Originally called Sequoyah County, Finney County was created in 1883 and in 1893 Garfield County was annexed to it. It is named after the David W. Finney, who was serving as Lt. Governor when it was organized. Garden City is the county seat; besides the cities listed at the left, the communities of Friend, Gano, Kalvesta, Lowe, Peterson, Pierceville, Plymell, Ritchal, Rodkey, Tennis and Wolf lie within the boundaries of Finney County.
