Organized in 1886, Hamilton County was named for Alexander Hamilton, who was killed in a duel with Aaron Burr.
Syracuse is the county seat of Hamilton County. Smaller communities include Kendall, Mayline, Medway and Trail City. Part of the Santa Fe trail runs through the county.
