WHITE, Cora (Jobe) Cora White, daughter of Thomas Martin and Mary Elizabeth Jobe, was born at Barnard, Mo., Dec. 14, 1871, and passed away April 8, 1953 at the home of her daughter, Nellie Keller, Hoxie, Kans. after an illness extending over several years. She was 81 years, 3 months and 27 days old. Her early childhood was spent in Missouri. After the death of her mother she lived with an aunt until 15 years of age when she came with her father to Morland. Those were pioneer days and she learned the value of friends and neighbors as only experience can teach. She "Mothered" a younger Sister, Mary, until she passed away in 1898. She was employed in Cloud County where she met and later married Wm. H. White, at Concordia, in 1894. To this union were born five daughters, Minnie, Nellie, Zetia, Essie and Lucille. Mr. and Mrs. White resided in Cloud County near Aurora, until 1902 when they came to Graham Co. settling on a farm in the Bellview neighborhood, where they built a new home, rearing their family and taking their places in the community there. Mrs. White being kind hearted, observant and adept, she grew to be much in demand where illness occurred in the neighborhood and many new babies with their mothers were ministered to by "Aunt Cora," as she was affectionally called. Mr. and Mrs. White moved from the farm to a home in Morland in 1924. Mr. White passed away in 1935 and Aunt Cora continued in the home mothering grandchildren and neighbors children alike until her health failed to such an extend that she required care by her loved ones. She was hospitalized many times and her endurance, fortitude and patience was amazing to doctors, friends and family. She and Mr. White united with the Presbyterian church at Aurora in 1898 and continued in that faith through life. She was a member of the Womans Bible Clubs and attended regularly services of the Methodist church at Morland. She loved to work in the Women's Society of Christian Service and was an honorary member of the Matrons Thimble club. Since her health failed and she could not go to church services, she continued to worship by listening to the Prairie Pastor's Services and other Sacred music by radio. Her life has been one of sacrifice, devotion and usefulness. She earned the admiration and respect of all whose privilege it was to know her. Two daughters preceded her in death: Minnie Moore in 1950 and Zetia Freeman in 1951. She leaves to mourn her passing her three daughters; Mrs. Nellie Keller, Hoxie; Mrs. Essie Maupin and Mrs. Lucille Boss of Morland; her brother's wife Mrs. Maude Jobe of Greeley, Colo.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. We cannot Lord, Thy purpose see, But all, well that's done by Thee. There is a link death cannot sever. Her sweet remembrance lasts forever. Funeral services were held Sunday, 2:30 p.m., April 12, 1953, at the Methodist church, Morland with Onan Vale of Hoxie and Rev. F. M. Bishop of Morland officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Gladys Born, pianist, with a mixed quartet, Robt. Rath, Mrs. Jas Taber, Mrs. John Chipman and Clarence Scott who sang: Going Down the Valley One by One; Lead Me Gently Home, Father; and Beautiful Threads of Gold, Robert Rath, soloist. Casket bearers were: John Born, John Sullivan, Warren Boss, Victor Blazier, Louis Hayes and Dale St. John. Interment was made in the family lot in the Morland cemetery beside that of her husband. WILSON, Daisy Ann (Teter) Daisy Ann Teter Wilson was born in Denver, Colorado on 21 November 1936 to Noel and Leona (Dill) Teter and died on 3 June 2006 in Hill City, Kansas. She grew up in Englewood but spent much of her time fishing and hunting in the Rocky Mountains with her family and dear family friend, Roy McKee. Loveland Pass was always her favorite place. Her best friend Marlene Shaw Reynolds remembers Tony, as she was known during her teens, as a beautiful, vivacious girl with a wonderful laugh. On 15 September 1956, Daisy married the love of her life, Burl "Bud" Wilson, in Raton, New Mexico. To this union four children were born. During the first year of their marriage, Daisy and Bud lived in Denver before moving to the Sheridan Lake, Colorado area where they lived until 1969. WOOD, Ida May (Bailey) Mrs. Ida May Bailey Wood, wife of J. M. Wood, died at her home five miles northwest of Morland, Kansas, Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 24, 1910, from hemorrhage, at the age of 28 years, 3 months, 27 days. Her little baby boy, after a few hours existence passed away and was laid in the mother's arms to await the resurrection morn. They were interred in the Anderson cemetery Thursday evening August, 25th. The wife and mother was born near Belleville; Kansas April, 18, 1872 and was united in marriage to J. M. Wood, February, 20, 1889 and to this union thirteen children were born, eleven of whom survive her. All were present to witness the last sad rites except a daughter, Mrs. Rosa Clary, of Troy, Kansas. Rev. Benj. Hill conducted the funeral services and offered words of comfort and consolation to the sorrowing ones. The entire community sympathizes with the family in their sad hour of bereavement, knowing that a good woman has been called. She had no affiliation with any organized denomination but lived on the broad plane and followed the precept as laid down by our Savior, to do unto others as you would that they should do unto you and through the rough pathway of life she has borne her part uncomplainingly, often showing her faith by the one remark, "It may be better some time" and through several years of intimate acquaintance she displayed on the cardinal virtues, toward all humanity, to never speak disparagingly of any one. The ones that are left realizing her full worth as a loving wife, mother, daughter, councilor and friend will find words inadequate to express their sorrow and loss. "The sign of the fire by night, the sign of the clouds by day, Hovering o'er, Just before, As we journey on our way, Shall our guide and leader be "Till the wilderness is past And the Lord, Our God, In his own time Shall lead to the light at last." --A Friend. Card of Thanks. We wish to thank the many kind friends and neighbors who so generously assisted us at the death and burial of our loved wife, mother and infant babe. J. M. Wood and family, E. M. Bailey Note: Burial was in Anderson Cemetery. [Source: Hill City New Era (Hill City, Kansas), 1 September 1910.] |
