(Observer Enterprise, Pleasanton, Linn, Kansas, July 13, 1961) Grandson In Jet Crash Lt. Jack D. Bishop, a navy fighter pilot, stationed at San Francisco, California discovered the engine of his F3H Demon afire immediately after taking off form the Alemeda Naval Air Station on a training flight, Thursday, July 6. He deliberately turned his burning jet away from the city of San Francisco before ejecting to safety in San Francisco Bay. He was at 550 feet altitude and on a course that would have taken the blazing aircraft right over San Francisco. Lt. is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Bishop of Coffeyville, Kansas and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. C.D Bishop and Mrs. Anna Staton of Pleasanton. transcribed by Judy Hall |
