DONIPHAN COUNTY
Guilty of Two Crimes that Will Land Him
HIAWATHA, Kas., Sept. 7---Considerable excitement was caused here today by the arrest of Dick Rhodes, alias Fish, wanted in Doniphan County for three penitentiary offenses. Some months ago Rhodes, who is a brutal negro, caused the ruin of a half-witted white girl at Iowa Point, Doniphan County. To prevent the discovery of his crime, Rhodes attempted to perform a criminal operation upon the girl, causing her death. He was arrested, escaped and, to facilitate escape, stole a horse frm H. D. Guthrie, a farmer of Iowa Point. Rhodes has since been in Oklahoma, returning 10 days ago. Either of the crimes is sufficient to give him a life term in the Kansas Penitentiary.
