ADAMS, Helen (King) MANHATTAN -- Helen King Adams, 96, Manhattan, died Sunday, Oct. . 1, 2000, at a Manhattan retirement community. She was born July 1, 1904, at Ewing, Ill., the daughter of H.H. and Elizabeth Seargeant King. She was raised in Manhattan and graduated from Manhattan High School. She also attended Kansas State University. Mrs. Adams was a 50-year member of Chapter AA of the PEO Sisterhood, Trinity Episcopal Church at Norton, a 75-year member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, and she was a house mother for Beta Theta Pi fraternity for 12 years. She married Ralph E. Adams on Oct. 3, 1924, in Manhattan. He preceded her in death in 1964. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Nordgren, Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Barbara Hageman, Dallas, and Shirley Sikes, Leonardville; two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. Mrs. Adams was cremated. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Norton City Cemetery in Norton. Memorial contributions maybe made to the Meadowlark Hill Retirement Community in Manhattan, and sent in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. ADAMSON, Elias Henry Elias Henry Adamson, was born in Henry County Indiana on Aug 31, 1839 and died at his home in Lenora, Kansas on Aug 31, 1915. He was 76 years of age. United in marriage to Miss Catherine A. Bond on Nov. 24, 1865. Came to Norton County Kansas, and settled on a farm in 1880 where they endured the hardship of pioneer years. The last 10 years they have lived in Lenora. He enlisted in the Civil War in Co.D 36 Reg., Ind . Infantry on Sept 24, 1864. He leaves to mourn his departure one brother John Adamson of Edmond, Okla., his widow and other relatives. Services were conducted by W.L. Marlin, in the Congregational Church. ALBRIGHT, Norman Carl Norman Carl Albright 85, Lenora, died September 18, 2005 at Kansas Soldier's Home in Fort Dodge. The so of Carl and Mildred (Asley) Albright, he was born November 6, 1919 in Logan. He attended Logan schools and served in the Army during WWII. On June 29, 1946, he married Betty Lou Williams. They lived in Lenora, where he worked construction. Mrs. Williams died September 25, 2000. He was a member of the Lenora Church of God and the Norton International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Vernon. Survivors include: a daughter, Debbie and Dennis Lewis, Hoxie; a son, Elvin and Shelia Albright, Wichita; a brother, Steve Albright, Norton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. ALSDORF, Lula Ruth (Martin) Lula Ruth Alsdorf, daughter of Samual J. and Rose Ann Martin, was born May 13, 1895 at Tarkio, Missouri and passed away at the Dawson Place, Hill City, Kansas April 16, 1976 at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 3 days. Lula moved with her family to Republic County, Kansas and lived there until she was 14. The family moved to Lenora where Lula grew to womanhood and attended Rural Grade Schools. On March 29, 1917 Lula and Orville G. Alsdorf were united in marriage in Lenora, Kansas. Following their marriage they made Lenora their home. Mrs. Alsdorf was a member of the Lenora United Parish Church, Supervisor of the Hot Lunch Program in Lenora Schools for 15 years, a member of the Portia Federated Club, the Penniless Club for several years, she helped organize the E.H.U. of Lenora in 1932, and was a leader in Girl Scouts. Survivors are a son and his wife, Robert L. and Lenoa Alsdorf, Fresno, California; a daughter and her husband, Carmen and Carl Linden, Denver, Colorado; two sisters; Mrs. E. A. Wilson, Lincoln, Nebraska and Mrs. Gladys Hamilton, Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. ARNOLD, Koester L. Koester L. Arnold, son of Harvey E. and Sophia Nelson Arnold, was born September 15, 1913 in Waterville, Kansas and passed away in Topeka, Kansas on April 1, 1991 at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 16 days. The family moved to Lenora when Koester was six months old and he attended the Pleasant Ridge District No. 34 Rural Grade School to the 8th grade. He made his home and farmed in the Lenora area until his retirement in 1976. He moved into Lenora five years ago. Survivors include: two sisters and their husbands, Arlyss and Barney Aldridge, Topeka, Kansas and Gladys and Merton Schreiber, Wichita, Kansas; other relatives and many friends. ASHCRAFT, J. W. Died at the Commercial Hotel in this place, of consumption on Wednesday morning, June 26, 1878, at 9 o'clock am, J. W. Ashcraft, aged 34 years. The deceased was born in Genessee County, New York and came west when quite a young man. He was taken with consumption two years ago, and at times appeared to be recovering. Though he had been in Norton but about a month, yet had he gained many warm friends, who truly sympathized with him. BAKER, Bert Bert W. Baker, 87, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Andby Home in Norton. He was born October 9, 1921 in Indiana Township, Graham County, Kansas, the son of Robert "Bob" and Gussie Baker. In 1927, he moved with his parents, to Lenora. He was a Laborer. He was a member of the United Parish Church of Lenora and the IOOF and Rebekah Lodges of Lenora. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Vanetta Faye. BAKER, Orville Van Orville Van Baker, son of Godfrey and Rose Pollick Baker, was born in Rice County, Kansas on May 25, 1893 and passed away at the Norton County Hospital on July 15, 1975 at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 20 days. Mr. Baker grew to manhood on his parents' farm south of Lenora in Graham County. He attended rural school in that area. On May 4, 1921, at the farm home of the bride's parents, he was united in marriage to Mae Brautigam. Following their marriage they farmed in the Almena area until Mrs. Baker's death on May 20, 1956. At that time Mr. Baker moved into Almena where he made his home until moving to the Logan Manor in 1967 where he resided until his death. Mr. Baker is survived by his children: Cantril and wife, Pearl Baker, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Dorothy and husband, Roy Brooks, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Kelcy and wife, Dorothy Baker, Vallejo, California; and Henry and wife, Josephine Baker, Napa, California. Two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Gussie Baker, Lenora, Kansas, Mrs. Jessie Baker, Ft. Dodge, Kansas, 9 grandchildren, other relatives and many friends also survive. BAKER, Robert Henry Robert Henry Baker, youngest son of G. V. and Rosanna Baker, was born December 22, 1897 at Wherry, Kansas and passed away June 15, 1971 in the Trego County Hospital at the age of 73 years 6 months and 13 days. At an early age he moved with his family from Rice County to Graham County on a farm Southeast of Lenora where he grew to manhood. He attended South Star School. On March 19, 1921 he was united in marriage to Gussie E. Workman in Hill City, Kansas. To this union a son Bert W. Baker, and a daughter, Vanetta Faye, who passed away at the age of 7 months, were born. After leaving the farm Bob was a mechanic for Bills Motor Co. in Lenora, and later was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and also worked at construction work. For the past eleven years he lived in WaKeeney, Kansas. Bob entered the hospital June 10 and passed away in the early morning of June 15, 1971. Graveside services were held at the South Star Cemetery on June 16, 1971. The Hendricks Funeral Home of WaKeeney was in charge of arrangements. He leaves to mourn his death, a son Bert, of Lenora; a brother Orville of Logan, Kansas; one sister-in-law Jessie of Lenora; several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother Thomas. Rev. Robert Speer of Lenora was clergyman. Casket bearers were Leonard A. Cutting, Melvin Morford, Carl Zohner, Fred Zohner, Walter Deines and Riley Best. BANGLE, Arlene (Johnson) Arlene B. Bangle, 89, died at the Dawson Place Nursing Home, Sunday, November 22, 2009. She was born July 24, 1920 in Moore, Oklahoma to Elmer and Bessie (Shipley) Johnson. A long time area resident, she was a registered nurse and a homemaker. She was a member of the Hill City Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Herbert Hale on October 31, 1991 and Chester E. "Chet" Bangle on May 7, 2001; one brother, and one sister and her parents. BANGLE, Ruby Pearl (Montgomery) Ruby Pearl Bangle, daughter of Herbert and Leda Gregory Montgomery was born July 11, 1918 in Sheridan County, Kansas and passed away at the Graham County Hospital in Hill City, Kansas on November 20, 1985 at the age of 67 years, 4 months, and 9 days. She grew to womanhood on the family farm and attended rural grade school in Sheridan County. She married Harold L. (Mike) Bangle on July 11, 1937 at her parent's farm home. Following their marriage they farmed at Morland, Lenora, Lucerne, and in 1943 to New Almelo where they lived until they moved to Lenora in 1983. As a young girl she attended the Bow Creek Methodist Church. She was a member and very active in the Lenora Church of God. Other memberships include the Sunflower Club and the Portia Club. She dearly loved and greatly enjoyed her family and friends. Survivors include: Her husband, Harold (Mike), of the home; one son and his wife, David and Marcelyn, Derby, Kansas; two daughters and their husbands, Patty and Loyd Lowder, Phoenix, Arizona and Peggy and Terry Williams, Dodge City, Kansas; one brother and his wife, Raymond and Juanita Montgomery, Alexandria, Indiana; two sisters and their husbands, Margaret and Frank Husted, Hoxie, Kansas and Beryl and Roy Covalt, Studley, Kansas; seven grandchildren, other relatives and her many friends. BARBO, Clarence Guy Clarence Guy Barbo, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Gatlin Barbo, was born April 30, 1890 at Lenora, Kansas and passed away April 17, 1976 at Norton, Kansas. He was 85 years, 11 months and 17 days. Mr. Barbo has been a lifetime resident of the Lenora area. He attended the Lenora Schools and the Grand Island Business College in Grand Island, Nebraska. On September 6, 1914, at the home of the bride's parents near Lenora, he was united in marriage to Kathleen [sic] Baird. Following their marriage they lived 3 years near Springfield, Missouri before returning to the Lenora are where they both lived until their deaths. Mr. Barbo was a member of the United Parish Church, a member of the Lenora Lodge No. 181, A.F. & A.M. for 53 years and was an active man in all community affairs. He is survived by his two daughters and their husband, Betty and Fred Nelson, Lenora, Kansas; Josephine and John Gwynne, San Diego, California; 3 grandchildren, John W. Gwynne 3rd, San Diego, California; James Clarence Mai, Anna Christine Nelson, both of Lenora and 1 great grandchild, Nita Lynn Mai, Lenora, Kansas. Other relatives and many friends also survive. Following their marriage, they lived in the Lenora area all of their married life except for three years when they formed in Springfield, Mo. He was a farmer all his life. He was a member of the United Parish Church at Lenora and a 53 year member of the A. F. & A.M. Lodge 181, Lenora. Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Betty and Fred Nelson, Lenora, and Josephine and John Gwynne, San Diego, Cal., three grandchildren, James Clarence Mai, Lenora, John W. Gwynee [sic] III, San Diego, Cal and Anna Christie Nelson, Lenora; one great-granddaughter, Nita Lynn Mai, Lenora; other relatives in many friends. Helen grew to womanhood at Cuba and attended the Cuba schools. On September 27, 1941 Helen and Joseph G. Barbo were married at Wichita, Kansas. They have lived in many localities since their marriage. BARBO, Joseph Gerald Joseph Gerald Barbo, son of Virgil and Lela Gaither Barbo, was born May 7, 1916 at Lenora, Kansas and passed away on November 14, 1979 at his home in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi at the age of 63 years, 6 months and 7 days. Joe grew to manhood at Lenora and graduated from the Lenora High School and attended Fort Hays State and the Nebraska Univiersities. Joe and Helen Dittemore were married at Wichita, Kansas on September 27, 1941. They made their homes in Wichita, Kansas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Littleton, Colorado and moved to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi in 1965 and had made their home there since. Helen passed away on September 8, 1978. Joe was a member of the United Parish of Lenora, a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Joppa Gulfport Shrine Temple of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, the Lenora A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge No. 181 and the Lenora Order of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 296. Survivors include: one son and his wife, Michael and Rose Barbo, Denver, Colorado; two daughters and their husband, Helen F. and Donald Malline, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; Mary E. and Jeff Krabel, Brooksville, Florida; one sister Fran Lathrop, Norton, Kansas; five grandchildren, nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. BARBO, Lela B. (Gaither) Lela B. Barbo, daughter of Hillary and Mary McCave Gaither, was born on October, 12, 1892 at Elsie, Nebraska, and passed away on November 23, 1974, at the Norton County Hospital, Norton, Kansas, at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 11 days. Lela spent her early childhood in Nemaha, Nebraska, Missouri and Clayton, Kansas. She attended primary schools in Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas. And Normal Training School in Norton, Kansas. On January 17, 1915 she was united in marriage to Joseph Virgil Barbo at Lenora, Kansas. They lived in Lenora all their married life. He passed away in 1956. She was a member of the United Parish Church in Lenora and was a Past Worthy Matron and a 50-year plus member of the Eastern Star in Lenora. She was a member of the Modern Study Club and Delta Dek Bridge Club of Lenora. Survivors include one daughter, Frances Lathrop of Norton; one son, Joe and his wife, Helen Barbo of Pass Christian, Mississippi; two grandsons and their wives, Michael and Roswitha Barbo of Denver, Colorado, Gary and Cathy Lawlis of Waukegan, Illinois; two granddaughters and their husbands, Helen Frances and Don Mallini of Pass Christian, Mississippi, Mary Beth and Jeff Krabel of Brooksville, Florida; three great grandchildren, Cassandra Lawlis, and Jana and Anthony Mallini. BARBO, Ruth (Bennett) Ruth Barbo, daughter of John and Agnes Smithman Bennett, was born March 4, 1894 at Athol, Kansas and passed away February 3, 1978 at the Dawson Place in Hill City, Kansas at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 28 days. Ruth grew to womanhood in the Athol and Eskridge, Kansas area. She attended the grade schools and graduated from the Eskridge high school. She moved to the Lenora area in 1912 and taught school there from 1912 until 1917. On July 24, 1917, Ruth and Ross Barbo were married at Lenora, Kansas. They made their home in Lenora where they operated "Barbo's Cleaners". Ruth later worked at the Van Diest Grocery Store until her retirement. She was a member of the Lenora United Parish Church. BARRICK, Marie Eleanor Marie Eleanor Barrick, daughter of August Wm. and Amelia Klara Feuer Haferland was born on the farm 12 miles south of Lenora, Kansas in Graham County on November 13, 1894, and passed away at the Sheridan County Hospital on February 28, 1981, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 15 days. Eleanor attended the Prairie View Rural Grade School in Graham County. After completion of grade school, the family moved to Lenora, where Eleanor attended and graduated from the Lenora High School in 1914. After high school, she attended Business College in Lincoln, Nebraska. After completing business school, she went to work for the First National Bank in Chicago, Illinois. On November 25, 1926, Eleanor was united in marriage with Ernest E. Barrick in Chicago, Illinois. They made their home in Franklin Park, Illinois, until Mr. Barrick passed away on November 10, 1967, she continued living at Franklin Park until her health failed. She came to the Norton Long Term Care Facility in 1973 to be close to her sister and other relatives. Upon the closing of the Norton Facility, she went to the Sheridan County Long Term Care facility. She was a member of the United Parish in Lenora, Kansas, and attended the Congregational Church in Chicago. Survivors include: her sister, Anna Burgess, Lenora; one sister-in-law, Goldie Haferland, Lenora, Kansas; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernest; three sisters, Minnie, Theresa and Mollie; one brother Karl and one brother in infancy. BATES, James Joseph James Joseph Bates, son of Damian and Fernunda Nusse Bates was born September 25, 1909 at Lenora, Kansas and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas on August 25, 1989 at he age of 79 years and 9 months. He grew to manhood on a farm west of Lenora, and attended Square Top Grade School graduating in 1926. After graduation he helped his dad with the farming and raising cattle. He was married to Hazel A. Morgan at New Almelo, Kansas on October'5, 1932. he farmed for a few years during the dirty thirties, then moved into Lenora taking the job of Tank Wagon Agent for Standard Oil Company. After 27 years of service, due to poor health he retired from the job in 1969. They moved into Lenora Housing and Jim and his wife have been manager there for nine years. He was a member of the Lenora United Parish Church and enjoyed the Senior Citizens activities. Survivors include his wife Hazel, of the home; one daughter and her husband, Carol and Elmer Ruhl, Brush, Colorado; two sisters, Margaret Otter, New Almelo and Cordelia Kitzke, Norton; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and his many friends. BEAL, Eugenia A. (Gearheart) Plainville - Eugenia Beal, 64, died Sunday, March 20, at Suburban Medical Center, Overland Park. She was born June 14, 1918, at Lenora, the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Shanley) Gearhart. She married Ira Beal; he died Sept. 12, 1973. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Alpha Beta Club. Survivors include a son, Byron, Austin, Texas; a daughter, Deanna Fox, Lenexa; three brothers, Leon Gearhart, Anchorage, Bill Gearhart, Hays, and Dean Gearhart, Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Virgie Sandborn, Lenora, Naomi Terry, Topeka, and Eunice Hurlbut, Chapman; and five grandchildren. BECKMAN, Alvin Earl Alvin Earl Beckman, son of Carl and Frances Dieterich Beckman was born August 19, 1934 at Norton, Kansas and passed away on February 7, 1990 at the V. A. Hospital in Topeka, Kansas at the age of 55 years, 5 months and 18 days. He grew to manhood in the Lenora area attending the North Star and Lenora Grade schools and Lenora High School and also attended three semesters at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Following his education he made his home in the Lenora area. He was a member of the United Parish Church in Lenora and was a member and Past Grand of Lenora and Norton I.O.O.F. Lodges. BECKMAN, Frances Edna (Dieterich) Frances Edna Beckman, daughter of Herman and Wilhelmina Zastrow Dieterich was born July 6, 1905 on the family farm south of Clayton, Kansas and passed away at her home in Lenora, Kansas on June 26, 1984 at the age of 79 years, 11 months, and 20 days. Frances grew to womanhood on the farm and attended the District #96 rural grade school. She married Carl Edward Beckman on November 16, 1926. Following their marriage they lived in the North Star community in Graham County until 1952 when they moved into Lenora. Mr. Beckman passed away in May, 1954. Frances was baptized in the Lutheran Church in 1902. She was an active member of the Lenora United Parish Church. She dearly loved her family and her hobbies including tatting, gardening and canning. Survivors include: one daughter and her husband, Geneva and Joe Berry, two sons, Calvin and his wife, Iva Beckman, and Alvin Beckman, all of Lenora, Kansas; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. BELDEN, Mable (Lane) Mable Belden, daughter of Frank and Edith Taylor Lane was born March 9, 1896 at Scottsville, Kansas and passed away at the Dawson Place in Hill City, Kansas on November 24, 1986 at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 15 days. She grew to womanhood in the Scottsville community and attended the Fairview Grade School and the Scottsville High School. On February 24, 1915, she and Frame Belden were united in marriage at the home of her parents. In 1917 they bought a farm one mile north of Lenora, living on the farm for more than 50 years. Two children were born to this union, Arnold and Arvord. Arnold passed away at the age of 20 years. In 1968, Frame and Mable built a new home and moved to Lenora. He passed away March 6, 1971. She was a member of the Lenora United Parish Church and had served as church organist for 35 years. She was also a member of the Portia and Penniless Clubs, E.H.U., the Lenora Chapter O.E.S. No. 296, the Lenora Rebekah Lodge No. 281, Delta Dek Bridge Club, and the Four Fours Pinochle Club. She taught piano for nearly 40 years. Survivors include: one son, Dr. Arvord W. Belden and his wife Georgia, Portland, Oregon; three grandchildren; one sister-in-law and her husband, Pearl and Hosey Lavey, Alamogordo, New Mexico; other relatives and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Arnold, three brothers, and three sisters. Mable will be long remembered for her generosity in helping friends, her participation in community affairs and her independence and resoursefulness throughout her "golden years." BERRY, Hardy Duane Hardy Duane Berry 79, Raleigh, North Carolina died Thursday, July 7, 2005. Mr. Berry, the eldest child of Newell H and Fern (Georgeson) Berry, was born March 17, 1926 on the family farm near Lenora, Kansas. He joined the Navy at age 18 and served in the Philippines in a chart depot. He attended Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, earning degrees in history and government and in journalism. He and Elizabeth Ann Thackeray were married Jan 27, 1950 in Manhattan.In 1957, They moved to Montana, where he was director or information for Montana State University, Bozeman. After a year with the Association for Higher Education in Washington, D.C., he became director of information services at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, retiring as associate vice chancellor in 1991. His interests included birds, gardening, geology, and geography. In later years, he has an interest in China and things Chinese. Survivors include his wife, Ann; two sons, Russell of Raleigh and John of Coppell, Texas, a daughter Elizabeth Berry Epperson of St. Charles, Mo; two daughters-in-law, Caroline and Denise Berry; a son-in-law, David Epperson, seven grandchildren, Matthew, Nick, Nathaniel, Jamison and John Benjamin Berry, Zoe and Elsbeth Epperson and two brothers, Delbert "Red" and Joseph C. both of Norton County, Kansas. BERRY, Timmy Joe T. J. (Tim) Berry, son of Joe and Geneva Beckman Berry was born May 30, 1952 at Norton, Kansas and passed away in Norton County, Kansas on January 10, 1987 at the age of 34 years, 7 months, and 10 days. He grew to manhood at Lenora and attended the Lenora Grade School and graduated from the Lenora High School in 1970. He had also attended Fort Hays State University. He worked on the Missouri Pacific Railroad from August, 1973 through 1978 and then the Burlington Northern Railroad in various Nebraska and Kansas locations from 1978 until the present time. He had also been engaged in farming with his father all his life. He was a member of the Railroad Union. He thoroughly enjoyed nature and his hobby was hunting. Survivors include: his parents, Joe and Geneva Berry, Lenora, Kansas; close friend and companion, Kitty Austin and her children, LeAnn and Shannon Austin, Norton, Kansas; one brother and his wife Steven and Joni Berry; one sister, Janet K. BISBEE, Janett (McFarland) Janett McFarland was born in London, Canada, July 16, 1847. Died at Rock Springs, Wyoming, July 11, 1906. She was married to John Bisbee in 1865 who died in 1882. She was married to John Burgin who died in 1887. Mr. Burgin came to Norton County in 1878 and resided here until about three years ago when she went to Wyoming. She had taken the train to come to Norton to visit her daughter and died suddenly. The body was brought to Norton. BOOHER, JANE Jane Booher departed this life at their late residence in Harrison Township, March 18, 1891. The deceased was born in the State of New York, Feb. 5, 1825, and was married to Gideon Booher in April 1845. So she and her beloved companion trod life's rugged road 46 years together. He still lingers and is nine years her senior. They settled in Iowa in an early day - and from there they came to Norton County where she died, about twelve years ago. Of their children five still live; they have 13 grandchildren. She was buried in the Sheley Cemetery, March 20, a large concourse of sorrowing friends and neighbors. BREEDEN, Clint Estes Clint Estes Breeden son of Albert Hugh and Laura Trout Breeden was born on January 20, 1888 in Smith County, Kansas and passed away September 26, 1978 at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 6 days. Clint came to Norton County with his family when he was a small boy and settled near Lenora and attended the rural grade school there. On October 25, 1909 Clint and Hattie Saltgman were married at Norton, Kansas. They have lived all their married life in Lenora. Clint owned and operated a shoe shop in Lenora. Mrs. Breeden passed away in June 1957. He was a member of the Lenora Church of God and the Lenora Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include: two daughters and their husbands, Nadine and Dick Eldridge, Lenora, Kansas, Ruth and Joe Roache, Boulder City, Nevada; one sister, Pearl Booth, Salina, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; other relatives and friends. BROWN, Walter Uhlan Walter Uhlan Brown, son of Joseph A. and Isabell Regester Brown, was born near Lenora, Kansas on February 13, 1892 and passed away at the Norton County Hospital on December 13, 1975 at the age of 83 years and 10 months. Mr. Brown, at an early age, moved with his family to Clay Center, Kansas. He grew to manhood and attended Rural School near Clay Center. On November 6, 1918 at Norton, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Lura Agnes Fitzjarrell. Following their marriage they farmed and lived north and west of Lenora until their retirement in 1950 when they moved into Lenora. Mrs. Brown preceded him in death on May 2, 1971 and he continued to make his home in Lenora until his death. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Vera Hazlett, Lenora, 2 sisters in law, Mrs. Lola Brown, Morland, Oklahoma and Mrs. Anna Brown, Pond Creek, Oklahoma, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends also survive. BURGESS, Clifford H. Clifford H. Burgess, son of Allan A. and Myrtle Market Burgess, was born June 24, 1896 at St. Louis, Missouri, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas on October 14, 1980, at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 20 days. When Clifford was in the fourth grade in school, the family moved from St. Louis to a farm near Oran, Missouri. Clifford finished grade school there and then went to work for the Missouri Pacific Railroad learning Telegraphy. He worked for the railroad awhile and then enlisted into the army during W.W.I serving in the European Theater of war. After service he went back to work for the railroad and was transferred to Lenora, Kansas in 1919. On August 11, 1920, Clifford and Anna D. Haferland were united in marriage in Lenora. They had lived in area towns where Clifford was depot agent, moving back to Lenora in 1942, where they have since made their home. Clifford was a member of the Lenora Church of God; the Lenora A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge No. 181 of which he was a 59 year member and Past Master; Lenora Eastern Star Chapter No. 296; member of the Northwest Kansas Weather Bureau Assoc. for 15 years; his family was his great love and fishing was his hobby. Survivors include: his wife Anna of the home in Lenora; two grandsons Richard and wife Robin Spencer, Scott City, Kansas and Hank Spencer, Hermosa Beach, California; two granddaughters Sara and husband Dan Ramsey, Scott City, Kansas and Nina Spencer, Manhattan, Kansas; four great grandchildren; one son-in-law R. CAMPBELL, Adam Old Settler Passed Away. Adam Campbell passed away at his home near Dellvale, Monday evening. He was 92 years old and has been a resident of Norton County since 1874. A pioneer settler of the county and was at one time known as the "Daniel Boone" of the county on account of his quaint method of dressing. Mr. Campbell was born in Kentucky March 8, 1823, moved with his parents to Missouri in 1830, moved to Mills County, Iowa in 1854, and was one of the first settlers in that county, and deeded the first section of land ever patented in that county. He came to Norton County in 1874 and settled on a place three miles southeast of Oronoque, where he has lived since. Mr. Campbell never had any education and could neither read nor write, but in business matters he never met with any failures, although in Frank Lockard's History of Norton County it is said he did not know A from B. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Rankin in 1864. She was born in Tennessee, in 1852 but was raised in Missouri and Kentucky. They had ten children and five of the boys still livein the section of the county where they first settled. Mrs. Campbell still lives with one of the boys. Mr. Campbell was one of the large landowners of the county and at the time of his death still owned about 480 acres of alfalfa land in the Prairie Dog Valley. CAMPBELL, Mary (Hensley) Mrs. Mary Hensley Campbell was born in West Virginia, Nov. 9th, 1833, died in Norton, Kansas, October 27, 1904. Twenty-six years ago Mrs. Campbell came from Iowa to Norton county and settled on a farm a few miles north of Almena. Mrs. Campbell was a most faithful mother, no sacrifice too great to make for the good or welfare of her children. Two sons and a daughter preceded her to the "other home not made with hands eternal in the heavens." Her husband and three daughters, Mrs. Ella Howard, Mrs. Lute, Mrs. Dailey, Mrs. Maggie Holmes and their families, remain to mourn her loss.l So glad they mourn, not as those who have no hope, for their mother made her peace with God and man in her last illness. Amidst all her intense sufferings she never murmured or complained, her only thought was of others. |

CAREY, Agnes Hazel (Hatcher Workman) Agnes Hazel Carey, daughter of Fred C. and Mary Alice Hilton Hatcher was born January 29, 1897 at Burlington, Kansas and passed away in San Antonio, Texas on February 15, 1985 at the age of 88 years and 16 days. When a young girl, Agnes moved with her family to Graham County where she lived most of her life. She attended the Morland rural grade school. Agnes was married to Clifford O. Workman on November 8, 1916. To this union was born one son, Delmar. She enjoyed her life on the farm, was a good homemaker, wife, mother, and devoted grandmother. She enjoyed her many friends and neighbors and was always willing to help those in need. In 1949 she and her husband retired to their home in Lenora, Kansas. There she lost her husband on September 8, 1966. She was married to Fred Carey on January 1, 1968 and they remained in this home until ill health forced her to enter the Dawson Home in Hill City. Survivors include: her husband, Fred of the home; one son and his wife, Delmar and Janice, grandson, Jerry and his wife, Dianna, all of Lenora, Kansas; one brother and his wife Earl and Mildred Hatcher, Phoenix, Arizona; one sister and her husband, Velma and Lawrence Lewis, Houston, Texas; one step-son and his wife, Charles and Reta Carey, one sister-in-law, Gussie Baker, all of Lenora, Kansas; five step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, other relatives and many friends. CLYDESDALE, Bertha Ellen (Hayes Allen) Bertha Ellen Clydesdale, daughter of John W. and Myrtle Hendricks Hayes, was born at Lenora, Kansas on December 16, 1898 and passed away at the Norton County Hospital on February 19, 1975 at the age of 76 years 2 months and 13 days. Bertha grew to womanhood in the Lenora area. She attended the Lenora Grade and High school. On June 7, 1916 at Lenora, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Leonard Allen. Two children blessed this marriage. Mr. Allen preceded her in death in 1945. Bertha made her home in Lenora and was Assistant Postmaster there until her retirement. On January 28, 1951 at Lenora she was united in marriage to Albert Clydesdale. He preceded her in death in 1964. Bertha was a member of the Lenora Chapter No. 296, Order of the Eastern Star and was a past Matron. She was also a member of the United Parish Church, the Royal Neighbors and the Harmonson-Redd American Legion Post No. 63 Auxiliary. Survivors include her son, Joe and his wife, Marcelle Allen, Norton, Kansas; her daughter, Pauline and husband, Dan Wagoner, LaGrange, Illinois, 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Delia Ringler, Lenora, Kansas; a sister in law, Miss Carrie Clydesdale, Norton, Kansas; a brother in law and his wife Leonard and Doris Clydesdale, Lenora, Kansas, other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one brother, Floyd Hayes and one sister, Violet Bacon. CLYDESDALE, Carrie Charlotte Carrie Charlotte Clydesdale, daughter of William J. and Mary (Florence) Clydesdale, was born March 5, 1908, east of Lenora and passed away at the Andby Home in Norton on Sept. 30, 2008 at the age of 100. She grew up in the Lenora area and graduated from the Lenora High School with the class of 1927. She also attended business school in Topeka, While in Topeka, she worked for a family caring for their young son. Carrie moved with the family to Utah, but returned to Kansas shortly thereafter. She helped her parents on the farm and cared for them until their deaths. She worked for the Andby Home for two years but quit due to health reasons. After that she became a caregiver for others in their own homes. She retired around 1970 and traveled to Florida and California. In 2001, she became a resident of the Andby Home where she lived until her death. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Norton Christian Church where she enjoyed helping to prepare funeral dinners. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Russell, Albert and Leonard. Burial was in the Lenora South Cemetery on October 3, 2008. CRAIG, Edith Roberta Edith Roberta Craig, 33, died Nov. 24 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She and her family had lived at one time at Lenora. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2 p.m. in the Lenora South Cemetery with Rev. Kendall Hendrickson officiating. Spencer Chapel, Hill City, is in charge of arrangements. She was born April 4, 1943, at Lenora, the daughter of Olen D. and Jessie L. Anglin Craig. Her father was a railroad man and the family lived in several locations. For the past few years she had lived in Little Rock where she did secretarial work. CRUICKSHANK, S. A. Edmond: October 7th, Mr. S. A. Cruickshank took sick about ten o'clock in the morning and died before midnight. Mr. Cruickshank was a soldier of the Civil War and an old settler of Kansas. He had lived in Graham County for more than twenty years. He leaves a wife, four daughters, and two sons. The funeral services were at the house and the interment at the Roscoe cemetery near his home. Mr. Cruickshank was well known and held in high esteem by his neighbors. CUTTING, Edmond Otis Funeral services for Edmond Otis Cutting were conducted at the Congregational Church of Lenora on Thursday, July 22, 1965, with Rev. Carl Kroenlein officiating. Internment was in the Lenora South Cemetery with graveside services by the Lenora IOOF Lodge. Mr. Cutting died Tuesday, July 20, 1965, at the Odd Fellows home near Manhattan. Mr. Cutting was born August 5, 1881, the son of Otis E. and Elizabeth A. Cutting on the farm southeast of Lenora. He farmed in Norton and Graham Counties until 1950 when he sold out and moved to Morland.. He later moved to Topeka and then into the Odd Fellows Home in 1959. He was united in marriage to Abbie Putnam in 1906. Mrs. Cutting passed away in 1918. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Robert and Julia Cutting of Topeka; three grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Mrs. Wm Cutting of Norton and several nieces and nephews. DAVID, Benjamin Frank Benjamin Frank David, son of Jonas and Eliza Schleppy David was born May 27, 1891 at Logan, Kansas and passed away at the Plainville Rural Hospital in Plainville, Kansas on February 16, 1985 at the age of 93 years, 8 months, and 19 days. As a young man he moved to a farm northeast of Lenora where he lived until he retired. He attended Norton County grade school and also attended high school in Norton. On April 23, 1914 he was united in marriage to Jennie Ingalsbe at Marysville, Kansas. To this union was born four sons and two daughters. Mrs. David passed away in 1937. Ben lived at Logan a few years after retirement. He moved and lived in Norton until December 1984 when his health forced him to move to the Plainville Nursing Home. Survivors include: four sons, and their wives, Howard and Marjorie DAVID, Mankato, Kansas; Frank and Reva David, Lyman and Myrna David, and Eugene and Leinad David, all of Lenora, Kansas; two daughters and their husbands, Rema and Don Fairbanks, Wichita, Kansas; Blanche and Bill Talton, Pocomoke, Maryland; one brother and his wife, Alfred and Rhoda David; Wichita, Kansas; 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren. DIETERICH, Marie M. (Schurz) Marie M. Dieterich, daughter of Henry and Margaret Schoeller Schurz, was born near Logan, Kansas on November 20, 1893, and passed away at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 14 days. Marie grew to womanhood on her parent's farm near Logan. She attended rural school in that area and in April, 1908 she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Logan. In 1909 she went to Sterling, Nebraska where she attended the Martin Luther College for one year. In 1910 she entered nurses training in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from which she graduated in 1914. She then went to Wellington, Kansas where she was a surgical nurse in the hospital until 1919. On November 26, 1919, at Logan, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Fred Dieterich. This union was blessed with two daughters, Helen and Ruth. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Dieterich moved to a farm seven miles northwest of Lenora where they lived until retirement in 1956. At that time they moved into Lenora where she had lived until her death. Mrs. Dieterich's life was a very useful one. She gave up her nursing career to assume the duties of a farmer's wife. When life in the country ended, Marie developed sewing skills to keep busy and assist others. Even during two years of illness, she crotched over forty capes. Survivors include her two daughters, Helen Dieterich, a college counselor in St. Louis, Missouri; Ruth, a registered nurse, and her husband Duane of Klamath Falls, Oregon, one grandson, Michael Radford, Klamath Falls, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Hangen, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Elizabeth Fink, Logan, Kansas, Louise, and her husband, Richard Rundle of Colorado Springs, Colorado, 2 sisters in law, Mrs. Frances Beckman, Lenora and Mrs. Charlotte Schurz, Logan, Kansas. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred, on February 7, 1959, her sisters, Mrs. Emma Hempler, Mrs. Sophia Phillips, Mrs. Elsie Edgington and her brothers, Fred, Henry and John Schurz. DUNN, Mary Gladys (Swendener) Mrs. Gladys Dunn, a daughter of Mrs. L. M. Swendener of Lenora, Ks., who had been ill for several years with pulmonary tuberculosis, passed away Monday evening at the home of her sister, Mr. R. R. Spohrer. Funeral services were held at the Spohrer home yesterday morning at 11:00 and burial was in the Lenora South Cemetery. Mary Gladys Swendener was born Nov. 26, 1900 at Lenora, Ksw., and departed this life Sept. 4, 1933 aged 32 yrs, 9 mos and 8 days. She attended grade and high school in Lenora. She was married to Joseph H. Dunn on Oct. 1, 1921 at Eskridge, Ks. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Joe H. Dunn of Eskridge, Ks., her mother, Mrs. L.M. Swendener, four sisters, Mrs. R.R. Spohrer and Mrs. J. B. Butler of Lenora and Mrs. Raymond Sarvis of Norton, Ks., and Mrs. C. G. Blank of Omaha, Nebr. Also two brothers, J. W. Swendener of Bellevue, Colo., and C. E. Swendener of Seneca, Nebr. She was always cheerful and the past two years had been a patient sufferer of tuberculosis. EATON, Albert nathan Mr. Albert Nathan Eaton, a lifelong resident of Kansas, departed this life, April 29, 1978. He was born January 22, 1886 in Kill Creek, Kansas the son of Edwin Albert and Laura Ellen Hoot Eaton. He was the oldest of fifteen children. Mr. Eaton attended school at Kill Creek, District #33. He married Miss Sarah Angeline Miller July 24, 1907 in Portis, Kansas. He worked as a Railroad engine watchman until he retired in 1951. Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, and carpenter work. He also enjoyed gardening and always took a great interest in the appearance of his yard and home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Eaton in April 8, 1942; parents, Edwin and Laura Eaton; two sons, Edwin James Eaton, Henry Abner Eaton; four siblings died in infancy; three brothers, Harvey A. Eaton, Chancey Eaton, Leslie Eaton; one sister; Katie. Mr. Eaton is survived by three sons, Paul Burton Eaton of Jamestown, Kansas; Ralph Nathan Eaton of Bedford, Texas; James Delano Eaton of Tacoma, Washington; six Daughters, Laura Jane Oltman of Hastings, Nebraska; Elizabeth Naomi Remmert of Manhattan, Kansas; Claudine Joy Williams and Mary Margaret Koel both of Lenora, Kansas; Delores Maxine Geisler of Manhattan, Kansas; Allie Leah Reynolds of Clifton, New Jersey; two brothers, Ben Eaton of Downs, Kansas; Vern Eaton of Alton, Kansas; four sisters, Millie Dey of Osborne, Kansas; Mary Meek of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Amy Cox of Canon City, Colorado and Sylvia Tyler of Russell, Kansas. ELDRIDGE, Donna Lee Donna Lee Eldridge, 56, of Topeka passed away May 2, 2009. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nadine, as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents. Donna "Miss Duffy" was born June 3, 1952 to Richard and Nadine Eldridge of Lenora, Ks. She attended the Lenora Elementary School and upon graduating from Lenora High School in 1970, attended the Vo-Tech school in Goodland, Kansas for two years. She also received further computer training through continuing education programs. Donna was then employed at the Norton County Hospital for several years. Following this, she worked at the Norton State Hospital until it closed. At that time, she moved to Topeka to pursue other interests. She was loved and respected by family and friends. We are all blessed by her special talent for making us laugh; especially by telling storied based on everyday events such at the doorknob exerciser and the out-of-order bathroom fixture. Donna went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2009. She is survived by her father, Richard of Norton; sister, Norma June Eldridge of Concordia; sister Barbara Wait and family; R.D. Wait and family of Norton and Angela Ndhlovu and family of Topeka. Donna will be greatly missed by family, relatives and numerous friends. EMERSON, Donald Edgar Don Emerson Funeral Services Held Wednesday Don Emerson, 52, died suddenly Monday morning from a severe heart attack, at his home north of Lenora. Donald Edgar Emerson Donald Edgar Emerson, son of John and Katheryn Emerson, was born near Bloomington, Kansas, on October 21, 1914, and passed away at his farm home near Lenora on October 24, 1966, at the age of 52 years and 3 days. As a small child he came with his parents to their farm in the Highland community. He attended the Highland rural school and the Lenora High School. After his marriage to Marjorie Moden on December 25, 1940, in Waterville, Kansas, the couple moved to Richland, Iowa, where Don was employed in a dairy. During World War II he saw service with a combat unit and was wounded in action during the Battle of the Bulge for which he received the Purple Heart. After completing his military obligations, Don and his wife moved to their present farm home where they have since lived. Don has been active in church work as well as community affairs. He was a member of the Congregational Church, presently was a teacher in Sunday school as well as serving the church as a Deacon. He was a past master of the Lenora Masonic Lodge and past patron of the Lenora Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons and the American Legion in Norton; he was also a charter member of the Lions Club of Lenora. He served on the Board of the Highland Township. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Marjorie and Melva Deanne, of the home; his parents John and Katheryn Emerson, Lenora, Kansas; an uncle and his wife Mr. and Mrs. Dillon Wonderlich, Norton, Kansas; an aunt and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cordill, Woodston, Kansas, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, 2:oo p.m. at the Lenora congregational Church with Rev. David Cutting of Topeka, officiating. The organist was Norma Hager; singer, Myron Johnson; song, The Lord's Prayer. Honorary casket bearers were Lawrence Gibson, John Holeman, Frank David, Ivan Suchsland, Loren Beach, Frame Belden, Gene Linton and Bert Baker. Casket bearers were Delbert Berry, Joe Berry, John Warton, Albert Georgeson, Emory Volkel and Ray Ellis. Graveside services were conducted by Lenora Lodge No. 181, A.F. & A. M. Interment was in the Lenora South Cemetery. The Cutting-Eckhart Funeral Home of Lenora was in charge of arrangements. Memorial Resolution of Respect In Memory of Brother Donald E. EMERSON, Katheryn Lu Etta (Wonderlich) Katheryn Lu Etta Emerson, daughter of Joshua and Mary Ann Raumaker Wonderlich, was born in Osborne County, Kansas on November 6, 1888 and passed away at the Norton County Hospital on October 21, 1975 at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 15 days. Mrs. Emerson grew to womanhood in Osborne County. She attended rural school in that county. On February 2, 1910 at the home of her parents she was united in marriage to John Emerson. Following their marriage they lived in Osborne County until 1919 when they moved to a farm 5-1/2 miles Northwest of Lenora, Kansas. This was their home until 1972 when they moved into Lenora. In March or 1975 Mr. and Mrs. Emerson moved to the Andbe Home where thy have made their home until her death. She was a member of the United Parish Church in Lenora, the Lenora Rebekah Lodge and was a charter member of the Penneyless Club. Survivors include her husband, John, a daughter in law, Mrs. Marjorie Emerson, Lenora, Kansas; one granddaughter, Melva Deanne, Katheryn's greatest joy of life, and her husband Gary Roberts, three great grandchildren, Catherine, Brett and Chris, all of Lawrence, Kansas, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Donald, three brothers, Dillion, Coleman and Nelson Wonderlich, three sisters, Stella Wonderlich, Orbie Heany and Bertha Cordill. EMMONS, Beulah Marie (Taylor) Longtime Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Beulah Marie (Taylor) Emmons, 88, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas. She was born March 3, 1921, at Lucerne, in Sheridan County, Kansas, the daughter of Charley Edmon and Effie Susannah (Brewster) Taylor. She attended Prairie View School District 10, and graduated from Morland High School. On October 12, 1940, she and Frederick Junior Emmons were married at Hoxie, Kansas. To this union a daughter was born in December of 1944, and a son was born in February of 1949. They made their home in Sharon Springs until 1967, when they moved to Arvada, Colorado. In 1997, they returned to live in Sharon Springs. She was a member of The Needlework Guild of America, doing work for the Ridge Home for Children. She enjoyed being a homemaker, gardening, and she was an avid reader. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, and one brother Orville Taylor. Surviving family includes her daughter Mary Ertle and her husband Don of Apple Valley, California; her son Butch Emmons and his wife Hallie of Corpus Christi, Texas; three grandchildren Scott Feemster and his wife Aimee of Pasadena, California; Sarah Nelson and her husband Dan of Corpus Christi, Texas; Chuck Emmons of Little Rock, Arkansas; two great-grandchildren Jeremy Jackson and Colby Nelson; brother Buzz Taylor of Castaic, California; dear friend Terri Smith of Sharon Springs; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The memorial service will be Friday, March 13, at 11:00 AM MT, at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church, with Reverend Paul McNall officiating. EMMONS, Fred Jr. Fred Emmons, Jr., 85, died January 16, 2007 at Prairie Manor Good Samaritan Center, Sharon Springs, Ks. He was born March 26, 1921 in Morland to Fred L. and Lucina (Trosper) Emmons. He graduated from High School in Arapahoe, Colorado. He married Beulah Taylor on October 12, 1940 in Hoxie, Kansas. He was a trainmaster for the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Survivors include his wife of the home; a son Butch Emmons, Corpus Christi, TX; a daughter, Mary Ertle, Apple Valley, California; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were at the United Methodist Church in Sharon Springs with military honors and Masonic rites. Inurnment was at the Lenora South Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. EMMONS, Frederick Lafayette Fred Emmons was born February 25, 1892, in a dugout on the Emmons Homestead north of Morland, Kansas, the son of George and Ida Emmons, and one of twelve children. He grew up on the family farm and attended the country school nearby. He was married to Lucina Trosper in 1916, and three sons were born of this marriage; Alvin, Perry and Fred Junior. Throughout the years Fred was a rancher, railroad man and farmer in Eastern Colorado and Western Kansas, spending many of these years in Graham County. On the 12th day of October, 1937, Fred was married to Lucy Mather. In recent years, Fred and Lucy have been retired and lived in Lenora, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Lucy of the home; two sons, Perry and wife Esther of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Fred Junior and wife, Beulah, of Arvada, Colorado; three step-daughters, Rose Williams of Hemet, California, Gwen Passmore, Olton, Texas and Velma Lou Courson, Detroit, Michigan; a brother, Charlie and wife Erma; sisters Winnie and husband, Earl Personett; Ina Waggoner and Leatha and husband Robert Helmadoller; a numer of beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren and many relatives and friends. EMMONS, Lucy Velma (Beeler) Lucy V. Emmons, daughter of Jesse and Laura Johnson Beeler, was born April 14, 1900at Cabool, Missouri and passed away in Hill City, Kansas, on May 15. 1981, at the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 1 day. Lucy grew to womanhood near Cabool and attended the rural grade school there. As a young lady, she moved to Sharon Springs, Kansas. In 1923, she married Lewis Mather at Sharon Springs. Mr. Mather passed away in March 1935. On October 12, 1937, Lucy and Fred Emmons were married in Lenora, Ks. Following their marriage they moved to a farm south of Lenora, Kansas, where they lived until their retirement when they moved into Lenora. Fred passed away in May, 1976. Lucy moved to Hill City in February, 1977. She was a member of the Lenora United Parish Church, a past member of the Rebecaka Lodge, and a member of the Polly Anna Club. Survivors include three daughters, Rose and her husband, Roy Williams, Eagle, Colorado. Gwen and her husband, Lewis Passmore, Eagle Point, Oregon, and Velma Courson, Hill City, Kansas; three step-sons and their wives, Perry and Esther Emmons, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Fred and Beulah Emmons, Arvada, Colorado, and Cloyd and Jeanette Mather, Mycanopy, Florida; one brother and his wife, Walter and Audrey Beeler, Houston, Missouri; three sisters, Mattie Dickerson, Springfield, Colorado, Iva Gordon, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Maxine and her husband, Gordon Grisham, Emmetsburg, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Winnie Personett and Erma Emmons, both of Lenora, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Lewis and Fred, two stepsons, Alvin Emmons and Clyde Mather.
