LINN COUNTY, KANSAS

CATTLE

(The Kansas Standard, Mound City, Linn, Kansas, 27 July 1901)

Saturday morning Gib Buckles returned from Gove Country, where he and J.D. Moore, W.H. Bayless, D.K. Paddock, Rogers and others of Blue Mound township, went with a train load of cattle to put in pasture. They found pasture near Shields, on which they put 230 head of their cattle, but others went on to the Colorado line in hopes of being able to sell their cattle. The parties with their cattle left Blue Mound at about 10 o’clock A.M. and landed at Shields at 10 the next day, making a very quick trip. The train was made up as a special at Council Grove and was hurried through on almost passenger time. Gib says they found good grass and water but that in some parts of that country water is very scarce.
