DAVIDSON, BRENDA LOU (LAWSON-PERRY)
ERIE -- Brenda L. Davidson, 52, of Erie died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27,
2008, at her home. She had been in failing health.
She was born on Aug. 5, 1956, at Parsons to Clifford Leon Lawson Jr. and LaDonna (Myers) Lawson Perry. Her parents
divorced and her father died May 4, 1963. In 1968, Brenda was adopted by her step-father, Cleal Eudale Perry. Her
adopted father and her mother preceded her in death. She grew up at Parsons and Cherokee and attended schools there.
She lived in Parsons, Galesburg and Walnut over the years before moving to Erie in 2002. She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, animals and country music. She attended First Baptist Church in Erie.
She married Paul Spencer on April 6, 1971 at Columbus, KS. They later divorced. She married Ralph Lee Barrows.
He died October 24, 1990. She married Robert Palmer and they divorced. She married Lyle Davidson on Feb. 3, 1995,
at rural Parsons. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include one son, Shawn Spencer and his husband, Jody of Mulberry; two daughters, Kelli Long and
Mistie Dawn Baker and her husband, Randy all of Erie; a step-son, Mark Davidson of Walnut; and nine grandchildren.
Besides being preceded in death by her parents and one husband. She was also preceded in death by a son, Eudale
Spencer, two daughters, Melissa Dawn Spencer and Tina Spencer.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Erie. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery
at Walnut. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Diana “Diney” (Bicknell) DeRuy 49, of Springfield, MO formally
of Pittsburg, KS died 9:17am August 9, 2008 at her home following a short illness.
Diney was born October 9, 1958 in Pittsburg, KS to Gene Bicknell and Marie (Eichhorn) Brinkman. She resided in
Pittsburg most of her life before moving to Springfield, MO in 2000. She was a graduate of Colgan High School in
1976. She attended and graduated from Pittsburg State University earning a Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences in
1980.
In April of 1976 she married David Moore in Miami, OK; they later divorced. In 1982 she married Kurt DeRuy in Pittsburg,
KS; they later divorced.
Diney worked as a published novelist and mother.
She enjoyed Jazzercising, seashell hunting, photography, bowling, golf, jogging, aerobics and was known as a Trekkie.
Survivors include her parents Marie Brinkman and Gene & Rita Bicknell; sons D.J. DeRuy of California, Kellen
DeRuy of Los Angeles, California and Jake DeRuy of Los Angeles, California; siblings Gena Gallagher and husband
Rick of Springfield, MO, Mitchell D. Bicknell and wife Diane of Pittsburg, KS, Michael Bicknell of Pittsburg, KS,
Martin C. Bicknell and wife Cherona of Bucyrus, KS; maternal grandmother Evelyn Eichhorn; 15 nieces and nephews
and 4 great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Roy and Ellen Bicknell, and maternal grandfather, Fritz Eichhorn.
Funeral Services will be 1pm Wednesday August 13, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Thomas
Stroot as celebrant. Burial will take place at a private date in Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Family

DIXON, PHYLLIS SUE (WILLIAMSON)
MINDENMINES, Mo. — Phyllis Sue Williamson Dixon age 62, resident of Mindenmines,
MO, went to be with her heavenly Father on September 3, 2009.
She was born April 20, 1947 in Longview, TX and attended Pine Tree High School.
Phyllis was a devoted mother and homemaker who enjoyed canning and various crafts. She had a variety of interests
including decorating. She was an active civic leader in her community, and was part owner of Dixon’s Mini Mart
and the D&M Quick Collect. She was also a caregiver to her Aunt Lupe for many years before her passing. She
will be deeply missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phil and Jewel Williamson.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Fred Dixon, four sons John Shoaff and wife Melissa; Torrey Shoaff of Memphis,
TN; Dustin Dixon of Mindenmines, MO, Doug Dixon and wife Patty; daughters Dianna Castro and husband Rod, Denise
Moe and husband Bill of California, 13 grandchildren and various cousins and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on September 12, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church
at Alfred and Clemons in Mulberry, KS. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be to the Regional Hospice. Memorials

PITTSBURG — Lisa Marie Harvey, 36 of Pittsburg died at 12:45 a.m. Friday December
24, 2010 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg following a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born February 3, 1974 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Raymond Eugene and Donna Sue (Fletcher) Bunney.
She was a lifetime resident of Pittsburg.
Lisa married Kevin Harvey on February 14, 1992 in Arma, KS; he survives at the home.
She was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle in Pittsburg.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter Sabrina Harvey and a son Kevin Harvey Jr. both of Pittsburg;
her mother and two brothers Raymond Bunney Jr. and Kenny Clark both of Pittsburg. She was preceded in death by
her father, maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts and an uncle.
According to her wishes Lisa has been taken for cremation. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday January 12,

John C. Myers, 69, 2701 Elm, Parsons, died at 10:25 a.m. today, Thursday, Aug.
23, 1990. He had been in poor health for the past six weeks.
He was born Nov. 2, 1920, at Cherryvale to Kerris John P. Myers and Ruth M. (Marlnee)
Myers. He was married to Helen B. Kautz on June 14, 1945, at Vallejo, Calif.
As a small child he moved with his family to Parsons from Cherryvale, then to
California in 1945, where the family lived in Vallejo and Fairfield. He moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., in 1961. In
1963, he moved to Pittsburg, Kan., where he owned and operated Johnny's DX Service until 1966. In 1966, he returned
to Parsons, where he was a machinist supervisor at the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad from 1966 to 1982, when he
retired.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home; one son, Randy of Parsons; two
daughters, Gloria Nevin and Debbie Panek, both of Parsons; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three brothers,
Robert, Dan, and Glen, all of Parsons; four sisters, Betty Wells of Parsons, Nancy Veach and Pat Sexton, both of
Erie, and LaDonna Perry of Pittsburg. His parents, two sisters, Peggy Cowen and Dorothy Richards and one granddaughter
preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Burris-Carson-Wall Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Clair Uitts presiding. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends
at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Parsons-LaDonna Sue Perry, 60, of Parsons, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at her
home. She had been in failing health for the past five years.
She was born Dec. 20, 1937, at Parsons, to Kerris John P. Myers and Ruth M. (Marlnee)
Myers. She grew up and attended schools in Parsons. She worked as a cook and waitress at numerous restaurants in
the area.
She married Clifford Leon Lawson Jr. They later divorced and he died May 4, 1963.
On Dec. 5, 1958, she married Cleal Eudale Perry at Miami, OK. He died Nov. 15, 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Lou (Lawson-Perry) Davidson of Galesburg;
three grandchildren, whom she reared, Shawn Michael Spencer of Pittsburg, Misty Dawn Spencer of Girard, and Kelli
Renee Long of Smackover, Ark.; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Kerris Glen Myers of Parsons; and three sisters,
Betty Wells, Nancy Veach, and Patricia Dent, all of Parsons.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Carsons-Wall Funeral Home at Parsons

MULBERRY — Martha M. Garrett, 79, of Mulberry died at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, January
4, 2011, at her home.
Mrs. Garrett was born September 13, 1931, at Daisy, Okla., the daughter of Alfred Lee and Eva Lora Reed Wheat.
Martha was a homemaker who lived in the Mulberry area most of her life. She was raised in Stringtown, Okla., and
attended Daisy Schools. She married Tom James Garrett on March 27, 1950, at Atoka, Okla. Mr. Garrett preceded her
in death January 10, 1993. Survivors include three daughters, Carreal Edens of Joplin, Mo., Judy Pitts of El Dorado
Springs, Ark., and Linda Kimbrough of Joplin; three sons, Steve Garrett of Mulberry, Daniel Garrett of Pittsburg,
and Tommy J. Garrett of the home; a stepson, Marvin Garrett of Claremore, Okla.; one brother, Dale Wheat of Kiowa,
Okla.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two
sons, Tommy Lee Garrett and Jesse Joe Garrett; a granddaughter, Dorrie Lucille Hilliard; a grandson, Richard Garrett;

PERRY, CLEAL EUDALE
Cleal Eudale Perry, 68, 1327 Main St., Parsons, Kan., died at 1:47 p.m. Monday,
Nov. 15, 1993. He had suffered an apparant heart attack at his home and was pronounced dead on arrival at the emergency
room of the Labette County Medical Center. He had been in ill health for 10 years.
He was born March 14, 1925, in Cherokee, Okla., to Roy Rolland Perry and Gladys
I. (Wilson) Perry. He was 1 year old when the family moved to Mulberry, Kans. The family later moved to Pittsburg,
Kans., where he attended school. Mr. Perry had lived most of his life in Pittsburg. He moved to Parsons in December
1992.
He married LaDonna Sue (Myers) Lawson on Dec. 5, 1958, at Miami, Okla. She survives
at the home.
Mr. Perry was employed in the construction industry, beginning as a carpenter.
He later was job superintendent and worked for the Deill Construction Co., in Pittsburg for 35 years.
He was a former member of the Carpenters Union. He was an avid golfer as long as his health permitted.
Other survivors include a daughter, Brenda Palmer of the home; two brothers,
Roy and Audra Perry both of Pittsburg; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Four brothers, Marion, Francis, Earl, and Bobby Perry, and two sisters, Reba
Allai and Ruby Rousseau, preceded him in death.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Crocker Cemetery southeast
of Pittsburg with the Rev. Wayne Black officiating.

WELLS, BETTY J. (MYERS)
Betty J. Wells, 81, of Parsons, died at 3:45 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at
the Good Samaritan Society in Parsons. She had been in failing health.
She was born on February 16, 1928 at Cherryvale, Kansas to Kerris John P. and
Ruth Mae (Marlnee) Myers. She grew up in the Cherryvale and Parsons areas. She attended country schools. She and
Dale E. Wells were united in marriage on February 26, 1944 at Columbus, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October
7, 2000.
She and her husband farmed near Dennis from 1953 to 1982. She worked as a certified
nurse’s aide at the Katy Hospital and at the Labette County Medical Center. She also worked at the Labette County
Health Department where she cared for birth to 3 year old children. She later worked as a caregiver for the elderly.
She was a member of the Dennis United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening,
arts and crafts, and going to dances.
Betty’s survivors include four sons, Dale “Maynard” Wells, and his wife, Bonnie
of McAllen, TX, John Wells, and his wife, Deb of rural Erie, Jim Wells, and his wife, Joyce of Topeka, and Randy
Wells of McCune; two daughters, Carol Williams, and her husband, Bill of Newton, and Jayne Wells of Parsons; 8
grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Whittingham of Grove, OK; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Myers
of Parsons. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Garry Wells and Lloyd Wayne Wells;
one daughter Judy Gale Wells; four brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Carson-Wall
Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from

ARMA — Joanne Caroline Roy, 69 of Arma, died at 7:02 p.m. Wednesday January 5,
2011 at the Medicalodge South Nursing Home in Pittsburg.
She was born November 21, 1941 in Lynn, MA the daughter of James A. Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Savoy) McGilvary.
She moved to Kansas in 1992 and has been a resident of Arma for the past 17 years.
Joanne married Rene Roy on April 30, 1965; he survives at the home.
While living in Massachusetts Joanne worked for Analog Devices. When she moved to the SEK area she worked as a
CNA and CMA for several local nursing facilities.
She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arma, the Arma American Legion Auxiliary, the Eagles Lodge
and a member of the Golden Era.
Survivors include her husband Rene of the home; a son Randy Roy of Pace, FL; two daughters Michelle Camp of Arma,
Darlene Claffey of Arma; a brother James A. McGilvary Jr. of Arma, KS; 15 grandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Mary McKinley.
Viewing and visitation services will be 11 a.m. Monday January 10th at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg
with Father Lawrence Carney officiating. The family will receive friends following the services. A reception
will be held following the visitation services at the Golden Era Community Building in Arma. Private family graveside

Shirley Wylene Walker Burford PITTSBURG, Kan. - Shirley W. Burford, 58, a Pittsburg
State University employee, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2006, at the Freeman Heart Institute at Joplin, Mo., following
a short illness.
Shirley attended school in Arma, Ks. and was a 1966 graduate of Arma High School.
She graduated from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor's degree in education.
She was most recently employed in the Wilkinson Alumni Center at Pittsburg State
Universary. She had previously worked in the PSU education department and the athletic department in the accounting
office.
Shirley Wylene Walker was born April 25, 1948 at Lamar, Colo., to Rev. Orville
Lee Walker and Doris (Capps) Walker. Her father preceded her in death as did a brother, Charles "Charlie"
Atkins Walker.
Shirley Wylene Walker married William "Billy" Burford on Feb. 26, 1970.
They divorced in 1983 in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
She is survived by her son, Matthew William Burford; her mother, Doris Walker;.
one brother, Donalle "Don" Walker; and two sisters, Patricia "Pat" Darlene Cowan, and Linda
Lou Fisher.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg. Burial

WALKER, ORVILE LEE REV.
Rev. Orville Lee Walker, 58, rural Girard, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6,
1974 in the Girard Hospital, Girard, Kansas. He had been in failing health the past two years and entered the hospital
three days ago.
The Rev. Mr. Walker was born May 21, 1916 in Stella, Mo. The son of Martin Walker
and Lue (Pogue) Walker. On Oct. 10, 1936 in Newton County, Missouri, he married Miss Doris Walker.
He was the pastor of the Arma Baptist Church for 15 years, retiring earlier this
year due to failing health.
Survivors include the widow, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Harding,
Fort Scott, Mrs. Shirley Burford, Monroe, La.; and Mrs. Linda Daugherty, Pittsburg, Ks.; two sons, Charles A.
Walker, Pittsburg, Ks., and Donalle Walker, Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, Wa.; and eight granchildren.
Besides being preceded in death by his parents, he was also preceded in death
by two brother, William "Jess" Jesse Walker and Leonard Franklin Walker.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the Siple Chapel in Arma with the Rev. James Shope officiating. Burial

WALKER, CHARLES "CHARLIE" ATKINS
Charles "Charlie" Atkins Walker, age 60, a resident of 647 Steen, Fort
Scott, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at his home following a cancer illness.
He was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Boulder City, Mo., the son of Rev. Orville Lee Walker and Doris (Capps) Walker.
He marrried Marilyn Query, the daughter of the late Lawrence "Jack"
Query and Alberta Mae (Duncan) Query, on Feb. 4, 1966, in Fort Scott.
Charlie graduated from Granby High School in Granby, MO. He also attended the
Fort Scott Community College and Pittsburg State University. He worked for over 30 years in the field of water
and wastewater, having worked for the cities of Pittsburg, Ks. and Stilwater, Ok., for almost 20 years.
In the fall semester of 1986, he began teaching in the Environmental Water Technology
Department at the Fort Scott Community College. He was forced to take medical disability in early 1998. During
his time at FSCC, he taughter Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations and Cross Connection Control and
Backflow Prevention courses throughout the state of Kansas. During his time at FSCC, he received several awards
from the United States Environmental Protection Agency for his work with non-complaint wastewater facilities within
the state.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Marilyn, of the home; two sons, Lane
Walker, of the home and Shane Walker and his wife, Jana, Grain Valley, Mo.; and his mother, Doris Walker, Fort
Scott.
Also surviving is a brother, Donalle Walker, Fruitland, Washington; and three
sisters, Patricia Cowan, Derby, Ks., Shirley Burford, Pittsburg, Ks., and Linda Fisher, LaHarpe, Ks.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1974.

Doris Walker, age 88, of Fort Scott, formerly of Arma and Franklin, died at 8:30
a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Carrington Place at Pittsburg.
Mrs. Walker was born July 30, 1918 at Granby, Missouri the daughter of George
and Ira Sturgeon Capps. Mrs. Walker was a homemaker. Doris was raised in Granby, Missouri and attended Granby schools.
She lived in Southwest Missouri until 1956 when they moved to Southeast Kansas and lived in Treeco, Cherokee, Arma,
Franklin, Pittsburg and Fort Scott. She worked for Pittsburg USD No. 250 as a cook and also managed the Fort Scott
Congregate Meals Program until she retired. She married Rev. Orville Walker on October 10, 1936 at Granby, Missouri.
Rev. Walker preceded her in death in October 1974. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church at Fort Scott.
Survivors include one son, Donalle Walker of Fruitland, Washington; two daughters, Patricia Cowan, Pittsburg and
Linda Fisher, Kansas City, Missouri; three sisters, Cassie Murray, Sacramento, California, Susie Greer, Diamond,
Missouri, and Peggy Boutelle, Rochester, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded
in death by a son, Charles Walker; a daughter, Shirley Burford; a sister, Myrtle Organ; and three brothers, Sam
Capps, Bill Capps, and Jack Capps.

FRONTENAC — Teresa M. Nonbello, 80, of Frontenac died at 7:12 a.m. Thursday April
3, 2008, at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg.
She was born April 18, 1927, in Frontenac, KS, the daughter of Joseph and Urusla
(Turlip) Zortz. She was a lifetime resident of Frontenac; she attended Sacred Heart Grade School and was a graduate
of Frontenac High School.
Teresa married John E. Nonbello on July 12, 1952, in Frontenac, KS; he preceded
her in death on July 3, 2004.
She was a member of the Sacred Heath Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Alter
Society.
Survivors include two sons-Michael Nonbello of Kansas City, MO; John J. Nonbello
of Minneapolis, MN; a daughter Mary Ann Fincher of Frontenac; 2 sisters Madge LaForte of Raytown, MO, Margaret

and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers Frank, John and
Joseph Zortz, and six sisters Lena Cox, Ann Scavezze, Mary (Zortz) Rudman, Judy Baima, and Agnes Schmidt.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday April 7, 2008, at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Robert McElwee as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel
Cemetery. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac
where the family will receive friends following the rosary until 7 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home from

VEACH, WILLIAM "DALE"
William "Dale" Dale Veach, 64, 1744 U. S. Highway 160, Parsons, died
at 6:44 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 1996, at the Labette County Medical Center. He had been in failing health for eight
months.
He was born Oct. 17, 1931, at Weaubleau, Mo., to Arthur and Edith (McLalin) Veach.
He grew up and attended rural schools near El Dorado Springs, Mo. For several years, he was employed at Western
Condensing Co. and Mid-America Dairy at El Dorado Springs. He also was employed at a Missouri Farmers Association
service station.
In 1977, he moved to Erie, where he operated a used car business. He also was
employed at the IMI Business Forms at Parsons for 20 years, retiring in 1994. After his retirement, he moved to
Parsons.
His hobbies were cars and gardening.
He married Sadie Davis on June 18, 1950. They were divorced.
He married Nancy (Myers) White on Dec. 23, 1977, at the Foursquare Church in
Parsons. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include three sons, William "Bill" and Jerry, both
of Springfield, Mo., and Thomas "Eddie" Edward of Hawalli, Kuwait; a daughter, Patricia Andrews of Willard,
Mo.; five grandchildren; and a brother, Paul of Joplin.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor
Charles Beard officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
