WARREN BUCKLAND BEACH, M.D.
Warren Buckland Beach, physician and surgeon and health officer of Ottawa County, was born in Wrights Corners,
New York, August 8, 1873, son of Sherman M. and Jane (Mandavill) Beach. His father, who was a farmer, was born
at Lockport, New York, in 1830, and died there on April 9, 1877. His mother, who was born in Rochester, New York,
in 1832, and died at Parsons, Kansas, October 28, 1908. She was a teacher.
Educated in the public schools of Lockport until 1888, Warren Buckland Beach was graduated from high school there
in 1891, and in 1900 received the degree of Doctor of Medicine at Kansas Medical College at Topeka. For three years
he took medical work at the University of Buffalo, and in 1914 was a postgraduate student at New York Polyclinic.
In 1900 Dr. Beach was secretary of his graduating class, and winner of the alumni prize for the best thesis on
an original subject.
On November 23, 1912, Dr. Beach was married to Alberta Frances Herman at Topeka, her birthplace. Mrs. Beach, whose
father was born in Germany, and whose mother was born in Illinois, was born November 23, 1879. She is a graduate
of Christ Hospital at Topeka. There are two children, Clara Jane, born November 30, 1914, who was graduated as
president of her senior class from Delphos High School in 1932; and Helen Frances, December 11, 1916, who attends
junior high school.

Billings, Grace Bedell
Grace Bedell Billings, clubwoman, was born in Albion, New York, November 4, 1848, daughter of Norman and Amanda
(Smiley) Bedell. Her father, who was a stove manufacturer, was born in Genesee County, New York, in 1809, of Revolutionary
ancestry, and died at Albion County, in 1871. Amanda Smiley was born in Batavia, New York, in 1813, and died at
Bowmansville, New York, in 1879.
Grace Bedell attended public and select school at Albion until 1863, and was a student at Phipps Union Seminary
the following year. She was graduated from Albion Academy in 1866.
On December 3, 1867, she was married to George Newton Billings at Albion. He was born at East Gaines, New York,
December 7, 1845, and died at Delphos, on June 23, 1930. He served with the rank of sergeant in the 8th New York
Heavy Artillery and 10th New York Infantry from 1863 until 1866. he was cashier of the State Bank of Delphos from
1880 until 1930, and a farmer and wagon train captain from 1869 until 1880. His father was a member of the New
York state legislature. His family, of Welsh and English descent, came from Norman conquerors. They arrived in
America in 1623, several members of the family serving in the Revolution. Sir Francis Drake is reputed to have
been an ancestor. To Mr. and Mrs. Billings one son was born, Harlow, on September 16, 1872. He is married to Ellarene
Bishop, and is president of the State Bank of Delphos and a sportsman.
Mrs. Billings is a member of the Unitarian Church, the Presbyterian Missionary Society, the Red Cross, the Security
Benefit Association, and the Delphic Club, of which she is a former president.
