HARTMAN, SARAH L.

Obit: Jewell County Monitor, Mankato, Kansas, March 31, 1922

Sarah L. Wright, daughter of Samuel J. and Isabel Wright, was born March 23rd, 1840, near Toledo, Ohio, and died at Mankato, Kansas, March 25, 1922, at the age of 82 years and 2 days.

With her parents she moved to Butler County, Iowa, and there was married to Elijah E. Brown, March 30th 1858. Mr. Brown died August 11, 1896. To this couple were born nine children, 3 girls and 6 boys, of who 2 girls and 4 boys are still living.

She united with the Christian church at Finchford, Iowa at the age of 25 years.

April 3rd, 1900 she was again united in marriage to W. Hartman, who died, September 8th, 1919 at Burr Oak.

Funeral services were held from the Christian Church of this place, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. T. D. Halbert. Burial was made in the Burr Oak Cemetery.

DAWDY, DELTA ROY

Lifetime Resident Called by Death - D. R. Dawdy, 81, Dies Following Long Illness

Jewell lost a useful and worthy citizen in the death Sunday of D. R. Dawdy. Born near Jewell, he lived the 81 years of his lifetime in this community. Mr. Dawdy lived an industrious life, even in retirement. He had many practical skills and his services were in wide demand.

Mr. Dawdy was a twin. His name was Delta Roy; that of his twin brother, Della Joy. But Mr. Dawdy preferred the name of "Chug," by which he was known for most of his life and this name is engraved on the stone at his grave in the cemetery.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Christian church in Jewell. The Rev. H. H. Bussell conducted the serivce. Ira Schindler sang two numbers, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. Faith Kieffer was accompanist. Pallbearers were Wendell Wooster, Clifford Abram, Vernon Fedde, Roy Sluyter, Leo Bass, and Lyle Hoffer. Honorary pallbearers were C. R. Foulke, Guy Nixon, L. B. Hoel, A. C. Fedde, E. P. McIntyre, Arthur Schafer, E. N. Toyliff, and E. B. Gray. The Van Sickel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Delta Roy Dawdy

Delta Roy "Chug" Dawdy, one of the twin sons was born September 14, 1881, to J. A. and Irabelle (Betts) Dawdy on the Dawdy homestaed northeast of Jewell, Kansas. He departed this life on June 9, 1963. His twin brother was named Della Joy.

He spent his boyhood on his parents' farm and received his education int he Paradise rural school and in Jewell.

He was converted in an evangelistic meeting conducted by Mrs. Clara Hazelrigg in the Jewell Christian church.
he was married to Una May Fitch on April 11, 1906, at the home of the bride's parents. Rev. Channer of the Jewell Christian church performed the ceremony.

In 1956, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and held many pleasant memories of that occasion.

Two children were born to them Loren Rea Dawdy of Jewell and Florence Eloise, now Mrs. John Sodowsky of Derby, Kansas.

Mr. and Mrs. Dawdy lived on his father's farm the first few y ears of their married life, then bought the farm 3 miles east of Jewell which was their home for 42 years. In 1950 they sold the farm and bought the home in Jewell.

Chug was president of the Wallace Cemetery board for 24 years and associated with the cemetery work for a longer period. His records for all work there were accurately kept.

In his father's declining years he handled all matters of business for him and was guardian of one brother's children when they were orphaned.

He had a wide acquaintance in the county and was a special friend to children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife Una, a son Loren of Jewell, a daughter, Florence of Derby; daughter in law, Olive Dawdy of Jewell; son in law John R. Sodowsky, Derby, two granddaughters, Martha Jean Soucheck of Concordia and Kay Marie Sodowsky of Derby, two great-grandchildren, Janet and Alan Souchek; several nieces and nephews; two cousins, and many friends. - Jewell Republican.

"Chug" made many friends during his life time and he retained them all. He was well and favorably known in the county and this fine man will always be remembered by his relatives and many friends. (Jewell County Record, June 20, 1963, page 8)

GRIFFITH, GOLDIE E.

Our aunt, Goldie E. Griffith, passed away after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held at Odessa on Sunday June 23 and she was laid to rest in the Odessa Cemetery. Immediate survivors are her son, George and his wife, Bonnie and sons of Nelson, Nebr.; her daughter, Elva Zerbe, and son of Superior; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Claire Drolet of Greeley, Colo.; two nephews and four nieces; and other relatives and friends. Songs were "Rock of Ages," and "In the Garden" by Mrs. Dorothy Jennings and Mrs. Ruby Eustace, accompanied by Mrs. Abbott of Lebanon. Klawitter Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of arrangements. MARR, JOSEPH TEAGUE

Funeral services for Joseph Teague Marr whose death was mentioned in newspapers, were held Monday September 28 at the Methodist church at Formosa, Kansas, Rev Cunningham officiating. Interment was made at the Fairview cemetery, Lovewell Kansas. The pall bearers were three brothers of the deceased: Chas. Marr, Ed. Marr and H. D. Marr, and three brothers-in-law: Chas Leece, Henry Leece and John Leece.

On August 28 Mr Marr was taken to the Superior Hospital at Superior Nebraska for treatment for infection and passed away there on September 25.
He leaves to mourn his death his faithful and loving wife, one son, Curtis, one daughter, Nellie (Mrs Fay Swihart), ten grandchildren; five brothers: William, Dodgeville Wisconsin; H. D. Marr, Madison South Dakota; Charles and Ed Marr, Adrian Minnesota; Nathan, Ellsworth Minnesota; three sisters: Mrs Joseph Cowin, Mrs W. B. Tregonning, both of Adrian Minnesota and Mrs James Smith, Clear Lake South Dakota.

Joseph Teague Marr was born in Dodgeville Wisconsin May 11 1863. In 1882 he moved to the vicinity of Adrian Minnesota and settled on a farm there with his parents. On November 17 1891 he married Estella Leece and to them four children were born: Curtis and Nellie (Mrs Fay Swihart) both of Lovewell Kansas; James, who died in the World War October 4 1918 and Elsie, who died July 4 1922.

In the fall of 1893 Mr and Mrs Marr moved to Lovewell Kansas wherre they resided on a farm until 1912 when they moved to Formosa. Mr Marr was the fifth son of a family of 15 children, six of whom preceded him in death. (Ellsworth News, Ellsworth, Minnesota, 1931, submitted by Gary Boomgaarden)

PHILLIPS, EDITH

Services for Mrs. Edith Phillips will be at the Ionia Cemetery on June 25 at 2:00 p.m. She had made her home with her daughter Lucille. Mrs. Phillips was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank George. Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Lucille, Maxine and Ilene; one sister, Media Whitley; brothers, Clarence, Harold, Ives and Edgar George; other relatives and friends. WARNE, SIDDIE (PRICE)

Siddie Price was born May 12th, 1859 at Ontario, Canada. She came with her parents to Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 12 years, living in and near that city until 1896, having married W. M. Warne at Bennet, Nebraska on July 29, 1877.

She removed with Mr. Warne to Jewell County, Kansas in March 1896, and settled on the farm at Rubens where she resided until her death May 28, 1919. Surviving her are her husband, W. M. Warne and two sons, George T. and Clement O., all of Rubens, one son Freddie, having died in infancy. One sister Mrs. Charles Tout of Lincoln, Nebraska also survives the deceased, together with four brothers whose address is unknown and three grandchildren. Burial was held at Webber, Kansas. WHITE, JESSE F.

Jesse F. White, son on of William and Sarah (Snyder) White, was born Oct. 11 1864 in Morrow county, Ohio, and passed away at the Boone Co. hospital, Nov. 30 following a brief illness at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 19 days. He moved with his parents to Taylor county, Iowa, near Bedford. Leaving there in 1870 he came to Jewell county, Kans., near Mankato, and remained there until 1895, when he returned to Ohio. He was united in marriage to Amy L. White. June 28, 1896. To this union no children were born. After residing in Cardington, Ohio. for 5 years then moved to Boone, where they have since made their home. During his time time here, he became a well known dairyman. He was also a charter member of the Teamsters of Boone. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, step-mother, Mrs. Adeline White of Boone; two sisters, Mrs. Irena Osborne and Mrs.. Mary Dempsey of Jewell county, Kans; three brothers, Arthur of Boone, Ray of Yale, Iowa and Clarence of Guthrie Center, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three brothers and two sisters. Many nephews and nieces survive him. A short service was conducted by Rev. E. L. Brooks at the Kramer Chapel in Mankato, Monday forenoon and burial was in Shaffer cemetery. Mr. White was a brother of Mrs. Osborne of Courtland. ARCHER, WALTER A.

Funeral services for Walter A. Archer, who died Jan. 16, were held at Towner's Funeral Chapel Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. Rev. Harold B. Hotchkiss officiated. Pallbearers were C. W. O'Connor, Arthur Seyler, Arthur Jones, LeRoy Todd, Bert Seyler and Jess Collins. Mrs. R. B. Craig sang hymns accompanied by Mrs. Lawrence Ott. Interment was in Wellsville Cemetery. BENTZ, PHILLIP H.

Funeral services were held yesterday morning at the Overbrook Methodist Church for Phillip H. Bentz, 42, who died Friday night at his home near Overbrook. Graveside services were held at St. John's Lutheran cemetery at Tampa, Kas., yesterday afternoon.

He had lived in Overbrook since 1937. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred Bentz, and two sons, Philip, Jr., and Arlan, all of the home; his mother, five brothers and two sisters. (The Ottawa Herald, January 18, 1955, page 2)

BROWN, GERALDINE BEATRICE

Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Farris Funeral Home in Garnett for Mrs. Geraldine Beatrice Brown of Garnett, mother of Mrs. Betty Denniston of Ottawa. She died in The Garnett hospital Tuesday after a long illness. Burial will be in the Garnett cemetery.

She was born in Colorado. Survivors are her husband, Earl Brown of Garnett, one other daughter, Mary Irene Brown of the home four sons, Raymond Brown and Robert Messenger, of the home; Clarence Messenger, Denver; and Jack Messenger, Harlan, Ia.; four grandchildren; her father, and two sisters, living at a distance; step-children, Mrs. Edgar Reever, Homewood; Mrs. John Ball, Wellsville and Earl Brown, Kansas City. DeCOURSEY, J. H.

Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Bennett, Sr., Mrs. J. Henry Bennett and Mrs. Bert Anderson went to Kansas City today to call on the family of a business associate J. H. DeCoursey, who died Wednesday. They will attend the funeral to be held tomorrow. He was organizer and president of the DeCoursey Creamery Co. (The Ottawa Herald, January 21, 1955, page 2)

HANEY, JESSE THOMAS

Jesse Thomas Haney,57, died suddenly last night at the home north of Wellsville. Death resulted from a heart attack.

He was born December 11, 1897 at Buffalo, Mo. The family moved to Wellsville community 11 years ago from Eureka. Surviving are the widow, a son Harold Haney, Wellsville; two grandchildren, a brother and two sisters.

The funeral will be held Sunday from the Coughlin Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Paul Leslie is to officiate, and interment will be in Wellsville Cemetery. (The Ottawa Herald, January 20, 1955, page 2)

KEY, J. E.

Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Stephens and children will go to Sterling, Kas., tomorrow to attend the funeral of his grandfather, J. E. Key, to be held at 2 p.m. He died Wednesday evening at the age of 85, and was a life-long resident of Sterling. (The Ottawa Herald, January 21, 1955, page 2)

POPE, MARY E.

Mrs. Mary E. Pope, aged 88, of 530 N. Oak St., died yesterday at 1:15 p.m. in Ransom Memorial Hospital. She had been in failing health the past six years. Born July7, 1867, in Farriston, Ky., she had lived in Ottawa since 1915, moving from Garnet. She was a member of the Jehovah Witness church and Security Benefit Association.

Survivors are one son, Eugene E. Pope, Topeka; five daughters, Mrs. Fred A. Doman, Mrs. Ferne I. Simmons and Miss Pauline Pope, all of Ottawa; Mrs. Lee R. Hettick, North Platte, Nebr.; and Mrs. Edwin L. Birt, Topeka; two sisters, Mrs. Boyd Baker and Mrs. S. D. Stacy, both of Stanford, Ky., four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the McVey-Dengel Mortuary Sunday at 2 p.m. with Minister Floyd Ford in charge. Interment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Williamsburg. (The Ottawa Herald, January 22, 1955, page 2)

News has been received of the death yesterday in Ft. Collins, Colo., of A. B. Richardson, 83, formerly of Pomona and Quenemo. He moved to Colorado about 1-1/2 years ago. Burial will be at Morrill, Nebr., Friday at 2 p.m. (The Ottawa Herald, January 19, 1955, page 2)

SMITH, LAWRENCE EUGENE

Word has been received of the death of Lawrence Eugene Smith, 25, Saturday, near Sunset Beach, Calif. He was the son of former Ottawans, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson L. Smith, now of Independence, Mo. The young man was serving in the navy at Long Beach, Calif., and was soon to have received his discharge.

He was killed in the collision of a motor car in which he and a shipmate were riding and a parked transport truck. Both boys were killed and it is thought both had fallen asleep when the accident occurred.

The boy was born at Ottawa and the family left here several years ago. Mr. Smith graduated from William Chrisman high school, Independence. He entered the navy March 12, 1951, and was assigned to the U. S. S. Matthews.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Norma Bird, and Mrs. Lois Morris, Independence; Miss Irma Smith, Santa Monica, Calif., and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ella Smay, Ottawa. The mother of the deceased was Miss Ruth Smay of Ottawa, before her marriage. R. L. Smay and Mrs. William Sutor, Ottawa are an uncle and aunt of the deceased.

Several Ottawa friends and relatives plan to attend the funeral to be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Carson Funeral Home, Independence, Mo. Graveside and burial services will be tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock in Princeton cemetery. (The Ottawa Herald, January 18, 1955, page 2)

WHEELER, GEORGE RILEY

George Riley Wheeler, 95, of 1112 South Cedar, died today at 8:30 a.m. at Ransom Memorial hospital. He was a well known retired farmer and a resident here 75 years.

He was born December 28, 1859 at Annapolis, Ill., son of William preston and Isadore (Bonham) Wheeler. He was married to Nora Belle Gregory December 30, 1880 at Lyons and she died in 1942. Their only child was a daughter, Dr. Carrie Campbell now deceased.

At the age of 19 in 1878 Mr. Wheeler came with his parents to a farm near Lyons. A week following his marriage he and Mrs. Wheeler moved to a farm, five miles southeast of Ottawa, where they lived many years.

Mr. Wheeler was widely known as a grower of fine fruit and vegetables. He exhibited his agricultural products at the Franklin County fair 55 years. He represented Franklin county at the Topeka and Hutchinson fairs for 31 years, showed displays at the Wichita Interstate Fair eight years, at the St. Joseph, Mo., fair a year and at Electric Park, Kansas City two years.

He was a member of the Methodist church 73 years, many years at Union Chapel Methodist Church and later when he came to Ottawa of the First Methodist church.

The funeral is to be Friday at 2 p.m. from the Lamb Funeral Home. Rev. G. R. Fosmire will officiate and interment will be in Highland Cemetery. (The Ottawa Herald, January 26, 1955, page 2)

WRAY, MARY EDNA

Mrs. Mary Edna Wray, 65, wife of Joe B. Wray, route 1, Pomona, died Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at Ransom Memorial Hospital. She had been in the hospital since January 16.

Mary Edna Crist was born August 24, 1889 in Anderson County, Kans., daughter of Jonathan C. and Emma (Barnhart) Crist. She was married to Mr. Wray October 18, 1911, at Ottawa. She had lived since 1893 on the farm which was her home at the time of her death.

Surviving are the husband, two daughters, Mrs. Leonard Flory and Mrs. Ralph Ikenberry, Pomona; a sister and a brother, Sarah E. Crist, Ottawa; Ammon A. Crist, Pomona; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be in the Eighth Mile German Baptist Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. Brother Alpha Davison, assisted by Brother Allen Mohler, will officiate. Interment is to be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. (The Ottawa Herald, January 24, 1955, page 2)

SIEBERT, HENRY EMIL

Henry Emil Siebert, only son of Anna and Jacob Siebert, was born May 4, 1902, at Grand Island, Nebraska and departed this life August 16, 1983, at the Mankato Hospital at the age of 81 years. He was raised by step father, August Mall whom his mother remarried when he was six years old. Henry came to Burr Oak in 1920, residing here until his death.

Henry was joined in marriage with Ethel Grace Pixler on August 18, 1924. To this loving union five children were born, Dearald Dean, William Lee, Louise Jeanne, Bobbie Wayne, and Joyce Anne. Henry was a drayman around Burr Oak for a number of years. He gave a helping hand to anyone in need. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carrie, and grandson, Randy Siebert.

He was a loving and compassionate husband and father. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Ethel of the home; children, Dearald and wife, Lucille of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Bill and wife, Myrna of Aloha, Oregon, Louise Greer and husband, Bob of Portland, Oregon, Bob and wife, Eileen of Overland Park, and Joyce Olena and husband, Lyle of Geneva, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Tillie Rogers of Loveland, Colorado; cousins, John Gietz and Ralph Gietz of Ravenna, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 19, at the Christian Church in Burr Oak with Reverend Russell Shoemaker officiating. Pallbearers were John Morris, Cleo Morris, Phil Cleveland, LaVon Ost, Gene Johnson, and J. L. Platt. Music was furnished by Marjorie Johnson. Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home, Mankato, was in charge of arrangements.

PIXLER, LAVERN JAMES

LaVern James Pixler was born November 13, 1905, to Jacob and Patsy Pixler at Burr Oak, Kansas, and passed away October 31, 1970 at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 14 days. He died suddenly of a heart attack while at work. He lived all his life in Burr Oak, Kansas.

He was married to Marie Sheard in 1929.

He had eight children: Marion, Veda, Olive, Doyle, Patricia, Eugene, Junior, and Neta. Mr. Pixler was preceded in death by his mother, father, four brothers, and two sisters.

He is survived by five sisters, Florene Baylie, Edith Hill, Ethel Siebert, Florence Valeka, and Gladys Applebee; one brother, Delbert Pixler; 22 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral Services were held November 3, 1970, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Mankato, Kansas, with the Rev. David Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Burr Oak Cemetery. BENNETT, JESSE FRANKLIN

Jesse F. Bennett was born Feb. 27, 1836, in Decatur county, Indiana, and died Nov. 18, 1911, in Jewell county, Kansas. He moved to Illinois when about ten years of age, and in 1873 he came to Kansas, settling in Jewell county, where he has lived ever since. He enlisted in the U.S. army Nov. 7, 1862, at Camp Butler, Ill., and became a member of the 118th Illinois regiment, Company H, serving to the end of the war, and for some time after. He was married Sept. 6, 1868, to Mary E. Adams. To them were born seven children. Mrs. Bennett and five of the children are now living: Charles and Myrtle, who are at home; Mrs. Theresa Simpson of Otego; Mrs. Jessie Metz of Mankato and Frank of Woodward, Okla. Two sisters, Mrs. Emma Welch of Bannock County, Ill,. and Mrs. Caroline Smith of Jewell, and one brother, John, of North Dakota, survive him. Bro. Bennett was converted in 1869 and united with the M.E. church, of which he has been a member, faithful and true, until called to his heavenly home, being a member at Bethel church at the time of his death. The children were all at the funeral which was held at Bethel Nov. 20, conducted by his pastor, Rev. W.A. VanGundy, and was attended by many relatives and friends who deeply mourn his departure. The burial was at the Mankato cemetery, the ceremony there being conducted by the G.A.R. and Bro. Bennett's pastor. (Jewell County Republican, November 24, 1911, submitted by Dale Bennett)

FLINN, EUNICE M.

Eunice M. Flinn, 94, Concordia, died Dec. 3, 1997, at Cheyenne Lodge Nursing Home in Jamestown.

She was born Jan. 12, 1903, in Dewey County, Okla., to Clement J. and Sylvia L. Motes Mann. She graduated from Beloit High School and then attended Fort Hays State College. She later taught several years in rural schools in Mitchell County. She was baptized Oct. 15, 1922, at the Christian Church in Beloit. She later attended the United Methodist Church in Jamestown and was a member of the United Methodist Women in Jamestown. On April 25, 1926, she married Raymond F. Flinn in Beloit. He died Aug. 24, 1970. Mrs. Flinn was among the persons who established the Four Korner Senior Center in Jamestown.

Survivors include two sons, Edwin Flinn and wife Mabel of Houston and Keith Flinn and wife Norma of Alvarado, Texas; two daughters, Theresa Tiemann and husband Glenn of Denver and Twila Buttery of Jamestown; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Iva Lee Flinn, an infant son, Randall Raymond Flinn, her parents, one sister and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Jones officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Prairie Cemetery, Randall.

Mrs. Mary E. Gunn Died Last Friday

Had Been a Reisdent of Jewell County 54 years; Funeral Sunday

The death of Mrs. Mary Ellen Gunn, an old resident of Jackson township, in Jewell county, occurred Friday Nov 14. She was 89 years, 8 months and 19 days of age.

Born in Putnam County, IL Feb. 25, 1858, she was Miss Mary Ellen Vale before her marriage to William W. Gunn on Oct. 16, 1879.

The couple began their married life in Great Bend, KS later moving to Jewell county and Mrs. Gunn lived on the present homesite 54 years.

Seven children were born to this union, all of whom are survivors. They are Chester C., Lucian L., Sadie H., William W., Ralph, Preston, and Marion E. Sadie and Marion are at home and the others are in the vicinity. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Preceeding her in death were her husband, six brothers, and one sister.

Mrs. Gunn was of the Quaker faith, having membership in the Clear Creek Friends church near McNabb, IL..

GUNN, CHESTER

Services Oct 19 for Chester Gunn

Funeral services were held at the William Gunn home Wednesday, Oct 19 for Charles Chester Gunn who passed away Oct 16, after a short illness in a Concordia Hospital at the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 15 days.

Mr. Gunn was born near Great Bend, KS and was the son of William and Mary E. Gunn. He grew to manhood in Jewell county and was a resident of Jewell and Republic counties most of his life. Mr. Gunn was a successful farmer, owning land in both of these counties. Since his retirement, he spent some time in California. For the past five years he has made his home with his brother, Will and his wife in Jewell county. He was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows Lodges.

He leaves to mourn his passing five brothers and one sister, Lucian, William, Ralph, and Preston of the home community, and Sarah K., and Marion of Goodland, KS, 15 nephews and nieces, and 18 grand nephews and nieces.

Services Tuesday for Ralph Gunn

Funeral services for Ralph Gunn, 80, a Repulic County retired farmer were held Tuesday forenoon at the United Methodist Church in Republic. Mr. Gunn died Saturday at the St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia.

Survivors are his wife Verda; six children, Robert and Charles Gunn, and Mrs. Darrell Birrell (Marilyn) of Republic, Merrill and Mrs. William Smith (Constance) of Camarillo, CA and Ralph Gunn Jr. of Long Beach, CA; 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and two brothers Will Gunn of Superior and Marion of Hemet, CA.

Preceeding him in death were his parents, one daughter, three brothers, and one sister.

Services Tuesday for Preston Gunn

Funeral services for Preston Gunn, 77, were held at the Megue-Price Funeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Gunn a lifetime reisdent of the Hardy community, died Saturday at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.

Survivors are his wife, Ellen, sons Steven of the home and Donald of Bertrand, NE; a daughter Mrs. Jack Skinner (Sandra) of Yankton, SD; a step-son Edward Gunn, Union, NE; three brothers, William W., of Superior Ralph R of Courtland and Marion E., of Hemet, CA and 8 grandchildren.

Webber Services for W.W. Gunn

Funeral services for W. W. Gunn, 84, were conducted at the Webber United Methodist Church Wednesday at 10 AM. Mr. Gunn died Sunday noon at the Nuckolls County Hospital after being hospitalized only a few hours.

Survivors are his wife Erma; 5 daughters, Mrs. Maurice Lawson (Bernice) of Penaloss, KS, Mrs. Marion Ault of Salina, Mrs, Toby Kramer (Kathleen) of Mankato, Mrs. Marvin McDill (Irene) of Bellville; and Mrs. Barney Crook (Evelyn) of Superior; 13 granchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
