GRIER, BRADLEY EBY

Bradley Eby Grier, 27, of 202 Linwood, Wichita State University student, died Saturday, May 19, 1990. Memorial service 10 a.m. Tuesday, First United Methodist Church. HARRIS, A. R.

Funeral services for A. R. Harris, 45, popular Wichita police officer, who died Monday in a local hospital after an illness of three months, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lahey and Martin mortuary. Rev. Will C. McClung, pastor of the First Baptist church will officiate.

Members of the Wichita police force who can be spared from duty at the time will attend the funeral and members of the police auxiliary have been asked by their officers to meet at the mortuary to attend the services in a body.

Burial will be in the Garden Plain cemetery. (Wichita Eagle, December 28, 1931)

HAWKINS, FRANK G.

Stricken en route to his wife’s burial, Frank G. Hawkins, 67 years old, 1625 Winton Avenue, died of a cerebral hemorrhage at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley Hospital.

He was the father of Mrs. Mabel Sites, 2431 East Funston Street, official report in District Judge Thornton W. Sargent’s division.

Mr. Hawkins found his wife dead in bed at their home on the morning of January 15. Funeral services were held on the morning of January 18, a week ago Monday, and while the procession was en route to the cemetery, Mr. Hawkins was stricken, being rushed to the hospital. His life had been in a balance since.

Mr. Hawkins worked at a greenhouse as engineer, his son-in-law, Elmer Sites, having an interest in the concern. Besides his daughter Mr. Hawkins is survived by a son Vernon P. Hawkins.

HINDES, WILLIAM P.

The death of William P. Hindes, 75, Wednesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clinton Dunn, removed one of the pioneer business men of the state. He conducted a lumber business at Lyons for 40 years before his retirement and his removal to Wichita 20 years ago.

Last Monday a double golden wedding anniversary was observed at the Dunn home, the guests of honor being Mr. and Mrs. Hindes and Mrs. Hindes twin sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. William Hupp. A large number of relatives and friends were present.

Mr. Hindes was taken ill Sunday, but felt well enough Monday to take part in the golden wedding celebration. He grew rapidly worse later in the week. The widow, Mrs. Ida Hindes, is quite prominent in Wichita church and charity work, being vice president of the women’s board of Wesley hospital.

Besides the widow, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Ada Elble, East Orange, New Jersey, who is on her way here for the funeral; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Fraker, Golden, Colo., and Mrs. Sarah Hitchcock, Denver, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Betty and Dorothy Dunn.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Cochran-Hammond Funeral Home. (Wichita Eagle, December 11, 1931)

MADDEN, HARRY M.

Harry M. Madden, 63, Graham-Michaelis Corp. accountant, died Saturday, May 19, 1990. Rosary 7 p.m. today. Downing & Lahey Mortuary, service 10 a.m. Tuesday. All Saints Catholic Church.

Survivors: wife, Frances, sons, Charles of Rowland Heights, Calif., Timothy of Derby, Kevin of Andover, daughters, Mary Weiborn of Augusta, Teresa Wright, Elizabeth Harp, both of Wichita, brother, Thomas of Salina, sister, Jane Sherman of Oak Ridge, Tenn., 15 grandchildren. PREUETT, JAMES W.

James W. Preuett, 73, retired Linwood Elementary School principal died Saturday May 19, 1990. Service 2 p.m. Tuesday, Webb Mortuary, Clearwater.

Survivors: wife, Beulah, sons, Jim, Randy both of Wichita, brother, Donald of Lincoln, Mo., sister Dorothy Peterson of Orange, Calif., seven grandchildren. Memorial has been established with the Center for Basic Cancer Research, Kansas State University. (Wichita Eagle, May 21, 1990)

Beulah Marguerite Reid, 73, retired Reid’s pet Shop owner and operator, died Saturday, May 19, 1990. Service 2 p.m. Tuesday. Quiring-Old Mission mortuary. RHOADES, GURLEY T.

Gurley T. Rhoades, 71, 1351 Wellington Place, died Wednesday. Mr. Rhoades was a native of Bonneville, Ind., and came to Wichita 40 years ago. He was in the furniture business on North Main until about five years ago. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Mr. Rhoades is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Robert McVicar, and Mrs. S. H. Withers, of Wichita; Mrs. S. J. Hollister, Addington, Okla., and Mrs. F. D. Dole, Calumet, Okla., and two brothers, J. H., Mountain Air, New Mexico and Maj. John D. Rhoades, Stileville, Ind.

Funeral services for Mr. Rhoades will be held at the Downing Mortuary Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. Will C. McClung, pastor of the First Baptist church will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. (Wichita Eagle, December 31, 1931)

Mary Catherine Stemmons Robert of Houston, formely of Wichita, homemaker, died Saturday, May 19, 1990. Memorial service 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, Houston.

Survivors: husband, Heinz, son, Kerwin Stemmons of Lenexa; daughter Debbie Miller Smith of Kansas City, Kan., Sheri Comstock of Tracy, Calif., Terri Stanton of Houston, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
