MANNING, ISABEL

Coffeyville - Isabel Manning, 82, of Coffeyville, died Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Continuous Care Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of the Nazarene and burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Coffeyville. Friends can call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Burns Chapel in coffeyville, with the family receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

She was born Dec 26, 1925 in Watervalley, Tenn. the daughter of Rev Fred C. and Martha Ann (Gardner) Bain. She attended school in Erin, Tenn. After graduation she studied theology at Trevecca Nazaene College in Nashville, Tenn. She married Ralph Manning on Dec 20, 1946 in Erin. They made their home in Nashville, later in Independence and moved in 1958 to Coffeyville.

From 1965, Mrs. Manning was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Coffeyville. She served in various positions, including as a Caravan director for three years and a Caravan worker for another two years. She and Mr. Manning traveled in various locations for their church. In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include her daughters the Rev. Vivian J. Versaw, of Greer's Ferry, Arkansas and Joy Ann M. Manning, as well as four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

MARTIN, MARGARET

Mrs. Margaret MARTIN, 84, died yesterday morning at her home in Coffeyville. She had been in poor health the past two years, but had been seriously ill only a few days. She has lived in Coffeyville 54 years. Survivors include three son, Louis E. Martin, Coffeyville, Charles Martin, Cheyenne, Wyo, and John Martin, rural Coffeyville; a daughter, Mrs. Maude Martin FRANCIS, Coffeyville, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. MARTIN, THURSA ANNA

Mrs. Thursa Anna Martin died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. F. Riley in Neodesha. She had been in failing health for several months. MARTIN, ULYSSES G.

Death Claims U.G. Martin

Funeral Service to be Held Tuesday.

Ulysses G. Martin, 75, long-time resident of this vicinity, died at 2:45 yesterday afternoon at Mercy hospital. He had been slowly failing in health for several years and Wednesday, he was taken to the hospital suffering with a stroke which proved fatal.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. John D. Dambach in the absence of the Rev. M.J. Casey, will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock at St. Andrew's church. Rosary will be said at the Potts chapel at 7:30 tonight. Interment will be in St. Andrew's cemetery northeast of the city.

The deceased was born on Nov. 11, 1868, in Indiana. Later, he became a resident of Longton. on August 16, 1897, he was united in marriage to Lucy Ellen Fitzmaurice of Elk City. Since that time, they had been residents of Southeastern Kansas, living at their home north of Independence for years. Mrs. Martin died last Sept. 21

MATLOCK, GERALDINE

Mrs. Geraldine Matlock - A dark gloom was cast over our community when it was learned that on Friday, January 14, 1967,

Geraldine Marie Matlock was called from her earthly home by the angel of death. Private graveside services were held at 3: p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Noekamp Funeral Home. Mrs. Matlock was born August 13, 1924 to Jim and Hazel Schierlman. She was raised and received her education in Cherryvale, Kansas. During World War 11, Gerry worked in the war effort as a riveter in an airplane factory in Kansas City. She married William Dale Matlock in Kansas City on April 2, 1945. They made their home in Bartlesville. Gerry worked at Jane Phillips Hospital as a nurse's assistant until she retired in 1980.

Survivors include two daughters, Diana Childs of Grove and Carol Dodge of Bartlesville, one son Command Sergeant Major Denny Matlock of Walpaliu, Hawaii, three grandchildren, Derek Dodge, Matt Dodge and Darcie Childs; and two brothers, Pete Schierlman of Independence, KS and Butch Schierlman of Cherryvale, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Doc. She told her friends and loved ones she was ready to go and wanted them to meet her in a better world. Mrs. Mattock was a kind and loving woman. She left many friends and loved ones to mourn her 'loss. But God is constantly gathering his loved ones home and death leaves a shining mark. May we all live so that when we are done with the trials and conflicts of this life, we will be ready to meet her on the shore where partings will be no more. (Submitted by Freda Webb)

Long Time County Resident Is Dead

Miss Elizabeth McGugin Dies At Farm Home.

Miss Elizabeth McGugin, 73, died at 11:30 this morning at her home seven miles southwest of Independence after an illness of a year and a half.

She had lived on the farm where her death occurred for 52 years, coming here from Granville, Ohio, her birthplace. A sister, Mrs. Mary Hallihan, had lived with her for many years.

Besides Mrs. Hallihan she is survived by two brothers, Frank McGugin, Cleveland, Ohio, and Walter McGugin, Longton.

Funeral services will be held at the Jackson Funeral chapel Thursday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. J.T. Bays.

Death Claims Albert Miller; Dies at Home of Brother After Long Illness

Albert E. Miller, 67, brother of Fred H. Miller, died at his brother's home, 1605 West Maple this morning at 1:00 o'clock of an illness that had kept him in poor health for the past 14 years. He had been in Mercy hospital for the last five weeks until Saturday when he was returned to the home. He was born June 4, 1876 near Quincy, Ill. His parents, Wm. George and Mary Miller are both deceased. he residedi n Paola, Kansas for seven years until he moved to Chanute at the age of 27 where he worked as a carpenter until he came to Independence a year ago. It was in Paola that he met and married Maggie sherman on July 4, 1903. She died ten years ago. They at one time lived in Kansas City before moving to Chanute. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Mary Rutledge, address unknown; Mrs. Henriette Olson, chanute, Mrs. Frieda Townsend, Chanute, Miss Alberta Miller, Kansas City, three sons, Sherman Miller, Kansas City, Robert Miller, Kansas city, Albert Jr., Joplin, Mo. Four brothers, survive, Charles, Los Angeles, Calif., Fred, Independence, George, Independence and William, Kansas city.

MILLER, BERNETTA (MRS. MARION M.)

Funeral Wednesday.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bermetta MILLER, wife of Marion M. Miller of Longton, who was fatally injured in an automobile collision near Plant City, Fla., late Thursday afternoon, will be held at the Congregational church in Longton at two o'clock on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Crosby will be in charge. Interment will be made in the Longton cemetery. The body was returned yestereday from Tampa, where Mr. and Mrs. Miller were going to attend an international assembly of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Miller suffered a few minor bruises and scratches. Mrs. Miller was a past grand matron of the grand chapter of the Order of the Star in Kansas. James Miller Dies Suddenly at Longton.

James Miller, about 55, assistant cashier of the Home State bank, died suddenly shortly after noon today at his home in Longton. A heart attack was believed to be the cause of death.

Miller had gone home for lunch after working as usual at the bank in the morning. He had complained of feeling ill during the past few days, according to bank officials.

He is survived by a wife only.

Mrs. Joyce W. Miller Dies This Afternoon.

Mrs. Juanita Miller, 30, wife of Joyce W. Miller, vocational agriculture instructor in the Independence high school, died at 12:50 this afternoon in Mercy hospital of pneumonia following childbirth. A son had been born to her yesterday morning.

Mr. Miller, who was raised in Sycamore and who attended the local high school came her to teach vocational agriculture during the last few weeks of the preceding school year from Manhattan where he had been one of the supervisors of high schools which teach vocational agriculture. Funeral Services Friday For Mrs. Joyce Miller.

Funeral services for Mrs. Juanita Lorena Miller, wife of Joyce Miller, of Sycamore, who died yesterday afternoon in Mercy hospital, will be held at 3:30 Friday afternoon at the Webb Funeral home with Dr. David McCleave of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Mrs. Miller, who was formerly Miss Juanita Shields of Lost Springs, Ias., attended Kansas State college at Manhattan and had a teachers certificate. She taught two years at Hymer, Kansas.

On July 21, 1935, she was united in marriage to Joyce Miller, at the home of her father, J.B. Shields, in Lost Springs. Her mother was not living at the time.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller then made their home in Manhattan for about two and a half years, lived in Council Grove for three years, in Neodesha for two years, and were living on a farm near Sycamore at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Holiness church in Neodesha for Joseph B. MILLS, retired refinery empolye who died Friday afternoon at the Wilson County hospital. MOORE, MARGARET M

Cherryvale - Margaret M. Moore, 70, of 523 W. 2nd, died at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, 24 December 1992, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where she had been a patient since Dec. 18. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob McGuire, of Andover, officiating. Interment will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the Darling and Burns chapel from noon until 8 p.m. Sunday, and fromn 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday. They may call at the church after noon on Monday. The family suggest memorials to the First Baptist church and they may be left at the church office or funeral home.
Mrs. Moore was born Sept 22, 1922 at Cherryvale, to Henry L. and Mable (Barker) Mishler. she graduated from Cherryvale High School and then worked for the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons. She later worked for Swift's Packing Plant, Fred Ronalds Manufacturing Plant in Parsons, and Lee's Garment Factory in Cherryvale. On Feb 9, 1947 at Oswego, she married Buck Moore and he survives. Mrs. Moore was a member of the First Baptist Church. Other survivors include three sons, Dale Mishler, Independence, James L. Moore, Americus, and Ronald D. Moore, Humboldt; two daughters, Sharon Stangle, Thayer, and Carol Renfro, Fredonia. 15 grandchildren, 6 brothers, Harold and Francis Mishler, cherryvale, Frank Mishler, Emporia, Carl Mishler, Independence, Arthur Mishler, Neodesha and Harry Mishler, Wichita; five sisters, Betty Pogue, San Antonio, Texas, Thelma Richardson, Cherryvale, Dorothy Cole, Des Moines, Iowa, Helen Fleenor, Winfield, and Ruth Mishler of Coffeyville.

Graveside Services Held

Graveside services were held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock for Donna Lee Morgan, who died at birth Thursday night at 10:50 o'clock in Mercy hospital. She was the daughter of Perry Lee and Mary O. Morgan. Survivors include her mother, Mary, the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Henderson and Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Purvis. The father preceded her in death one month ago. MORGAN, PERRY

Perry Morgan Succumbs.
Death Follows Operation On Fractured Jaw.

Perry Lee Morgan, age 30, passed away at a Wichita hospital where he was taken yesterday morning for an operation on a fractured jaw sustained in an automobile mishap a week ago. death was attributed to shock from the operation. Mr. Morgan was employed at the local air field for the Jones Construction Co., until July 7.

He was born in Carterville, Mo., Jasper county, on April 19, 1913. With his family he came to Eureka, Kas., in 1926. He graduated from the high school at Howard and from the junior college in Independence. Having spent one year in the army during the present war, he was dismissed with an honorable medical discharge after an operation in September, 1941. He was united in marriage on August 29, 1942, in Independence to Mary Ola Henderson of this city.
Survivors are as follows: his wife of the home; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Purvis of Neodesha; two sisters, Truley Saylor of Liberty and Lutie Jay of Eureka; one brother, Carol Morgan of Foley, Ala. His father, John Morgan and one brother, Richard Morgan preceded him in death.

Funeral rites will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Webb Funeral chapel with the Rev. Leonard Birkin, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery. (The Independence Daily Reporter, Tuesday, July 13, 1943, transcribed by Jim Laird)

Mrs. Ellla Morris Dead

Mrs. Ella Morris, 62, wife of J.P. Morris of Coffeyville, died Thursday night at her home following an illness of two months. Besides her husband, she is survived by nine children. Funeral services were held this afternon at the Skinner Funeral home in Coffeyville with the Rev. Joseph D. Boyd in charge. Interment was in the Liberty cemetery.
