Welcome to Kansas Trails' Lyon County.   Our goal is helping you find your ancestors by placing data online for the Free use of all researchers.  We are proud to expand Kansas with Lyon County, providing our "experience" gained from years of researching our   ancestors and website hosting.  We want to hear about you and the   history of your ancestors from this beautiful State. We also need   contributions of your data, history and stories to make this a great place to research.  Everything is helpful: Obituaries, Biographies, Photos and County History, to name a few.

As data becomes available, we will put it online.  Information for the County of Lyon will be posted as fast as we can find, type and/or receive it.  We welcome your feedback and comments, and of course, your data contributions.

Organized in 1860, Lyon County's county seat is Emporia.  Named by the first Legislature,  Breckenridge, in honor of John C. Breckenridge, United States Senator from Kentucky, and who became Vice-President of the United States in 1856.   The name changed to Lyon, in honor of General Nathaniel Lyon, who was killed while in command of the Union Army at the battle of Wilson's creek, Missouri, August 10, 1861.

Lyon county area is 844 square miles.


Besides the cities listed, the communities of Lang, Merrick, Miller and  Plymouth lie within the boundaries of Lyon County.
