MILL BUILDING IN RUSH COUNTY
Rush county is soon to be blessed with mills it seems. Bison's mill is ready to run; Rush Center has the arrangements perfected for a mill; and LaCrosse is going to build the only new mill from start to finish in the county. If the present wheat crop turns out all right there will be business for all. - La Cross Republican. (Kansas Semi Weekly Capital, May 15, 1900, page 3)
WOMAN FOUND IN A DYING CONDITION
Mrs. Hannah M. Miller, Employed as Domestic by Mrs. A. J. E. Hubbard, Discovered Lying on Sofa in Comatose State Alone in Hubbard Residence
Aged and apparently insane, Mrs. Hannah M. Miller was found lying unconscious at the home of A. J. E. Hubbard, 802 East Platte avenue about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Dr. W. N. Casely was immediately summoned, and the unfortunate woman was removed to St. Francis Hospital. At a late hour last night she had not recovered consciousness and although her condition has improved, it is feared that she will not live.
Mrs. Miller is between 60 and 70 years old. When Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard left home early yesterday morning, she was in unusually good spirits and seemed to be in the best of health.
She was alone in the house all day. Mrs. Hubbard did not return until after 4 o'clock, when she found the woman lying on the sofa, unconscious. Evidences of vomiting were seen about the house.
Dr. Casely, who examined the woman, thinks she is suffering from "acute mental trouble," and that her mind is unbalanced. He considers it a serious case, and doubts whether the patient will revive from her almost comatose condition.
Mrs. Miller has been living with the Hubbards for about two months. She came here from Rush Center, Kansas and has but few friends in this city. Little is known of her history. She has a daughter living in Rush Center and it is said that her husband is in a Kansas asylum.
Mrs. Miller has been working in the Hubbard residence for her room and board. (Gazette-Telegraph, February 11, 1905, page 5)
