Harvey County was organized in 1872. It was named for James M. Harvey, Kansas Governor 1869-1973; besides the cities listed at the left, the communities of Alta Mills, Annelly, McGraw, Patterson, Paxton, Sand Creek, Van Arsdale and Zimmerdale lie within the boundaries of Harvey County.
