Wiley L. Smith dies at Age 42 An Osawatomie business man, Wiley LaVerne Smith, 42, of Rte. 1, Osawatomie, died Saturday in St. Lukes Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. after a long illness. Final rites for Mr. Smith were held Monday in Eddy Funeral Home. Born May 11, 1934 in Parker, he was the son of Roy and Mary Tout Smith. He grew up and attended schools in Parker. Except for two years spent serving in the U.S. Army during 1954-56, he had lived in this area his entire life. He owned and operated Wiley's Body Shop, 641 Main St., before his death. On August 18, 1957, he married Leah Janette Adams in the United Methodist Church of Osawatomie. They were the parents of six children. Mr. Smith was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include the widow, Lean, and six children, David, Dale, Brenda, Donald, Becky and Douglas, all of the home; his father Roy L. Smith, Parker; five brothers, Junior Smith, Hamilton, Robert Smith, Paola, Richard Smith, Manhattan, Melvin Smith, Independence, Mo., and Wendell Smith, Miami, Okla.; and five sisters, Mrs. Bettye Spector, Raytown, Mo., Wanda Clark, Paola, Mrs. Rosalie Rues, Merriam, Mrs. Mary Sue Zimmerman, Scott AFB, Ill., and Mrs. Evelyn Clearwater, Topeka. Officiating at the services was the Rev. Hershel Lee. Music was provided by Mrs. Elaine Page and Mrs. Bessie Elkinton, accompanied by Mrs. John Dollar, organist. Pallbeares were Melville Page, Frank Page, William J. Page, Dale Page, James McCourt and I.B. Doerhoff. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.
