ROBERTS, MARGUERITE
Mrs. Marguerite Roberts, 63, who had served as
librarian of the Richmond Library since 1959, died at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday
at the Richmond Community Methodist Church with Rev. Harold Peters officiating. Burial will be at the Princeton
Cemetery, Princeton. Mrs. Roberts was born Oct. 31, 1908, in Miami County, the daughter of Frederick and Harriet
Ellis Johnson. She married Ralph R. Roberts, March 20, 1929. He died Mar. 14, 1952. A teacher at the Tapley Country
School, three miles east of Richmond, until 1931. Mrs. Roberts renewed her teaching certificate in 1955 at Ottawa
University. From 1955 to 1956, she taught at the Mud Creek School in Franklin County and later in Platte City,
Mo., until 1959. Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Richmond Community Methodist Church, the Richmond WSCS and the
Kansas Library Association. Survivors include a son, Merle Roberts, Richmond; her mother, Mrs. Harriet Johnson,
Oak Haven Nursing Home in Richmond, and two brothers, Carl Johnson, Ponca City, Okla., and Glen Johnson of Athens,

EAST, CAROL SUE
Carol Sue East, 63, Ottawa, died Thursday, June
1, 2006, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.
She was born Sept. 25, 1942, at Mexico, Mo., to Lindel Sherwood and Edith E. (Eller) Chism. She moved with her
family from Mexico to Ottawa when she was 3, where she lived all her life except for a year in Wichita. She attended
Ottawa schools and earned a General Equivalency Degree in 1979 and attended Neosho County Community College for
one year at Ottawa. She was a homemaker and had been employed by Parmalee, Ottawa Retirement Village and Econo
Lodge. She was a member of the North Baptist Church in Ottawa. She married Bob West june 11, 1960. They later divorced.
She married Ray East July 3, 1990, at Ottawa. They later divorced. She was preceded in death by her father and
a son, David West. Survivors include her mother, Ottawa; a son, Mike West, Ottawa; a daughter, Cindy Roberts, Welda;
a daughter-in-law, Wendy Schulz, Ottawa; a brother, Vernon Chism, Las Vegas; sisters, Linda LeMasters, Ottawa,
and Katie Loseke, Topeka; and nine grandchildren. Friends may pay their respects after 1 p.m. Sunday to the service
hour at Dengel and Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday. memorial contributions

BOYER, CHESTER E.
Services for Chester E. Boyer, 80, Melvern, who
died Monday at the Hilltop Rest Home in Lyndon, will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at the Melvern Church of God, Masonic
graveside services will be conducted at the Melvern Cemetery. Boyer was born May 10, 1891, at Quenemo, the son
of John and Hannah (Eddington) Boyer, He Married Nellie Reeder, Nov. 21, 1915, at Rosemont. She died in 1958. Boyer
had been a resident of the rest home the past two and a half years. Before his retirement he was a section foreman
for the Santa Fe Railrord. He was a member of the Melvern Church of God and the Melvern Lodge No. 22 AF and AM.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Verlin (Leona) Gragg and a brother, Vance Boyer, both of Melvern; two sisters,
Mrs. Cora Brown, Dallas Tex., and Mrs. Hazel Reeder, Reseda, Calif.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

FREDERICK ALVIN
Frederick Alvin Johnson of Richmond, aged 76, died
in Ransom Memorial hospital today at 5 a.m. In ill health for some time, he became seriously ill Monday and was
brought to the hospital early this morning. He was born near Osawatomie Feb. 29, 1880, and had lived all his life
in Miami and Franklin counties. He had farmed at Lane and retired in 1941 and moved to Richmond. He was married
to Harriet Ellis at Lane on Feb. 14, 1905. He was a member of the Friends church east of Lane. Survivors are Mrs.
Johnson, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Roberts, Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Glen Irvin Johnson, Atlanta,
Ga., and Carl Johnson, Lincolnson, Ga.; five grandchildren, two brothers, King Johnson, Kansas City, Mo., and Ara
Johnson, Osawatomie; and one sister, Mrs. Cressie Hoover, Emporia. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist
Community church in Richmond Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. B. M. Dobbin and Rev. Cecil M. Orr will officiate. Burial

Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel J. Showalter of
211 S. Cedar, who died yesterday, will be held at the McVey-Dengel Mortuary Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. Charles P.
Knight will officiate, Burial will be in Highland cemetery. Mrs. Swowalter was born Oct. 2, 1881 in Taylor county,
Ky. She was married to William Wesley Showalter at Paola in 1898. He died in 1942. Mrs Showalter was a member of
the Centerville, Kas., Methodist Church. She attended the Ottawa Christian church. She had lived in Ottawa since
1938. Survivors are two sons, Harold J. Showalter and Leonard Showalter, Ottawa; and 1 1 grandchildren. (The Ottawa

ELLER, LEONA
Mrs. Leona Eller, 78, 601 N. Cherry, died at 5:35
p.m. Wednesday in Ransom Memorial Hospital after a few weeks illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the
Towner Chapel. Rev. Jim Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery at Auxvasse, Mo., after a service
at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Grand Prairie Church near there. The body will remain at the Towner Chapel until Saturday
morning. Mrs. Eller was born Dec. 23, 1886, at Auxvasse and was married there Dec. 15, 1908 to Ralph Eller. He
died March 25, 1942. Mrs. Eller moved to Ottawa March 1, 1946. She was a member of the North Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lindel Chism, with whom she lived; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren,
one brother, C. H. Johnson, Fulton, Mo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Johnson, Columbia, Mo.; and Mrs. Claude Woods,

CHISM, LINDEL S.
The funeral for Lindel S. Chism, 72, 601 N. Cherry,
who died Monday at a Kansas City hospital, will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary with burial
in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Ben Moor will officiate. Chism was born Oct. 13, 1910, at Auxvasse, Mo., moving
here in 1946. He was owner of Chism Construction Company of Ottawa, operating it from 1942 until retiring in
1975. He was a commercial and resdiential builder. He was a member of Ottawa Senior Citizen's Club and the North
Baptist Church. On Jan. 28, 1933, he married Edith Eller at Mexico, Mo. She survives. Other survivors include
a son, Vernon Chism, Las Vegas; three daughters, Mrs. Linda Sible, Las Vegas; Mrs. Katie Loseke, Wichita, and Mrs.
Carol West, 720 N. Cherry; a brother, Ray Chism, Auxvasse, Mo.; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Fred, Fulton, Mo.; Mrs.
Pearl Austin, Auxvasse; Mrs. Jewel Foster, Mexico, Mo.; Mrs. Stella Rentschler, Fulton, MO., and Mrs. Virginia
Miller, Fulton, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Americal Cancer
