Nathan LeRoy Martin was born August 31, 1829 in Green County, KY. to
William & Mariah Chapman Martin. As a young man, he moved to
Petersburg, (Menard County) Illinois, as did many relatives of
his. Nathan married a Menard County lady, Rhoda Elizabeth Ferguson, in
Petersburg, IL., on August 25, 1859. To this union, 7 sons and 1
daughter were born. Their 2nd son, William H. Martin died at the age of
13 months, in 1863, and is buried in Lease's Grove Cemetery in Teheran
(Mason County), IL.
According to the 1880 census, the family had moved to Mercer
County, Missouri. After the death of Rhoda, Nathan married Cynthia Ann
Flood in Mercer County. To this union, 6 more children were born.
Nathan died February 21, 1913 in Atchison, Kansas.
Nathan LeRoy Martin has many descendants living in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.
