Osage County was organized in 1855, and was originally called Weller County. The name was changed in 1859, after the river which runs through the county. Lyndon is the county seat; besides the cities listed at the left, the communities of Barclay, Four Corners, Michigan Valley, Peterton, Vassar, Swissvale, Ridgeton and Rosemont lie within the boundaries of Osage County.
