  Howard Courthouse

A Special "Thank You!!" to Don Tharp for his many years of hosting several counties in Kansas!!  Happy Retirement!

This Genealogy Trails legacy site has been retired and is not available for adoption.

Elk County was formed in 1875 when Howard County was divided, creating Elk and Chautauqua counties. It is named after the stream which runs through it.

Howard is the county seat.
