TAYLOR, MARY ELLEN

A double funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Broadway Mortuary for a mother and her son who were killed in the tornado at Udall, Kan., Wednesday night.

They were Mrs. Mary Ellen Taylor, 62, telephone operator at Udall, who was killed at her post, and James Edward Taylor, 39.

Mrs. Taylor was born Oct. 25, 1892, at Udall and had lived in the community all her life. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by her husband, Fred, of Udall; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy M. Heath of 1834 E. Washington, Wichita, Mrs. Opal Dowler of 842 S. Poplar, Wichita, and Mrs. Ida Gail Smith of Amarillo, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Hufford of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Mrs. Maude Cone of Wellington, Kan., and seven grandchildren.

Her son is survived by his father, two sisters, Mrs. Heath and Mrs. Smith and three nieces and nephews.

He was born April 25, 1916, at Caldwell, Kan., but he had lived most of his life in Udall and the Wichita area. He spent five years in the Canadian Army during World War II. STOREY, HENRY

Storey Funeral At Mulvane Sunday

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Storey of Udall will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mulvane Methodist Church. Burial will be in Littleton Cemetery with the Hooten Mortuary in charge.

Mr. and Mrs. Storey both were killed in the tornado. Mr. Storey’s body was found in a field south of the Storey place, and the children of the couple found their mother’s body at the Morris Funeral home.

The couple had lived in Udall for years. They moved into Udall around eight years ago, but Mr. Storey still had farmed his place. Mrs. Storey had been Udall correspondent for the Winfield Courier for many years.

Surviving are the following children: George Storey of Winfield; Mrs. Karerine Martin of Bishop, Texas; Kenneth Storey of McAllister, Texas; Francis Storey of Udall; Carl Storey of Mulvane and Mrs. Pauline Minson of Mulvane. SIMONS, MARY ELLEN

Simons Funeral At Arkansas City

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Simons, a victim of the Udall tornado and widow of Dr. D.P. Simons of Udall, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal church in Arkansas City. Officiating at the services will be Judge Doyle White, and the Rev. Wayne Karlosoke of Wichita, formerly of Udall. Interment will be in Udall cemetery.

Mrs. Simons had lived in Udall around 30 years. Her late husband died 15 years ago last March. One daughter, Mrs. C. F. Bellis of Arkansas City, and other relatives survive.

COSTLOW, CLARA

Mother, Son Will Be Buried Saturday

Mulvane – (Special) Double funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mulvane Methodist Church for Mrs. Clara Marie Costlow, 19, and her 19 month old son, Robert Leroy Costlow, victims of the tornado which struck Udall Wednesday night. Mrs. Costlow was killed during the tornado and her son died Thursday in Wesley Hospital in Wichita. The Rev. D.N. McAllister, pastor of the Mulvane Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mulvane Cemetery.

Mrs. Costlow was born May 31, 1935, at Columbus, Kan. She was a member of Nazarene Church of Baxter Springs, Kan.

In addition to her husband, Jimmie C., she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Richey: one sister, Ruth Richey, and two brothers, Glenn Dale and Melvin, all of Baxter Springs.

Mother, Son Will Be Buried Saturday

Double Services For Storm Victims

Wichita (Special) – Two victims of the Udall tornado will be buried in Wichita Saturday.

Double funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Loran M. Nash, whose bodies were found in the wreckage of their home in Udall, will be held at First Southern Baptist Church at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Wichita Park Cemetery.

The couple had owned and operated the only grocery store at Udall for the past four years.

Mr. Nash, 53, was born Oct. 19, 1901, at Dennison, Tex. Mrs. Nash, 52, was born Oct. 11, 1902, at Meade, Kan.

Mr. Nash was formerly employed in Wichita by Boeing Airplane Co. and Coleman Co. Inc.

Both are former residents of Wichita. They came here from Forgan, Okla., in 1927. They were married April 5, 1920, at Forgan, and moved to Udall in 1950.

Survivors of the couple include one daughter, Mrs. Frances B. Parrish, 2614 S. Santa Fe, two sons, Warren M., 1602 Millwood, and Donald R., 709 Ellis, and five grandchildren.

Survivors of Mr. Nash include two sisters, Mrs. Zelma Lebo, Loveland, Colo, and Mrs. Myrtle Ruth, Planadu, Calif., and one brother, Stirl of Forgan, Okla.

Mrs. Nash is survived by one sister, Mrs. Bertha Jones, 515 N. Topeka, and four brothers, Emerson F. Monroe, Alhambra, Calif., Ted R. Portis, Kan., Winston C., Conway Springs, Kan., and John H., 401 University.

Wichita (Special) – Two victims of the Udall tornado will be buried in Wichita Saturday.

HARVEY, ANNA

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Rudolphina Harvey, 59, who was killed in the Udall tornado, will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. in First Baptist church at Mulvane. Two of her daughters reside in Wichita.

The Rev. W.F. McKean, pastor of Mulvane First Baptist church will officiate. Burial will be in Mulvane cemetery. Mulvane Mortuary is in charge.

Born Jan. 11, 1896, at Withee, Wis., Mrs. Harvey moved from Wichita to Udall five years ago.

Her husband Elbert B. was injured in the tornado and is in a Winfield hospital. The couple was married April 14, 1915 in Guymon, Okla.

Mrs. Harvey was a member of the Baptist church in Hennessey, Okla., and of the Royal Neighbors .

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Harold C. Dayhuff, Mrs. Byron H. Boydson, of Wichita, Mrs. Joe S. Matrinez, Udall, and Mrs. Harold P. Gilbert, Solomon, one brother, Lewis Schwenke, Guymon; and six grandchildren. (Winfield Daily Courier, May 28, 1955, submitted by Judy Mayfield)

Williams Rites Set for Derby

Graveside services for Miss Gertie Stella Williams, 75, who died in the Udall disaster, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Derby cemetery with the Rev. Wayne H. Hull, pastor of Cheney Methodist church officiating. Mulvane Mortuary is in charge.

Miss Williams, who had been in ill health for 35 years had been residing in a rest home at Udall the past two years. She was born Jan. 19, 1880, at Edinburg, Ill. She was a member of Mulvane Methodist church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Florence M. Potter, Cheney and Mrs. Grace Skourtis, San Francisco, Calif. (Winfield Daily Courier, May 28, 1955, submitted by Judy Mayfield)

STONE, MARY JANE BROWN

Stone Funeral Here on Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. H.T. (Dick) Stone, 60, of the Dale and Udall communities, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the First Christian church here. Interment will be in Akron cemetery with the Gordon Mortuary of Wichita officiating.

Mrs. Stone, the former Mary Jane Brown, was born in Plainfield, Ill., April 1, 1895 and came to the Dale community north of Winfield in 1904. She was a member of the Udall Congregational church.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Stone were victims of the Udall tornado. Mrs. Stone died about five minutes after reaching the storm cave after their home had been demolished. Mr. Stone is in a serious condition in Newton Memorial hospital.

Surviving are a son, Robert T. Stone of Yukon, Okla., and a daughter, Mrs. R.P. Roley of Winfield; a brother, R.J. Brown of Joliet, Ill., and Mrs. Viola Schmidt of Santa Barbara, Calif.; five grandchildren. (Winfield Daily Courier, May 28, 1955, submitted by Judy Mayfield)

RUDD, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin Rudd, 85, of Udall, a tornado victim, will be held Monday afternoon in the Udall cemetery. He was born at Carroll, Ark., the son of James Rudd and Sarah E. Rogers Rudd.

Children surviving are: Mrs. Marie Schneider, Anchorage, Alaska, Eugene Rudd and Mrs. Doris Sherrill of Wichita, Mrs. Florence Travis of San Diego, Calif., and a grandson reared in his home. Lt.
