Camp Funston, Kansas: Located at Fort Riley, KS. One of sixteen “Divisional Cantonment Training Camps” set up during the World War I. The construction of Camp Funston began in 1917 on 2,000 acres. Nearly 50,000 soldiers where trained here during World War I. The first recorded case of the influenza epidemic, also known as the Spanish Flu was from Camp Funston recorded March 4, 1918.
