A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Arnhold at St. Anthony's hospital, Thursday, May 5th, to whom they have given the name, Frederick James.

Word came to I.S. Hastings Friday that a fine boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lon Funk on July 17 at Victoria, Kan.

Mrs. L. Houser entertained Saturday with a birthday party in honor of her daughter, Irene. Luncheon was served after which prize favors were given. Guests were Rita Mae Houser, Bernatha Baumstimler, Regina Baumstimler, Mary Brown, Margaret Pierson, Jean Pierson, Alice Arnold, Annabel Start, Alice Walters, Caroline Engel, Volda Pelzel, Marie Tholen Marie Snyder, Frances Schlyer, and Louise Schuvie. 101ST BIRTHDAY - Adam Treat

Adam Treat of Hays City celebrated his 101st birthday recently. He was one of the committee of Masons that received Lafayette when he made his second visit to America. (Fair Play, June 3, 1898, page 2)

SURPRISE PARTY- Anton Unrien Sr.

Mr. and Mrs. Anton Unrien Sr., were surprised Sunday night by a number of their friends to celebrate Mr. Unrien's birthday. The evening was spent in dancing and three-course luncheon was served. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Brown and family; Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Boudreau and family; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Boos and family; Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Brungardt and family; Mr. and Mrs. Peter A. Hertie and family; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kranwitt; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kranwitt, Joe Hertel, Alex Hertle, Mrs. Nick Baugh and son of Sterling, Colo., Clarence Unrein, Adolph Unrein and Wendelin Unrein.
