County, Iowa, and died February 12, 1912 in Hennessey, Kingfisher County, Oklahoma.
Notes for Ferdinand "Ferd" Victor Raynor:
Immigrated to a area near Woodston, Kansas near Stockton with his cousins Ezra, Henry and Hannah Westenhaver.
Ferd went with his cousins, Ezra, Henry, & Hanna Westenhaver & their parents to KS. Ferd drove 1 of the
covered wagons. At Brown Co, KS the Indians had scalped a white man & were having a war dance, which caused
great concern for the Westenhaver group. They guarded their wagons by encircling them all night with their guns
ready, but they were not disturbed. The group settled near Woodston, KS, not far from Stockton. On Feb 8, 1880
Ferd married Laura Josephine Ives, & moved into a sod house. Stakes were driven into the dirt floor & slats
formed the frame for the straw beds. The oldest child was born in this sod house.
Ferd proved up a timber claim by hauling water 2 miles to keep the trees alive. Later he raised cattle & horses.
He became a successful farmer increasing his land holdings until he owned 400 acres. Abt 1895, when Lona was 14
yrs old, Laura became ill, & Ferd decided to take his family to IA. Lona drove 1 covered wagon & Ferd the
other, during the cold month of Feb. The trip took 14 or 15 days. The family lived near New Market, IA for a number
of yrs, until after 1902. The girls were married in IA. Ferd & his wife & son returned to live at Stockton,
KS. During the summer of 1907, Ferd suffered a severe attack of typhoid while in IA, & remained in poor health.
On Feb 28, 1908 he had an operation for prostrate at Concordia, KS & died there on March 11th.
Ferd was a member of the Presbyterian Church, which he joined abt 1891. He was a member of the Stockton Lodge IOOF
& Nowahcuba Lodge 189 AF & AM, & the Masons had charge of the grave side service. Rev Gray preached
the sermon for the funeral which took place at the Congregational Church. Laura married 2nd. Howard Shick, sheriff
of Rooks Co, KS & moved to Hennessey, Ok, where she died & is buried." Per: Emma Machacek - 1965
