She was a member of the First Baptist Church
of Arkansas City, but made many friends in Henderson, Kentucky, after moving there in 2004 to be near her daughter
Kathy Tidd. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Henderson.
Survivors include two daughters Connie Welch of Wichita, Kathy and her husband Charles Tidd of Henderson, Kentucky;
a brother Forrest Tennant; two sisters Marquerite Sharp, Bettie Tennant; grandchildren and their spouses Larene
Welch, Steven and Ellen Welch, Peter and Melissa Roseberry, Tamara and Frank Baird, Traci and Eric Cotter and great-grandchildren
Erin Welch, and Emma Roseberry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, a daughter Sharon Roseberry, grandson Jeff Roseberry,
brothers Vernon and Eldon Tennant.

Ella M. Ferris, 89, Arkansas City, died Sunday(February 16, 2003) at the Presbyterian

Born January 16, 1914 at Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada, Ella was the daughter of Glenn G. and Lazzetta (O'Neil)
Carter.
Ella grew up and attended schools in Arkansas City and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1932. She married
Sherwood Ferris on May 8, 1937 at Arkansas City. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church of Arkansas City.
She was a girl scout leader for 25 years and volunteered for the American Red Cross for 28 years. Ella was a homemaker.
Ella is survived by her son, Sherwood Ferris of Arkansas City; her daughter, Cheryl Davis of Phoenix, AZ; her sister
Bonnie Cashion of Rollinsville, CO; four grandchildren, Kristie Ferris, Russell Ferris, Dawn Davis, and Eric Davis;
and two great grandchildren, John Fisher and Sarah Shutterfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Memorials have been established with the Presbyterian Manor and the American Red Cross. Contributions may be made

Jessie M. Fink, 81, Kansas City, MO, died February 15, 2005, at St. Joseph's South Hospital. She was born May 7, 1923, in Winfield, KS, to George R. and Mary E. (Muir) Wilvers.
She graduated from Winfield High School in 1940, and in 1944, earned degrees as a Registered Nurse and Bachelor of Science from William Newton Nursing School and Southwestern College. She married Howard Fink, also of Winfield, on March 17, 1946. He preceded her in death February 23, 1974. In the late 1970's, Jessie co-sponsored the Vietnamese family of Nghiem and Van Dang, now of California, and their sons Mark and Steve and daughter Titi. Howard and Jessie and their three daughters settled on West 70th Terrace in 1963. Howard took a residency in pathology, Jessie returned to nursing part time, and their daughters attended Southwest High School. Janet subsequently became a technical writer, Susan an attorney, and Pamela an immunologist. Jessie retired in 1984, and moved with her mother to Kingswood Senior Living Community in 1994. Although losing her mother in 1999, Jessie kept her good spirits till the end and was a devoted patron of many Kansas City fine arts organizations.
In addition to her Vietnamese family and her daughters Janet, Boston, MA, and
Susan and Pamela, Seattle, WA, Jessie is survived by Pamela's husband Michael Bevan and their two sons, Thomas

Edwin "Red" Charles Flower, 89, Winfield, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006,
at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at Miles Funeral
Service in Winfield. Military committal honors and Masonic rites will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, north of
Arkansas City. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. today.
Born Oct. 16, 1917, near Udall, he was the son of Charles and Rosetta (Meyers) Flower. As a master plumber, he
and his wife owned and operated Flower Plumbing and Heating and he was later employed by the Central of Burden
School District as a maintenance man and worked at Law & Sons Plumbing & Heating.
Survivors include his wife, Alice E. (Workman) Flower, of the home; daughters, Linda Kay Huff and Cheri Lyn Wogoman,
Winfield; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by his parents; a granddaughter; and brothers, Richard, Keith and Bill.
Memorials have been established for the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City and the American Cancer Research Foundation.

Robert C. "Bob" Foust, 78 of Arkansas City died Wednesday, March 8,
2006 at his residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas

Bob was born March 11, 1927 to Norvel Foust and Prem Rose (White) Foust in Wagoner, OK. He served in the United
States Army.
Bob married Vera J. Barclay on August 10, 1947 in Arkansas City. The couple lived in Clever, MO and Aurora, MO
and Arkansas City. He was a jet engine tester at General Electric Engine Services for 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Vera J. Foust of the home; son, Clifford L. Foust and his wife, Vicki; daughter, Barbara
J. Smith and her husband, William all of Arkansas City, seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Foust; sisters, Zelma Seal and Vinna Foust and brother, Carl
D. Foust.

Lawrence W. Gann, 95, Parsons, a former resident of Arkansas City, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor, where he had resided since December, 2001. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the Memorial Cemetery Chapel with Rev. James "Babe" Standerfer officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Born Oct. 20, 1908, in Dallas County, Mo., he was the son of Thomas J. and Laura E. (Adams) Gann. In 1923, he moved with his parents to Arkansas City, where he resided until 1998, when due to his illness, he and his wife moved to Parsons to be near a daughter, Joyce Rhodes and her husband, Bob. He attended the Arkansas City schools and later worked for the Henry Candy Factory, the Kantzer Planing Mill and in 1934, the Kanotex Refinery, which later became the APCO and then Total Refinery Companies. In 1936, he became a welder and kept that position until he retired in 1971. He was a member of the International Union of Engineers. On May 31, 1930, he married Laura F. Lewis at the Central Christian Church parsonage with Rev. C.W. Walker officiating. They would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in a few weeks. Lawrence worshipped with his family at the First Church of God starting in 1937. Upon its closing, he and Laura attended the Trinity Baptist Church located in the same building. He was active in both churches as a singer and a variety of other responsibilities, one of which was a Boy Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife, Laura F. Gann of the home; one son, Kenneth Gann and
his wife Shirley of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Carolyn Stacy and her husband, Bud of Atlanta, Ga.; twin daughters,
Janyce Chaney and her husband, Joe of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Joyce Rhodes and her husband, Bob of Parsons;
nine grandchildren, Mark Gann and wife, Nancy, Michael Gann and wife, Judy, Angie Gann Hardee and husband, Scott,
Gregg Stacy and wife, Davida, Chris Stacy and wife, Lori, Clayton Chaney, JoAnn Chaney Borys and husband, Greg,
Traci Rhodes and Matt Rhodes and his wife, Sheila; 15 great-grandchildren; and two nieces. He was preceded in death

Born Jan. 25, 1913, in rural Tisdale, he was the son of William A. and Veva (Peninger) Garber. He worked for Beech
Aircraft in Wichita and later in Salina until retirement.

of Winfield; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother,

Clarice was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Newkirk, Okla., to William Henry and Bessie
(Reid) Terry. She was reared and educated in Newkirk graduating from high school there. She later attended the
University of Oklahoma on a music scholarship. She also attended Pacific Bible College. She married R.A. Gaudino
on April 15, 1939, at Long Beach, Calif. The couple lived there until they moved to Arkansas City in 1982. Clarice
was a homemaker, attended the First Baptist Church, and was a member of the Ark City Music and Drama Club. Survivors
include two sons, Don, and his wife, Faith, of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Rick, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two daughters,
Gayle Knight, and her husband, Bill, of Seal Beach, Calif., and Lyn Meyer, and her husband, Jeff, of Arkansas City;
two sisters, Marjorie Hodkin, of Arkansas City, and Jean Orr, and her husband, Ray, of Colorado Springs, Colo.;
seven grandchildren, Cheri Knight Thummel, Wendi Knight Avanzino, Paul Gaudino, Shae Gaudino Tarka, Stephen Meyer,
Melissa Gaudino Bray, Sara Gaudino Kallenbach; six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She

Delores "De" K. Glaze, 61, of Arkansas City, went to Glory on Monday (August 20, 2007) from the Medicalodge North Post Acute Care Center of Arkansas City after a long, courageous battle with ALS. Celebration of Life services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday (August 24, 2007) at the First Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
De was born November 22, 1945 in Hurley, South Dakota to Russell and Clara (VanHove) Hansen. She was reared and
educated in Parker, South Dakota. She graduated from Parker High School in 1963. She later graduated from Sterling
College and then Kansas University Medical School in Kansas City. De married Joe Glaze on July 2, 1966, in Kansas
City, Missouri. The couple lived in Mt. Vernon, Ohio for several years, and then returned to Kansas. They lived
in Pratt where Delores worked for the Pratt Regional Medical Center for 16 years, and the Hutchinson Hospital for
six years. The couple moved to Arkansas City in 1996. De worked for South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center
for six years before ALS forced her to quit.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and the American Nurse's Association.
Survivors include her husband Joe of the home; a son Todd and his wife Ruby of Wichita; a daughter Doreen and her
husband Dan Huntley of Arkansas City; brother Dale Hansen of Tea, South Dakota; two sisters June Begeman of Kerrville,
Texas, Donna Pascoe of Devon, Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death her parents, and a brother Ronald.

Delores Glaze, who was thought to have Lou Gehrig's Disease and resumed talking after a silence of nearly two years,
has died, a nurse confirmed Thursday. She was 61.
Glaze was considered the second such surprise recovery at Medicalodge North Post-Acute Care Center in south-central
Kansas.
Glaze died Monday at the medical facility from the normal progression of the disease, said Georgi Hollins, director
of nursing.
Glaze had surprised Medicalodge staff, family and friends last Halloween when she began to speak in complete sentences,
thanking a nurse for a bath.
After Glaze spoke last year, her physician, David Schmeidler, noted that the diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's Disease
was a working diagnosis from the neurologist. He said the diagnosis "was never definitely made with De."
Floyd W. Gearhardt, 86, Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today.
Floyd was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Shawnee, Okla., the son of William F. and Era Bell Fults Gearhardt. He married Bertie Lee Neal on March 15, 1943, in Shawnee, Okla. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1941 until October 1945, being stationed in Alaska, France, Germany, Belgium and Czechoslovakia. Shortly after being discharged from the service, the family moved to Durango, Colo., where they lived until moving to Arkansas City in 1951. He had worked at the Beard Foundry and New Era Mill. He retired from the City of Arkansas City as the Waste Water Treatment officer after 20 years. He was a member of the Spencer Ralston V.F.W. Post No. 1254 and Shelton Beaty American Legion Post No. 18.
Survivors include one son, John A. Gearhardt and his wife, Janet of Arkansas City;
two daughters, Reginna Strobel and her husband, Stephen, Arkansas City, and Rebecca Neal and her husband, Dwayne,
Arkansas City; five grandchildren, Dusty Neal, Arkansas City, Carrie Clouston, of Arkansas City, Jason Gearhardt,
Haysville, Jevon Gearhardt, Wichita, and Alicia Day, Winfield; and seven great-grandchildren, David Gearhardt,
Angela Gearhardt, Dakota Gearhardt, Dawson Gearhardt, Bryce Rains, Carlee Miller and Lena Clouston. He was preceded
in death by his parents; his wife on June 25, 1995; four brothers, Herb, Dee, Harold and Paul; and one sister,
Ruth Dupree.

Mary was born September 19, 1915, in Silverdale to Charles and Grace (Breneman) Mann. She was reared and educated
in Silverdale, Eureka and Arkansas City. She married Harold L. Gilmore on May 26, 1933, in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The
couple made their home in Silverdale and later moved to Arkansas City in 1941. Mary worked as a store clerk for
Woolworth's, Shutler's, and Dillon's. She retired in 1979 after 16 years will Dillon's. She was a longtime member
of the Friends Church, the Spencer-Ralston Post #1254 VFW and the AARP.
Survivors include two sons Kenneth and his wife Bonnie, Larry and his wife Sharon; of Arkansas City; two daughters
Virginia and her husband Dwaine Schimmel of Arkansas City, Joan and her husband Anthony Andrunas of Sun City West,
Arizona; a sister June Miller of Winfield; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter Patty Andrunas, two brothers Grover and an infant; seven sisters Viola Ashford, Lenora Brown, Goldena Feasel, Ernestine Conner, Nellie Wahlenmaier, Doris Ausmus and Hattie Roberts.

Clara Marie Harader, 93 of Arkansas City died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the
Life Care Center in Wichita.

Clara was born May 26, 1914 to James Everett Weddle and Sally Miller "Lera" (Sutherland) Weddle in Cisco,
IL. She graduated from Newkirk High School in 1932.
On December 25, 1933 she married Albert Richard "Dick" Harader. The couple made their home farming in
the Cowley County area. Clara was a bookkeeper and member of the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City. She
was also the receptionist at the senior center for the past 13 years.
Clara is survived by her son, Wayne Harader of Forney, TX; daughter, Patricia Walton her husband, Charles of Highland,
UT; five granddaughters, Pam Lane and Dana Harader of Terrell, TX, Dawn Harris of Wichita, Jill Dortch of Columbia,
SC and Wendy North of West Jordan, UT; seven great granddaughters and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Max E. Weddle.

Funeral services for Ardell "Art" L. Hartwich, 63, Arkansas City, were
conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Gale Rider of Mount Zion
Community Church and Walt Bisbee officiated. Interment was in the Cowley County Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Special
music was by Stephen Butler. Casket bearers were Herbert Hartwich, Bob Thompson, David Smith, Grady O'Mary, Bruce
Hollis and Bill Lundell. Honorary casket bearers were Larry Robertson, Bucky Fowler, Gary Butler, Jim Anderson,
Scott Fowler and Sam Crowl.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

HEDRICK —James Leonard Hight, 90, formerly of Hedrick Housing, died at 6:30 a.m.
August 12, 2006, at Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa.
He was born April 4, 1916 in Arkansas City, Kansas to Lawrence and Lillian Belle Hamm Hight. He was a graduate
of Iowa Wesleyan College and received a Masters degree from the University of Iowa. He served as superintendent
of schools at Little Rock and Grand River Community Schools. He was a member of Hedrick Martinsburg United Methodist
Church.
Surviving are a brother, Charles (Delcie) Hight of Denver, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred and Belva Covey and an infant sister, Vera Hight.
His body has been cremated.
No local services are planned.
Inurnment will be in Arkansas City, Kansas.
Memorial has been established to Hedrick Martinsburg United Methodist Church.

ARKANSAS CITY Evelyn L. Houdek, 93, of Arkansas City, died Nov. 25, 2004, at South
Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery Chapel.
A memorial has been established with the Arkansas City Music and Drama Club Scholarship Fund. Contributions may
be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Houdek was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Lyons, to Delores (Sullenger) and Jack Ray. She was raised and educated in several
places where her fathers work took the family, including Cedar Vale, Cherryvale, Winfield, Arkansas City and Independence,
Blackwell, Okla., and Newkirk, Okla., where she graduated from high school.
She met Glenn Houdek while attending Newkirk High School where they played violin in the orchestra and performed
solos and duets. They married Nov. 30, 1928, at the Christian Church in Wellington. They made their home in Winfield
before settling in Arkansas City in 1940.
She was a member of the Arkansas City Music and Drama Club.
Her husband died in 1997. Two sons, Duane Glenn Houdek and Dick Houdek, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Ronnie Houdek, Midland, Texas; two brothers, Howard Ray, Wichita, and John Ray, Arkansas
City; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Imogene Marie Hower, 87, Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at the Presbyterian
Manor Health Care Unit in Arkansas City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at the
Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. The Rev. Ted Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in the Memorial
Lawn Cemetery. Imogene was born Nov. 4, 1918, to Richard Lee Ferguson and Annie Belle (Ellis) Ferguson in Hindsville,
Ark. She attended Hartwell, Ark., schools. On Nov. 20, 1935, she married Ernest M. Hower in Arkansas City where
the couple made their home. She was a homemaker. Imogene worked briefly at JC Penney. She was a member of the Hackney
Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Kenneth M. Hower and his wife, Carolea; daughter, Beverly K. Grant and
her husband, Jack; sister, Delores Anderson, all of Arkansas City; four grandchildren, Rene Ettinger, Jeanenne
Stockton, Kendall Rich and Kevin Hower; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents;
husband; and sister, Myrl Gillespie.
Memorials have been established with the Hackney Baptist Church of the American Diabetes Association. Contributions

Marceil Johnson, 83, longtime resident of Burden, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004,
at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Miles

Born Nov. 23, 1920, in Burden, she was the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Sheets) Bolack. She was employed by Barbour
Collinson Abstract Company, before retiring due to health concerns.
Survivors include her son, Lewis "Bud" Johnson of Midland, Texas; daughter, Pat Boyer of Iola; three
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland S. Johnson; her parents;
and her brother, Thomas F. Bolack.
A memorial has been established for the Burden United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral
