History



Crawford County was organized in 1867

Named after S. J. Crawford, Governor of the State

First meeting of the commissioners was held March 16, 1867. The first order acted upon was naming the nine townships. The second order acted on was establishing election precincts. The third order was dividing the county into three commissioner's districts. The fourth directed the county clerk to give thirty days notice of a special election for county and township officers, and for the permanent location of the county seat.
