VANCIL ROSA ALICE GIBSON

Final rites were held Sunday for Miss Rosa Vancil of John Day, resident of eastern Oregon the past 66 years. The late Mrs. Vancil died at 9:25 o clock Friday morning at the John Day medical center and hospital where she has been a patient 14 days.  Death was due to a heart ailment, which she had suffered several months.  At the time of her death, she was 74 years, 3 months and 28 days old.

Services were held at the chapel of Driskill s mortuary in John Day at 3 o clock in the afternoon.  Officiating was the Rev. Fred L. Waller, pastor of the Community Methodist church of John Day.  Burial was made in the Canyon City cemetery.  Pallbearers were Charles W. Brown, William Grant and Niles Sproul of Canyon City and C. E. Gunther, Fred Lemcke and William Ste Marie of John Day.  Out of town relatives attending the final rites were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Vancil of Grants Pass, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Vancil of Ione, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Alva Vancil of Emmett, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Vancil and family of Mt Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Harral of Pondosa, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Bertgstrom of Lakeview, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Schouten and sons of Portland, Mrs. Ora Wallace of Connell Wa., Mr. and Mrs. August Moroaco of Umpine, Miss Linnie Carney of Milton-Freewater, and Bert Gibson Walla Walla, Wa.

Rose Gibson, daughter of Horatio and Charlotte Hubler Gibson, was born June 29, 1880 of Chanute, Neosho, Kansas. With her parents, she traveled from Kansas to Milton in Umatilla county in 1880.  The trip across the plains of the Midwest was made by covered wagon.

The marriage of Rosa Gibson to W. N. Vancil was solemnized July 9, 1896 at Milton.  To this union 13 children , nine who survived. The couple resided in that area until June 1915 when they moved to Grant County.  Mr. Vancil died December 19, 1943 in Canyon City.

The deceased was a member of the Ellis Tracy Unit No. 77, American Legion Auxiliary.   Her membership listed her as Gold Star Mother, Her son, Dallas, having been killed during World Was II.

Her survivors are three daughters.  Mrs. Jerry (Florence) Harrol of Pondosa, Mrs. William (Della) Boethin of Canyon City, and Mrs. W. E. (Hazel) Berstrom of Lakeview: 6 sons, Raymond of Ione, Calif., Alva of Emmett, Idaho, Samuel of John Day, Melvin of Mount Vernon, Virgil of Pendleton and Cecil of Grants Pass; 29 grandchildren; 6 great-grand children, three sisters, Mrs. Ora Wallace, Connell Wash., Mrs. Della Nelson, Colfax, Wash, Mrs. Pearl Fairwather, Spokane, Wash., and a brother Bert Gibson of Walla Walla, Wash and two nieces, Mrs. Linnie Carney of Milton-Freewater and Mrs. August Moraco of Umpire. HARE, FRANK

Frank Hare, 81, dies; Services held Tuesday

Frank Hare, 81, died Sunday at the Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He had been in ill health for 12 years. Frank Hare was born Feb. 27, 1894 at Neodesha and had lived in this vicinity all his life.

He was married Aug. 13, 1914 at Fredonia to Rozella Duft. He had worked at the local refinery, worked as a driller, operated a saw mill and had farmed since 1945.

Mr. Hare survived by his wife of the home on Rt. 2; three daughters, Mrs. Addison (Letha) Berry, Hensdale Mont., Mrs. Dale (Lorene) Newton, Altoona, and Mrs. Darlene Ellis of the home; three sons, Leonard Hare and Lawrence Hare, Neodesha, and Leroy Hare, Topeka; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Stellene; one sister, Mary Clanton who died in 1929; and 8 brothers, Dock Willard, William Henry, Samuel, Jake, Thomas, James and Fred Hare.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse C. Hicks officiating. Interment was at Grandview Cemetery Sept. 15, 1968. (Neodesha, Kansas newspaper, Submitted by Dick Hare & Jacque Dean Linnebur)

HARE, FRED

Fred Hare, 66, Rural Altoona, died on Monday

Neodesha - Fred Hare, 66, Rural Rt. #2, Altoona, died at 9:15 a.m. Monday, July 17 at St. Margaret's Mercy Hospital in Fredonia.

Fred was born January 13, 1901 in Neodesha and was the son of John and Margaret (Snavely) Hare. In Nowata, Okla., on Nov. 17, 1922, he was married to Clara Pratt.

Mr. Hare was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, one sister and one son. He attened (sic) school at North Brown and worked as a pumper in the oil fields for A. W. Bailey until 1943 at which time he went into farming. He had been in farming up until his death.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Altoona. Surviving are the widow, Clara, of the home, and a brother Frank Hare of Neodesha.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 19, at 2 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Neodesha with the Rev. Kenneth Richards officiating. HARE, JAMES STEVEN

James Steven Hare dies following heart attack.

Funeral Here Sunday

James S. Hare, 65, died yesterday at 2 p.m. at his rural home following a heart attack. He had been in poor health since 1958.

James Steven Hare was born August 3, 1898 near Neodesha to John and Margaret (Snavely) Hare. On February 16, 1920, he was married in Independence to Miss Eunice Fender.

Mr. Hare was farmer and oil field worker, retiring from work in the oil fields in 1945. He also worked at the Brickton Brick Plant for about 10 years. He had lived in the Neodesha vicinity all of his life.

Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Eunice Hare of the home, one son, Lewis Hare, Neodesha, one grandson, Jerry Hare (adopted); two brothers, Frank hare, Neodesha; and Fred Hare, Altoona. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mrs. Mary Clanton, five brothers, Henry, Thomas, Samuel, Jake and William; one step-brother, Doc Williard (Nov. 28, 1963). HARE, SAMUEL LOREN

Samuel Hare found ded in bed Sunday.

Funeral services for Samuel Hare, who was found dead in bed Sunday, August 2 were held yesterday morning at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. Mr. Hare had been in failing health for the past eight years and coronary occlusion was listed as the cause of death. The Rev. Frank W. Sprague was in charge of the services and burial was in Grandview Cemetery.

The deceased was born February 14, 1888 in Neodesha and was 65 years, five months and eighteen days of age at the time of his death. He was married August 6, 1908 in Fredonia to Miss Anna Yahne who survives him. He had lived his entire life span in Kansas and had farmed all of his life.

He was the son of John Hare, born in Baltimore, MD and Margaret Snavely Hare, born in Virginia. Both preceded him in death. He attended the Christian Church.

Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Roy Hare, rural Cherryvale and a daughter, Mrs. W. E. Hixon, Wichita; five grandchildren, Donald Hixon, Wichita and Shirley Ann, Melvin, James and Samuel Loren Hare of Cherryvale, seven brothers, William Hare, Bartlesville, Ok., Henry Hare, Elk City, Jacob Hare, Jenkins, Mo., Thomas, Frank and James Hare all of Neodesha and Fred Hare, Altoona.

HARE, STELLA FRANCIS MARGARET

Stella F. Beyen, 83, Nowata, died early Tuesday morning, April 28, 1992 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville, Ok., Born March 25, 1909 at Cherryvale, KS, Stella was the daughter of William and Mamie (Robertson) Hare. She grew up around Cherryvale and later moved to Wallace, Idaho with her family. She married William Howard Beyen, Sept. 14, 1927 at Mizzoula, Montana. Following the marriage, the couple moved to Newton, Iowa and then to Nowata in 1945.

Mrs. Beyen was a longtime employee of Snodgrass Cleaners in Nowata before her retirement. She attended the Nowata United Methodist Church.

Mr. Beyen preceded his wife in death on May 6, 1984.

Survivors include one son, William H. Beyen, Jr., Lompoc, Ca., one daughter Helen a Dobyns, Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert C., Albert W., Claude and Wilbur Hare, and one sister, Elizabeth Hare.

Funeral services for Mrs. Beyen will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 30 in the Benjamin Funeral Chapel with Dr. Allen Schneider officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. HARE, THOMAS BLAKELY

Tome Died here Sunday.

Thomas Blakely Hare died Sunday evening at 6:35 at the Wilson County Hospital following an illness of three weeks. He had been in poor health for some time. The cause of death was listed as heart trouble.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 in the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home with Rev. Frank W. Sprague in charge of the services. Interment was at Grandview Cemetery. He was 57 years of age. Mr. Hare was born December 14, 1895 at Neodesha and on November 26, 1915, he married Miss gladys E. Duft, in Independence. He had lived in or near Neodesha all his life. Mr. Hare's wife, Mrs. Gladys E. Hare of the home, survives his death.

Surviving children are: Mrs. Frank Johnson, Cherryvale, PFC Donald L. Hare of the home, and two grandchildren, Kenneth and Frances Reynolds, Cherryvale. Surviving brothers are William Hare, Bartlesville, OK; Henry Hare, Elk City; Jake Hare, Jenkins, MO.; Frank Hare and James Hare, Neodesha and Fred Hare, Altoona. Mr. Hare attended the Christian Church and he had worked for A. W. Bailey and Sons for 37 years in the oil business. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Mike Clanton and one brother, Samuel Hare. HARE, WILLIAM M.

William Hare, 76 is dead.

Nowata - William M. Hare, 76, died this morning in a Nowata Hospital. Born at Neodesha, he moved from there to the Nowata-Bartlesville community where he had lived for 30 years. He was a retired farmer. In 1906, he was married at Fredonia to Mamie Robertson. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Stella Beyen, Nowata; three sons, Albert William, Nowata, Claude, Lansing, Kan., Robert, Garden City; five brothers, Henry, Elk City, Frank, Neodesha, Jake, Cassville, Mo., Jim and Fred, Neodesha, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchidlren. ILES, WILLIAM A.

DR. WILLIAM A. ILES DEAD.

He Had Been a Resident of Kansas For Sixty-Nine Years.

Dr. William A. Iles, one of the real pioneers of Kansas, died at his home six miles northwest of Galesburg Sunday evening aged 80 years, three months and 15 days.

Dr. Iles was reared partly in Campbell county, Kentucky, and partly in Doniphan county, Kansas. He entered the Union army August 19, 1862, enlisting in the 13th Kansas volunteer infantry, was wounded at Prairie Grove, December 7, following, and later served with his regiment till the close of hostilities, his command covering a considerable part of Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and Indian Territory and was mustered out at Little Rock, Ark., June 26, 1865.

After the war Mr. Iles lived for a time in Cass county, Missouri, and then in Crawford county, Arkansas, engaged in farming and, after moving to Arkansas, in the practice of medicine. In 1882 he returned to Kansas and settled in Neosho county near Urbana, where he resided for almost forty years and followed farming and the practice of medicine with reasonably good success both in a financial way and professionally. About two years ago he moved to a farm on the Ogeese valley.

Dr. Iles married March 10, 1864, Elizabeth Truitt and the issue of this union was five sons and four daughters, John Henry, Deborah, James M., Ellen, Joseph, Mary J., Beatrice, William E. and Robert A.

He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and in national politics was a Republican, having cast his first vote for president for Grant in 1868.

Coming to Kansas in 1854 with his parents, he was in point of residence one of the oldest settlers in the state.

Funeral services were conducted from the Ogeese church Tuesday afternoon by Elder Willson, of Fredonia, after which the remains were laid to rest in Mt. Hope cemetery [Galesburg].
