WEINBERG, WILMA AILEEN ALTER

Wilma Aileen Alter Weinberg, 91, of Lawrence, Kansas and long time resident of Coffeyville, Kansas died Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence, Kansas.

She was born October 7, 1918 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Max and Ann (Cohen) Alter.

Mrs. Weinberg was a homemaker and had worked at Weinberg’s Western Wear, a family business, in Coffeyville, Kansas.

She was married to Maurice Weinberg on February 11, 1940 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2005.

She is survived by three sons, Jeff Weinberg and wife Mary, of Lawrence, Kansas, Thomas Weinberg of Haiku, Hawaii, and Michael Weinberg of Grove, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010, with Father Jerry Adinolfi officiating, at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel followed with interment in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. JORDAN, MARY ELLEN


Mary Ellen Jordan, 86, Coffeyville, Kansas, died Sunday morning, February 7, 2010 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

Mary Ellen was born May 7, 1923 in Kay County, Oklahoma, just north of Enid, to Frederick G. Lemasters and J Birdeen (Lowry) Lemasters. She began her schooling in Mulvane, Kansas, but graduated from Independence High School in 1941 and the next year attended Independence Community College. Mary Ellen worked for Civil Service from 1942-1947. She attended classes at Vance Air Force Base in Enid and help start the Army Air Base in Independence. On December 23, 1945, Mary Ellen married William D. Jordan, Sr. at Independence. Mr. Jordan preceded his wife in death April 19, 1989. In February of 1948, she went to work for Gilmore Insurance, retiring in 1988 as office manager and agent. After the death of her husband, Mary Ellen went to work part-time for Newkirk, Dennis & Buckles Insurance. She was a member of Coffeyville’s First United Methodist Church, the VFW Auxiliary and Women’s Bowling Association. Mary Ellen was an avid bowler well into her 80s.

Survivors are one son, William D. Jordan, Jr. and his wife, L. Diane of Pleasanton, Kansas; one granddaughter, Nicole A. Lowe and her husband, Brian of Prescott, Kansas; two great-grandchildren, Dakota Brian Lowe and Brialee Nicole Lowe; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband and by two brothers and a sister.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at Coffeyville’s Restlawn Cemetery with Rev. J. Collins officiating. Service and interment are under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, 9 am-8 pm. HAGEBUSCH, CATHEY ANN (JOSEPH)

Cathey Ann (Joseph) Hagebusch, 53, of Coffeyville, Kansas died Friday, February 5, 2010 at her home, following a long battle with cancer. She was born August 24, 1956 in Coffeyville to Garnet L. and Shirley A. (Thurman) Joseph. Cathey attended Coffeyville Public Schhols and later the Vocational Technical School in Coffeyville and Coffeyville Community College. In December of 1971 she married David Martin of Coffeyville and they had a son Justin. The couple divorced and in 1978 Cathey was married briefly to Allen Wooten of Duncan, Oklahoma. After many years of being single she married Carl Hagebusch Sr. on August 2, 1991 at the Central Church of the Nazarene.

As a child Cathey was a Brownie Scout, Girl Scout and Rainbow Girl. She attended The First Church of the Nazarene. Cathey had a big heart, sense of humor, joy for life and loved adventure. She enjoyed her pets, traveling, camping, yard sales and riding motorcycles. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her grandchildren and nephews. Cathey worked at many jobs during her lifetime including several years as office manager and driver for the family trucking company Flying H Hotshot of Coffeyville. She retired in 2002 due to her declining health. She was assistant secretary for the BTW Brothers of the ‘Third Wheel”, a three wheel motorcycle club that she belonged to.

Cathey was preceded in death by her father in 1975. She is survived by her husband Carl of the home, her mother and stepfather Bob and Shirley Imoe, son Justin Martin, grandchildren Megan, Wyatt and Allyson Martin, stepchildren Carl Hagebusch Jr. and wife Nicole, step-grandchildren Lindsay and Jaden and Lakrisha Hagebusch, brother David Joseph and wife Laura, nephews Matthew and Brandon, all from Coffeyville.

Funeral services for Cathey Ann Hagebusch will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Coffeyville First Church of Nazarene followed by interment in Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville. She will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Coffeyville on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm. The family will receive guests at the Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to sign the guest register. The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice Care of Kansas and may be left at the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Coffeyville is in charge of arrangements. ELDER, WANDA ELAINE

Wanda Elaine Elder, 85, Coffeyville, Kansas, died early Thursday morning, February 4, 2010 at Windsor Place Care Center.

Wanda was born August 7, 1924 at Toledo, Ohio to Albert Phillips and Ethel Marie (Lybarger) Phillips. She grew up in Toledo and graduated high school, there. Wanda met Donald Elder, while he was stationed in Toledo for his military service. The couple married in 1942 at Blackwell, Oklahoma and continued to live there for a short time, before moving to Coffeyville in 1945. Mr. Elder preceded his wife in death in 1993.

Wanda was all about her family, enjoying her children and grandchildren. She also loved poetry and several of her own poems had been published. Wanda was a member of Coffeyville’s Bible Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher there for almost 30 years.

Survivors include five children, Deanna Fain and her husband, Don of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jane Dougan and her husband, Dan of Coffeyville, Patty Chinsethagid and her husband, Mattee of Tulsa, Steve Elder and his wife, Becky of Coffeyville and Lisa Elder of Tulsa; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; by a daughter, Elaine Russell and by two brothers, Robert and Donald Phillips.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Pastor Daniel Knight officiating. Interment will be in Coffeyville’s Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1-5 p.m. and Wanda’s family will receive guests from 3-5. KITTERMAN, ROY

Roy Kitterman, 72, Coffeyville, Kansas died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Windsor Place Care Center. Roy was born April 22, 1937 at Longton, Kansas to Jess Kitterman and Delphia (Hembree) Kitterman. He married Delores "Dee" Ortiz on June 30, 1972. Roy was a welder for Farmland Refinery, from which he retired. He enjoyed fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Dee, of the home; children, Chris Cravens and her husband, Charlie of Winfield, Kansas, Tina Alvidrez and her husband, David of Coffeyville, Charley Laporte and his wife, Kristi of Pleasanton, Kansas, Maria Hensley and her husband, Terry of Coffeyville, Debi LaPorte Calonder of Independence, Kansas, Cindy Simon and husband Kevin of Excelsior springs, Missouri and Randy Kitterman of Coffeyville; brothers, Jessie Kitterman & his wife, Berniece of Yakima, Washington and Johnie Kitterman and wife, Donna of Winfield; 17 grandkids; six great-grandchildren and special cousins, Don & Verlie Graham of Caney, Kansas. Preceding Roy in death are both parents and a granddaughter, Sydney Tracy.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns chapel with Rev. Mark Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Coffeyville's Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday, with family there to receive friends from 6-8 p.m.. JONES, EDNA COLLEEN

Edna Colleen Jones, 78 died sunday, January 31, 2010 at her home in Coffeyville, Kansas. Edna was born January 14, 1932 at South Coffeyville, Oklahoma to Edward Billups and Minnie (Lovett) billups. She grew up in South Coffeyville, attending South Coffeyville and Lenapah Schools. Edna married Charles Crum on February 11, 1950. The couple later divorced. She lived in Great Bend and Hutchinson, Kansas. While in Hutchinson, she met and married Chuck Johnson on May 2, 1975. Mr. Johnson preceded his wife in death on May 19, 1991. Edna would marry Arthur Jones on February 14, 1998. She lived in Caney, Kansas before moving to Coffeyville in 2002. Edna was dedicated to her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her many friends at Pickwick Place.

Survivors include two daughters, Diana McLean of Nowata, Oklahoma, Martha Terry and her husband, Bob of South Coffeyville; a son, Gary Crum of Nowata; one sister, Mary Hoppock of Coffeyville; five granddaughters, Kassidy Stubbs and her husband, Michael of Salina, Kansas, Leeann Hoff and her husband, Jason of Independence, Missouri, Crystal Baugh of Little Rock, Arkansas, Stacey Brittian and Stefine Harbold of Hutchinson, Kansas; one grandson, Jeffrey Terry of Mayflower, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Kaleb, Kolton and Kemberlynn Stubbs, Jason Hoff, Julia and T. J. Baugh, Alexis and Abby Terry; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, by one husband, Chuck Johnson; by two sons, Barry and Ira Crum; by a daughter Brenda Crum; by three brothers, Robert, Billy and Lonnie Billups and a sister, Pearl Munn.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Veterans Patio in Coffeyville's Fairview Cemetery with Brother Lawrence Green officiating. Private interment will follow in Coffeyville's Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m., Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Donations to the Coffeyville Salvation Army are appreciated and may be left at the funeral home. LAY, THOMAS C.

Thomas C. Lay, 65, Coffeyville, KS, died Thursday morning, January 28, 2010 at his home. Tom was born September 20, 1944 at Hutchinson, Kansas to Clifford Lay and Orpha (Jackson) Lay. He moved with his family to Independence, Kansas and grew up there. Tom was a graduate of Independence High School and had attended Independence Community College. He served in the U.S. Army, being Honorable Discharged in 1968. He married Cheryl Jaggers on June 21, 1969 in Coffeyville. Tom worked for Coffeyville Resources, since 1973, as the Top Operator of the CAT/ALKY Unit. He was a member of Coffeyville's Trinity United Methodist Church.

Tom enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting, with his grandson, Thomas. He was into all kinds of outdoor activities and loved spending time with his grandkids. When Tom was younger, he enjoyed boating and water skiing.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl, of the home; one daughter, Becky Cox of Coffeyville; a sister, Helen Kircher and her husband, Charles of Grove, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Thomas, Robin and Alisa Cox; one great-grandson, Austin Foster and a great-grandchild on the way; three nieces; four nephews and the loving, family pet, Buddy, as well as a host of friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Carol Sue (Boyle) Godwin.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Trinity United Methodist church with Rev. Lee Passwater officiating. Interment will be in Coffeyville's Restlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 8 p.m., Tuesday. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. LIEBERT, LUCILLE AGNES

Lucille Agnes Liebert, 75, Overland Park, died on the evening of January 23, 2010 at The Forum in Leawood, KS.

She was born February 10, 1934, Coffeyville, KS, the fifth child of Albert L. and Mamie Jordan Liebert.

Ms. Liebert was a clinical psychologist licensed in the state of Missouri. Her business interests began when she worked as Director of Counseling Services at Marymount College, Salina, KS. She continued her work at Psychological Services, Kansas City, MO, under the supervision of Dr. C. Kermit Phelps before branching on her own in private practice. Her services ranged from marital counseling, elderly/aging, social adjustment in religious communities, occupational counseling, personality assessments/evaluations, and adolescents. Throughout her career she was also a professional consultant to several Catholic organizations and offices including Catholic Charities, Kansas City, MO, and the Catholic Dioceses of Kansas City, MO, Jefferson, MO, Des Moines, IA, Oklahoma City, OK, St. Cloud, Collegeville, MN, and Conception Abbey, Conception, MO. She also taught psychology courses part-time at Rockhurst University, Kansas City, MO.

Ms. Liebert was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Prairie Village, KS, where she participated in many faith-based discussion groups. Her faith was very important to her along with the many friends she met at St. Ann. She served as the church organist/pianist in her hometown church of Holy Name Catholic Church, Coffeyville, KS, where she also taught piano inside the family home. She was a member of the American Psychological Association, Missouri Psychological Association, Kansas Psychological Association, and American Personnel and Guidance Association.

Ms. Liebert graduated in 1984 with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Pacific Western University, Encino, CA. She received a Master of Arts in Music from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, in 1968 and a Bachelor of Music in Piano from The Kansas State Teachers College, Pittsburg, KS, in 1955. She graduated in 1951 from Field Kindley High School and Holy Name Catholic School in 1948. She enjoyed bird watching and was a lover of the arts such as symphonies, recitals, concerts, art galleries, and theatre plays.

Survivors include Robert “Bob” L. Liebert, Coffeyville, KS, Father William “Bill” Thomas Liebert, SVD, Techny, IL, and Albert C. and Geraldine “Jerry” Liebert, Coffeyville, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Liebert, infant, and sister-in-law Patricia “Pat” Liebert. Other survivors include nieces Ann Marie Vannoster, Coffeyville, KS, Caroline Law, Lenexa, KS, Mary Liebert Franklin, Tulsa, OK, and Jane Ellen Liebert, Lawrence, KS.

Visitation is Wed, January 27, 2010 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS, 9:30am-10:20am with a rosary beginning at 10:20am.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wed, January27, 2010 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Prairie Village, KS under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, KS. A funeral dinner will be at St. Ann after regular funeral services.

Graveside Services and burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville, KS with Father Ben Nguyen officiating under the direction of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

MEEKS, JACKIE L.

Jackie L. Meeks, age 58 of Tyro passed away, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Meeks was born October 3, 1951 in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Donald and Juanita (Casey) Meeks. He attended Coffeyville schools and had worked as a roofer, living in the Caney and Tyro area.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Survivors of Jackie Meeks include: a son, Jackie Majors of Tyro; a daughter, April Meeks of Wichita, and one brother, Teddy Brand of Pittsburg.

WEBSTER, HELEN A.


Helen A. Webster, 89, of Coffeyville, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Asbury Village in Coffeyville.

She was born September 28, 1920 in Nowata County, Oklahoma to John and Mary (Haynes) Purkey. She grew up on the family farm in Nowata County receiving her elementary education in rural schools, and graduated from Lenapah High School in Lenapah, Oklahoma.

Helen was employed at Kirby Shoe Store and Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, OK. In the mid 1960’s she went to work at RX Pharmacy where she was employed until retiring in 1987.

She married Jim Webster and he preceded her in death.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville, a 50 year member of Order of Eastern Star, and Past President of the Book Review Club.

Survivors include one sister, Madeline Moore and her husband Leo of rural Coffeyville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Collins and Dr. Wayne Norton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Washington Cemetery at Lenapah, OK.

Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
