Mrs. Hattie B. Gillett of Riverside Township died this morning at her home. She was 70 years old and came to Sedgwick
County about ten years ago from Goodley, Kas. He is survived by her husband, L. J. Gillett, one son, Lewis H. Gillett
and one daughter, Mrs. Bell H. Harsley of Emporia, Kas. She is also survived by three brothers, Hiram Bloomer and
George Quimly all of Alberta, Kas, also by a sister, Mrs. Odie Mercer of Los Angeles, Cal. The funeral services
will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the parlors of the Wichita undertaking Company. Following the

James I. Guest, 32 years old, died Sunday morning as a s result of an accident which occurred Saturday night. He
was struck by a train at 29th Street Saturday night. He is survived by three brothers, two sons and four sisters.
He was employed by the Rock Island railroad prior to his death ever since he was fifteen years old, except twenty
seven months which he served in France. No arrangements have been made as yet for the funeral services. The body

Henry A. Hansen, 45 years old of 208 North Charles Street, died yesterday afternoon at a local hospital. For a
number of years, he had been a car inspector on the railroads over the country. The body will be taken to Gotebo,

Milton William Hartshorn, 64 years old died yesterday at his home 121 Murdock, Ave. after about a year's illness.

A. M. Foster of Wakonda, South Dakota, Mrs. W. B. Link of Wichita, Miss Christie Hartshorn of Washington, D. C.,

Robert Macey Herron, five years old, died at his home 325 North Washington Avenue, this morning. He is survived

HUBBARD, THOMAS

Wellington, Kans., November 8 - Thomas A. Hubbard, vice president of the Wichita Federal Land Bank, died at his
home here at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Death was due to old age.
For the past forty years Mr. Hubbard has been a member of the Kansas Board of Agriculture. He was a member of the
Kansas legislature in the seventies.
Mr. Hubbard has been a resident of Sumner county since 1871. For thirty-five years he lived on a farm. Fifteen
years ago he moved to town. He was the owner of the Rome Park stock farm where he specialized in fine hogs. (Wichita

HUTCHINS, RAYMOND D.
Raymond D. Hutchins, about 26 years old, a soldier of the 35th Division, who was suffering from epilepsy and was
sent by the Home Service Department of the Wichita Red Cross Chapter to the United States Public Service Hospital
at East Norfolk, Mass., recently, is dead from asphyxiation from gas. Hutchins was found unconscious from gas fumes
in a room in Boston, November 5, and died before the ambulance reached the hospital to which he was being taken.
The gas escaped thru an open cock.
News of the death of Mr. Hutchins came to the Wichita Police Department from Michael H. Corwley, superintendent
of police at Boston, who hoped to locate the parents of Hutchins in Wichita.
It was learned thru the Home Service Department of the Red Cross here that Mr. Hutchins is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ed B. Hutchins living near Ashgrove, Mo. The ill soldier came to Wichita some time ago for his health. Thru the
local service department he was sent to the hospital for epileptics at East Norfolk, the only one of its kind in
the country for soldiers and established for the men who have returned from France and the suffering of this nervous
disease.
Mr. Hutchins was very ill while in Wichita and was in the Wichita hospital. His illness was the result of his service

Mrs. Josephine Konecny, 85 years old died this morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. Frank Newbold, 1213 Pierce
Avenue. Besides her daughter she is survived by four sons, Jacob who is now in Austria, Charles of Iowa, Iola,
Frank of Conway Springs, Joe of Cheney. The funeral services will be held Saturday morning from the St. Anthony's
Church at 9 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Calvary cemetery. The Flannagan and Bourman Undertaking Company

Kenneth B. Loba, 35, formerly in the real estate business here was murdered at Mountain Home, Ark., last Thursday
according to a letter received by a West Wichita family today.
Mr. Loba was shot in the back as he sat at the supper table. The shot came thru the window behind him. He died
within two hours.
Bloodhounds were set on the trail of the assassin, who was traced to a point near the Missouri state line, where
he was surrounded by a posse and captured. He proved to be a man with whom Mr. Loba had business troubles.
Mr. Loba left Wichita three years ago. Since that time he has been immigration agent of Mountain Home. His wife

Charles Martin, 28 years old, died last night at a local hospital. He is survived by one sister, who is living
some place in Texas, but as yet no information can be gained as to her address or name. At the time he was taken
ill he was employed as a teamster with the Magnolia Oil Company at Augusta. The body is at the Mueller Undertaking

POWELL, NELLORA
In a bower of flowers, banked almost to the ceiling, the body of Nellora Powell lay Tuesday afternoon at the Powell
home on Circle Drive, while hundreds of friends gathered for the funeral service. Seldom if ever, have floral tributes
been more lavish and beautiful in Wichita, than for this young woman. The body in a white casket reposed in the
bow windows of the dining room. Masses of roses, chrysanthemums and set pieces of flowers all but covered the casket.
Here and there in the midst of f the flowers were pictures of Nellora from babyhood to young womanhood. In a pink
satin evening dress veiled in tulle and with a single American Beauty rose clasped in her hands, she appeared to
be asleep lying in the room where she had been gracious hostess on innumerable occasions to her friends. Above
her head a canary in a white wicker cage hung in the midst of the flowers and sang a last serenade.
The living room and reception hall were also filled with flowers, among which was a bleeding heart, fashioned of
red and white roses, sent by the Masons.
The services were conducted by Rev. Percy T. Fenn of St. John's Church and Rev. Andrew M. Brodie of the First Presbyterian
Church, who paid beautiful tributes to the dead girl. A male quartet composed of C. H. Knight, Lucius Ades, Hazlett
Maria and Harry W. Stanley sang "Lead Kindly Light." Mrs. Eisle Randle Needles and Mr. Ades sang "Whispering
Hope," and a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Alex Hyde. Mrs. Needles, Mr. Ades and Mr. Stanley, sang "Crossing
the Bar."
Interment was made in the family plot in Mable Grove Cemetery. The body of Miss Powell was placed next to that
of her brother the late Clarence Powell.
Yesterday the city commission of which Mayor John L. Powell is a m ember met and passed resolutions of condolence

Mr. Rogers was a pioneer of this county, having come here in 1883 settling at Colwich. E moved to Wichita twelve
years ago and has made his home here since that time. He was a member of the Friends Church and of the Garfield
Post of the G. A. R.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, one son and by sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. (Wichita

DERBY - Branstetter, R. Deane, was born on June 29, 1918. He grew up on an 80
acre farm in Curryville, Mo. Deane graduated from the NE Missouri State Teacher's College in 1936 with a BS in
Mathematics. It was there that he met Geraldine Gehrke whom he married and celebrated 62 years of marriage until
her death in 2005. During WWII, Deane served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps. After the war, he continued
his graduate studies, completing his Masters at Vanderbilt University and his PhD in Mathematics at Iowa State
University. His career then took him to Colorado Springs where he worked for the Air Defense Command as an Operations
Analyst. After 2 years, he made a career change and moved his family to San Diego where he taught mathematics at
San Diego State College for 26 years. In 1967 he was honored with the Distinguished Teaching Award by the State
of California. The students at San Diego State also awarded him with an Outstanding Teacher Award. Professor Branstetter
served as a member of the Statewide Academic Senate and served as chairman of the San Diego State College Senate.
Besides teaching, he served for a time as the Mathematics Department Chairman and as Dean of Undergraduate Studies
for the College. He retired from teaching at San Diego State in 1981. Retirement led to touring much of the world
and teaching as a guest professor at many Universities. He taught Probability and Statistics for 10 years at Brigham
Young University and also had assignments for teaching a semester in Hawaii and at Kansas State University. At
BYU he was active as a volunteer in helping students prepare for their Actuarial exams. BYU granted him the rank
of Professor Emeritus and recognized him for outstanding service to the universi ty. In 2003, Deane and his wife
Gerry moved to Kansas to be near their daughter, Karen Nelsen and her husband, Dr. Brent E Nelsen of Derby. Deane
Branstetter belonged to Phi Sigma Epsilon, Sigma Xi, and Phi Mu Epsilon. He was a past president of Blue Key service
organization at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. He was an outstanding husband and father and was loved
and admired by all who knew him. Deane Branstetter was preceded in death by parents, George Jackson and Rosa (Hansen)
Branstetter; sister, Marjorie Hagan and a son, Duane Branstetter.
Survivors: children and their spouses, Dennis and Judi Branstetter, Rice, WA, Karen & Dr. Brent Nelsen, Derby,

Steven Allen McIntosh, 21, of Derby, passed away Tuesday from an extended illness.
Family members provided some of the following information.
Steven was a chemical engineering student at Kansas State University. He was an avid sportsman and skeet shooter.
During high school, he played for the Derby High School soccer team.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman and Bernice Hicks.
Survivors include his parents, Gregory and Joyce McIntosh, of Derby; sisters, Kathryn Sue (Nicholas) Mendenhall
and Rebecca Lynn McIntosh, both of Derby; grandparents, Robert and Sue McIntosh, Springfield, Mo.; aunts and uncles,

Bonnie was born June 23, 1943 in Coffeyville, KS, the daughter of Glen and Gyneth (Childers) Folk. On October 22, 1968 she married Ronald L. Moore in Miami, OK. Bonnie was a resident of Derby for 33 years where she owned and operated B & R Interiors for 23 years.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Jacqueta Adams. Survivors
