data online as possible in order to make it freely available to all. We
gratefully accept contributions of raw data such as census information,
marriage/birth/deathrecords, obituaries, county histories, biographies, old
newspapers items - anything that would hep someone build their family

Republic County was organized in 1868. Its name is derived from the Republican River, which runs through the county. The river was so called because many years ago the valley of that stream was the seat of the "Pawnee Republic," a designation given to a principal divison of the Pawnee Indians, or Panis , as they were originally known. The County seat for Republic County is Belleville.
