Obituary from The Coffeyville Kansas Journal, Friday March 8, 1901. Page 5:

Mrs Schockey was buried in the Robbins Cemetery last Sunday. She was stricken with paralysis Friday morning and died Saturday. Mr and Mrs Shockey came here in the early days and have worked here together getting their home in good shape to spend a pleasant old age in but the wife and mother received the summons "Come up higher" and with bleeding hearts those who remain can only say "surely what He wills is best." CLEM, LAURA ELLEN

Laura Ellen Clem was born July 20, 1891 near Independence, Kansas, where she grew to womanhood, spending her school days at White Post and was a student of Montgomery county High School. On January 8, 1913 she went to Colorado Springs for her health which failed her. She came back April 17, and passed away April 25. She leaves a mother, three sisters and four brothers to mourn her loss.

The deceased was one of Montgomery county’s successful teachers and a young woman of much promise. She joined the Methodist church two years ago and lived a Christian life ever since. Her untimely end is mourned by a large circle of friends. (Independence Reporter, May 2, 1913, submitted by Judy Mayfield)
