ACCIDENT - Col. F. M. Keith
Col. F. M. Keith, of Brown County,
met with a very serious accident on last Friday night. He was returning from White Cloud, with his wagon and team
and got down to open a gate through which he had to pass. As he was shutting the gate, the horses started to run,
when he seized the reins, to stop them; but he was thrown down, and the wheels of the wagon passed over his shoulder,
chest and side, breaking several ribs, and bruising him badly otherwise. His injuries are very serious but not
thought to be dangerous.
SKINNED OUT - J. W. BRINK
J. W. Brink, well known hereabouts
as an omnibus and express man, vamosed the ranch on Friday night, taking with him his goods, chattels, and live
stock. He leaves behind him some pleasant memories, in the shape of divers notes and book accounts - one man we
learn being poulticed to the amount of about $300. He bore off to the southward in the wake of the furniture man
and his probably bound for the promised land. Brink was on the brink of insolvency, and didn't like to tarry.
This is getting to be the favorite
morning salutation in Troy: "Good Morning, Did any person skedaddle last night!"
MANN
Our friend Mann has been having
a serious time, for several days past. He had an attack of congestion of the brain brought on by a severe cold
andon Wednesday came near dying. We are glad to know that he is better and hope soon to see him about again as
stout as ever.
ACCIDENTS
Just now, a great many accidents
are occurring in this vicinity.
X. K. Stout, a few days ago, had
his foot severely injured by a reaping mahine and has been confined to his house.
A young man named McDaniel, living
on Rock Creek, the other day split his foot open with an axe. The ash extended from the toes to where the foot
is joined to the ankle.
The early part of this week, a
young man in this vicinity whose name we did not learn, had his thumb cut off.
On Tuesday, a young Norweigian,
named Peter Christianson, living near Norway Station, was kicked by a mule, and a bad gash cut in his cheek, just
below the eye.
BRINK
News reached here the other day,
that the absconding Brink have been overhauled at Ottawa, and was being brought back to Troy. His route had been
by way of Platte City, to Kansas City, thence in the direction of Southern Kansas. The cavalcade is momentarily
expected to make its grand entree into twon.
When the biter gets bit, The bite
it is bitter, And when Brink tried flit, He was brought back a flitter.

POCKET BOOK LOST - WM. OWSLEY
A man named Wm. Owsley, emigrating
to the Solomon Valley, lost his pocket-book out of his wagon, this morning on the Hiawatha road, somewhere within
three miles of Troy. It contained some six or seven dollars, but was all the money he had. The pocket-book also
contained a note which had been paid by Owsley, but was not cancelled. Any person finding it, is requested to leave
it at the Chief office and will be welcome to enough of it for to pay him for his trouble.
