MRS. DANIEL MURPHY RETURNED HOME

A VETERAN ROCK ISLAND ENGINEER DEAD

PRATT, KAS., Dec. 6---Fred Gifford, said to have been the oldest engineman on this division of the Rock Island, died in a hospital in Topeka today. He was taken ill about a year ago, but did not give up his work until three months later, when he suffered a nervous breakdown. The body will be taken to Ellis, Kas., tomorrow.

Dr. E. M. HAWKINS, OF PRATT CO., COMMITS SUICIDE WITH A REVOLVER

PRATT, Kan., Sept. 2---Dr. E. M. Hawkins committed suicide at his home in this city at about 1 o'clock this morning. He was lying in bed with his wife and child when suddenly and without a word he raised himself in bed and sent a bullet crashing through his brain from a 32 calibre pistol. In the absence of any known cause the rash act is supposed to have been superinduced by financial troubles.
