Nettie Martha Metilda Renata Schroeder Kettner

The funeral for Mrs. Julius C. Kettner, 92, a resident of the Holiday Resort, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the
Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Norbert Tegtmeier of the Messiah Lutheran Church will conduct the service.
Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Kettner died May 14, 1995, at the Holiday Resort. Memorial contributions
to the church may be sent to the funeral home.
Nettie M. Schroeder, the daughter of John T. and Regina Rathke Schroeder, was born Oct. 10, 1902, in rural Olpe.
She married Julius C. Kettner in 1925 at Olpe. He died in 1979. Mrs. Kettner was a member of the Messiah Lutheran
Church.
She is survived by two sons, Wilbert E. Kettner of Lee's Summit, MO., and Eugene J. Kettner of Huntington Beach,
Calif.; a daughter, Evelyn D. Jansen of Glen Burnie, Md.; a niece she reared from the age of 2 1/2 years, Barbara
Rhoads of Emporia; two sisters, Leona Ohm and Gladys Davis of Emporia; and 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grandson. Six brothers and a sister died earlier.

Julius C. Kettner, 915 Prairie St., died this morning at St. Mary's Hospital. He had lived in Lyon County most
of his life. He farmed southwest of Olpe for 35 years and moved to Emporia in 1951. Mr. Kettner was a custodian
at Emporia High School and William Allen White grade school before his retirement in 1960.Services in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett
Funeral Home will be held Monday at 10 A.M. and burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The services will be
conducted by Rev. A. R. Aschbrenner, pastor of the Messiah Lutheran Church.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Lyon County Heart Fund. They may directed to the funeral
home.
Julius C. Kettner, son of Julius and Martha Bohre Kettner, was born in Westphalia Nov. 30, 1897. He married Nettie
Schroeder in Olpe on Oct. 31, 1925, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Wilbert Kettner of Lee's Summit,
MO., Eugene Kettner of Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Evelyn Jansen, Glen Burnie, Md., and Barbara Rhoads,
Neosho Rapids; three sisters, Martha Schroeder, 5 South Merchant St., Sophie Schroeder, 511 Cottonwood St., and
Louise Wagner, Los Angeles, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
six brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter.Mr. Kettner was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church.
Ellis, David Edward, 1 1/2-month-old son of Jodi Lyn Ellis Martin, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 1994. Service 10:30
a.m. Tuesday, Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
Other survivors: grandparents, Margaret Martin of Emporia, Edward Ellis of Colorado Springs; great-grandmother,
Violet Cowan of Emporia. Memorial has been established with Emporia Friends of the Zoo.

Mrs. W. H. Curtin Dead.
Mrs. W. H. Curtin died last night at 10:10 o'clock of paralysis, at her home, 109 Merchant, after an illness of
one week.
Mary Frances Huffman was born February 25, 1859, in Harrison county, Mo. She was married in 1876 to W. H. Curtin.
Mr. and Mrs. Curtin came to Kansas twenty-five years ago, of which time they have lived four years in Emporia.
Mrs. Curtin is survived by her husband and eight children, Mrs. Lillie Rhoades, Mrs. Bessie Bavis, of Hartford;
Mrs. Beals, and Miss Ethel Curtin of Emporia; J. Curtin, of Pittsburg; J.R. Curtin, of Kansas City; S. A. Curtin,
and Bert Curtin of Emporia. Mrs. Curtin was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Funeral services will be held at the house tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, by Rev. J. B. Mackenzie. Interment will
be made immediately after the services, in Maplewood Cemetery.

The funeral of Mrs. Curtin.
The funeral of Mrs. W. H. Curtin, was held yesterday morning at 10:00 o'clock, at the home 109 Merchant Street.
Rev. J. B. Mackenzie officiated. Music was furnished by Miss Katherin Hammond, Miss Lizzie Thomas, Joe Hammond,
and J. B. Mackenzie. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Darr, Routt, Larkin, Smith, Martin and Brady. Many friends were
in attendance, and a number followed the body to Maplewood Cemetery, where it was interred.

Death of I. A. Rhoades.
Died, at about 3 o'clock p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 1896, I. A. Rhoades after suffering for three years with kidney
trouble, at his homr in the east part of Hartford.
I. A. Rhoades was born in Highland county, Ohio, May 9, 1822, and was therefore a little over 74 years of age.
He was one of a family of 23 children. His father was married twice, 11 children being born to him by the first
wife and 12 by the second. The deceased was married to Mary Ann East in 1846 and in 1851 moved to Greene County,
Iowa, where they were blessed with a family of 8 children- 5 boys and 3 girls, 5 of whom are living, three of them
in Hartford, Mrs. Alice Collins, Mrs. Lue Thomas and Fred Rhoades, one in Canada, Asa Rhoades and one in Utah,
Samuel Rhoades.
Mr. Rhoades moved from Iowa to Kansas in 1879, where he has lived ever since.
He was a member of the German Lutheran church having joined in 1844. He was the tenth child by his father's first
wife and his death leaves only two of the 23 brothers and sisters living.
Funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. R. Rice, after which the
remains were buried in Hartford cemetery.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in this their sad bereavement.

Mrs. Mary Rhoads Dead.
The remains of Mrs. Mary Rhoads, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Collins, in Topeka, last Friday,
Dec. 21, 1928, were brought to this place Saturday afternoon and laid to rest in the Hartford cemetery by the side
of her husband. Short funeral services were held at the grave conducted by Rev. E. A. Hughes, pastor of the Methodist
church.
Mary Ann East was born August 1, 1827, in Lynchburg, Va. Was married to Issac Rhoads in 1844. To this union eight
children were born, five of whom survive, as follows, S. F. Rhoads, of Pasadena, Calif., A. C. Rhoads, of Bakersfield,
Calif., Fred Rhoads, of Hartford, Kans; Mrs. C. C. Campbell of Lebo, Kans., and Mrs. J. E. Collins, of Topeka,
Kans. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.
With her husband she came to Western Kansas in 1880, and to Hartford in 1886, where they reamined until Mr. Rhoads'
death in 1896. After that time she resided with her son, Fred Rhoads, until four years ago, when she went to Topeka
to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Collins.
During her girlhood Mrs. Rhoads was a member of the Quaker church. She lived a long and useful life and lacked
but a few years of rounding out a century. She was aged 96 years, 4 months and 20 days.

LOE, BESSIE MARIE ~~~ NOTE: Burial is in Louisiana although she has a stone in Kansas
Bessie Marie Laird Loe, a retired motel manager, died Thursday at Lakeview
Regional Medical Center. She was 95. Ms. Loe was born in Kansas and lived in Sun for the past three years. Survivors
include her sister, Agnes Cashman. A graveside service will be held today at 10 a.m. Burial will be in First Baptist
Church Cemetery of Sun. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Korbin Andrew Thomas, the son of Jason Andrew Jr. and Rebekah Tollett Thomas,
704B Eastgate Plaza, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. He was one month and 29 days old.
Korbin was born July 7, 2007, in Emporia.
He is survived by his parents and two sisters, Natalie Thomas and Olivia Thomas of the home; his grandparents,
Mary Ann and Robert Richardson of Melvern, David and Cheryl Tollett of Emporia, Colleen Schindler of Post Falls,
Idaho, and Jason Andrew Thomas Sr. of California; great-grandparents, Helen Lambertson of Lawrence, Gene and Barb
Rhoads of Emporia and Wayne and Barbara Tollett of Neosho Rapids; and his great-great-grandmother, Josephine Thomas
of Paola.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Mic McGuire of the Grace
United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to Emporia Friends of the Zoo may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia,
