Raymond August Schlesener, 91, of rural Council Grove died Sunday, Feb. 19.
The family provided the following information.
He was called home to meet his savior.
Life began for Mr. Schlesener at his parent's farmhouse in rural Latimer. They later moved to Herington. Another
move was to rural Lincolnville. Being flooded our for several years at this location, his father vowed to find
the highest hill he could. In 1930, he traded for land in the Flint Hills which included the highest elevation
in Lyon County. Mr. Schlesener lived the remainder of his life on this ranch, spending the last two and a half
years at the Council Grove Healthcare Center.
Mr. Schlesener was baptized on July 5, 1914 at White City and confirmed with the verse from Matthew 26:14 on April
13, 1930. He was a charter member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Council Grove.
His marriage to Dorothy Carmen Marcella Stuewe occurred on Aug. 18, 1948 in Council Grove. She survives of the
home. Shortly after their marriage, at his wife's suggestion, he bought some Black Angus heifers from his uncle
George Schlesener.
Four daughters were born to the Schleseners; they survived and include: Rael Blubaugh and her husband Richard of
McPherson, Karen Calhoun of Allen, Carol Tiffany and her husband Steve of rural Council Grove, and Elizabeth Buller
and her husband Bradley of rural Council Grove.
Mr. Schlesener was call "Grandpa" by 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed, but we know he is truly in Paradise, and this comforts us until we meet him again in that
great, green pasture in Heaven, with Jesus smiling at us.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Council Grove, with burial
to follow in the Agnes City Cemetery, east of Council Grove in Lyon County. Mr. Schlesener will lie in state at
the Penwell-Gabel Council Grove Chapel, until 9 p.m. today, where the family and friends will gather from 7 to
9 tonight. To honor his life, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church

Martin Booth is to be
buried at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Admire Cemetery. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday at St.
Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Buckport, Maine.
Mrs. Booth died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at home in Ellsworth Maine.
The daughter of Jacob Their and Ida Mae Hausermann Martin, she was born Dec. 12, 1912, in Admire. She taught for
many years in a one-room Kansas schoolhouse. She was a lifelong member of the Parliament Club and a member of the
Kansas State Teachers Association.
Her survivors include Carlene Parsons of Ellsworth; a brother, Glenn Martin, and a sister, Meryl Mansfield, both
living in Kansas; and a grandson.
Her husband, Carl L. Booth, died in 1978. Two sisters, Mary Morris and Francis Bruce, and two brothers, Verne Martin
and Frank Martin, also died earlier.

Fitzgerald, 54, died
Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 22, 1951, in Pensacola, Fla., to Julius Bernard, Jr. and Bonneva Gertrude Powell Fitzgerald.
The family moved from Pensacola to Allen, Kansas. They later moved to Hutchinson in 1956 where Tim attended grade
school. They moved to Coffeyville in 1964 and he was a 1969 graduate of Field Kindley Memorial High School, Coffeyville.
He joined the United States Navy in 1969 and served four years in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged October of
1973.
He married Kristine Larsen Feb. 16, 1973, at the Pearl Harbor Submarine Base in Hawaii while they were both serving
in the U.S. Navy. After separation from the Navy they made their home in Coffeyville.
He attended the Coffeyville Vo-Tech where he completed the Building Trade Course.
He worked for the City of Coffeyville, Morrow Foundry, Union Street Meat Market, Kansas Matchplate, Templeton Woodworks.
He was co-owner of D and T Fencing with Doug Grayum. He later owned and operated Fitzgerald Industries Inc., Mound
Valley.
He attended Crossroads Community Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bingo, cooking and spending time with his
family.
Survivors include his wife, Kristine, of the home; his mother Bonneva G. Fitzgerald, Wichita; three daughters,
Jennifer Holman, Wichita, Heather Isle, Independence, Melissa Fitzgerald, Coffeyville; and seven grandchildren;
.
two sisters, Beverly Courington, Goddard, Patt Hutchison, Chanute; a brother, Jim Fitzgerald, Hohenwal, Tenn.;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Michael D. Fitzgerald.
Visitation is 1 to 8 p.m. today at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville.
Funeral will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Crossroads Community of Christ Church RLDS, 3906 CR 2600 Rural
Coffeyville, with Pastor Marjorie Miller officiating.
Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the Allen Cemetery, north of Emporia.

95, of Wamego, KS, passed away Friday evening November 2, 2007 at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center in Wamego.
She was born on January 2, 1912, in Allen, Kansas, the daughter of Harry W. and Elma L. (Conrad) Leavell. On September
1, 1928, Betty married Merle D. Simmons in Emporia, Kansas. Merle preceded her in death in 1975.
Her survivors include: her daughters, Carol Bryson,Wamego, KS, Judith Boline, Gardner, KS, and Susan Partridge,
Wamego, KS; her sons, Lawrence Simmons, Wichita, KS, Bruce Simmons, Olney, TX, and David Simmons, Blytheville,
AR; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, burial following

Fred LeRoy Brown Sr.,
91, of Osage City died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at the Osage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Osage City.
Mr. Brown farmed, was an automobile mechanic and an oil field construction worker before he retired.
The son of Louis F. Edith E. Smith Brown, he was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Americus. His first marriage, to Grace
V. Duncan, ended in divorce.
He married Jewel Longshore Pope on June 28, 1969, in Strong City. She survives.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Vassar.
He is also survived by two daughters, Josephine G. Williams of Emporia and Lorene A. Anliker of Madison; a son,
Fred L. Brown Jr., of Montrose, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Judith A. O'Brien of Ada, Okla., and Leona K. Whisenhont
of Stratford, Okla.; two stepsons, Clyve L. Pope of Cherokee and James R. Pope of Gillette, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren;
two stepgrandchildren; and many great- and stepgreat-grandchildren.
A son, Phillip Lee Brown, died earlier, as did six brothers and two sisters.
The funeral, conducted by the Rev. Niles Lloyd of the Trinity Baptist Church, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the
Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia.

Mr. Buxton, 1527 Sherwood Way, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, as the result of an electrical-line accident in Kenner,
La., where he was working to repair damage from Hurricane Katrina. He was 27.
He was born Feb. 4, 1978, in Wichita to Samuel Allen and Janet L. Middleton Buxton. He was a 1996 graduate of Emporia
High School and earned a degree in electric power and distribution from the Manhattan Area Technical College in
2001. In May 2003, he was inducted into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, joining Local 57 in
Salt Lake City. In July of this year, he transferred his membership to Local 304 in Topeka.
At the time of his death, he was a lineman for PAR Electric Contractors of Kansas City, Mo., his employer for the
past two years. Previously, he had worked for two years for Hastco Construction in Emporia and for six months in
2002, he worked for Alaska Village Electric Cooperative.
Mr. Buxton is survived by his mother, Janet Jefferis, and her husband, Jan, of Emporia; his father, who lives in
Oklahoma City; a brother, Luke Buxton of Emporia; and grandparents Gene and Ruby Middleton of El Dorado.
Grandparents Jason Buxton and Pamela Wagner died earlier.

J. Coleman Jr., 55,
Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wakarusa Valley School with the Rev. Nick Shaffer and the Rev. Robert

Mr. Coleman died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1992, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital shortly after collapsing at Wakarusa Valley
School.
He was born July 20, 1937, in Hay Springs, Neb., the son of Ernest J. and Alzina Luella Gillette Coleman. He graduated
from Sandridge Grade School and from Hay Springs High School.
Mr. Coleman became part-time principal of Wakarusa Valley School in 1985 and full-time principal in 1991. He originally
joined the Lawrence school district in 1971 as director of federal programs, and he continued in that role part-time
during the years he was part-time principal at Wakarusa Valley.
Coleman also had served as federal revenue consultant for Douglas County from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s.
Coleman's first position in education was in Ashby, Neb., where he worked in a one-room country school. All his
other positions were in Kansas.
He was a teacher and coach in Haviland before serving as a teacher, principal and coach in Lincolnville. Coleman
then served as superintendent of schools in Eskridge from 1965-68, and he was superintendent of schools and high
school principal in Spring Hill from 1968-71.
He attended Chadron State College, Chadron, Neb., and graduated in 1960 from Friends University, Wichita. He earned
a master's degree from Emporia State University and worked on a doctorate at Kansas University.
Mr. Coleman was a member of Lawrence Friends Church. He also was involved with Youth for Christ, the O'Connell
Youth Ranch, the Lawrence school district's Indian Education program, the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence and the
Gideons.
He married Hazel Sparks on Aug. 16, 1960, in Emporia. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Candi Coleman and Chris Self, both of Lawrence; three sons, Craig Coleman,
Sarasota, Fla., Dennis Hanlon, Fairview, Okla., and Edward Hamilton, Iola; his father, Ernest J. Coleman Sr., Emporia;
four sisters, Elsie Cate, Raymond, N.H., Rose Eckert, Fremont, Neb., Anne Wadsworth, Aumsville, Ore., and Ruth
Stone, Eudora; five brothers, William, Central City, Neb., Ralph, Topeka, John, Tigard, Ore., James, Broken Arrow,
Okla., and Steve, Emporia; and two grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Friends Church in care of the church or Rumsey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Combes, a homemaker, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the Holiday Resort.
The daughter of Edd and Anna Mohr Strode, she was born March 2, 1906, in Cuba, Ill. She married Ray T. Combes Sr.
on Aug. 23, 1922. He died in 1976.
She grew up as a member of the United Brethren Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Nelda Swan of Emporia and Lois Barton of Ulysses; two sons, Ray Combes Jr. of
Olpe and Harlan Combes of Wheatridge, Colo.; a sister, Elizabeth Doyle of Litchfield, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren;
48 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, six sisters, two grandsons and one great-granddaughter died earlier.

A longtime Emporia resident, Margaret Donovan,
died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Newman Regional Health. She was 89.
The family attended a private service today in Cottonwood Cemetery.
Margaret Brooks was born July 3, 1913, in Marshallton, Del., to Walter and Pearl Gray Brooks. She grew up in Wilmington,
Del., and attended Wilmington High School. She married William W. Donovan on Jan. 6, 1945, in Wilmington. He died
Jan. 8, 1982.
A daughter, Florence S. Bryan, and a grandson also died earlier.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Tammy Davisson of Emporia, and two great-grandchildren.

Former Neosho Rapids resident Clara L. Holdeman,
86, of Emporia died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at the Emporia Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Holdeman was a homemaker.
Clara L. Jackson, the daughter of Ernest E. Edna Done Jackson, was born April 28, 1917, in Elmdale. She married
Charles H. Holdeman on April 12, 1936. They were divorced.
Mrs. Holdeman is survived by a daughter, Alice Garrison of Emporia; a son, Donald Holdeman of Topeka; a half brother,
Ernest Jackson Jr. of Emporia; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Two half brothers, James Jackson and Robert Jackson, died earlier.
There are no services planned.

VERA MARGUERITE MOON, 81, of 3716 N. Athenian Court, retired teacher, died Saturday, June 27, 1987.

The graveside service for Ed "E.L." Morgan, 82, a resident of the Holiday Resort, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Cottonwood Cemetery.
The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions to the Sertoma Miniature Train at Soden's Grove Fund or the Emporia Friends of the Zoo may

Mr. Morgan died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the care center.
He was an engineer with the Santa Fe Railroad for 40 years before he retired on April 11, 1983.
The son of Cyrus and Orpha Kinsey Morgan, he was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Cedar Point. He married Esther Arlene
Baker on April 26, 1942, in Clements. She died May 21, 1996, in Emporia.
Mr. Morgan was a member of the Flint Hills Christian Church. He also was a member of the Civilian Conservation
Corps and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
He is survived by two sons, Larry D. Morgan and Ron J. Morgan, both of Emporia; two daughters, Penny Morgan of
Emporia and Debbie Allen of Richland, Mo.; three brothers, Harold Morgan of Wichita, Clarence Morgan of Kansas
City, Mo., and Clifford G. Morgan of Canyon City, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
An infant son, three sisters, three brothers and a grandson died earlier.
