Greenwood County was organized in 1862; it was named for Alfred B. Greenwood, who served as commissioner of Indian Affairs during territorial days. Eureka is the county seat; other communities include Bisbee, Blodgett, Burkett, Fall River, Hilltop, Ivanpah, Kenbro, Lamont, Lapland, Madison, Neal, Peidmont, Rocky Ford, Severy, Thrall and Teterville.
