Gerald E. Callaway, 80, retired farmer and stockman, died Tuesday, April 3, 1990. Service 3 p.m. Thursday, First Christian Church, Clearwater.

Survivors: wife, Pauline; sons, Ron of Clearwater, Farrell of Peck, Kent of Mulvane; brother, Karl of Clearwater; nine grandchildren; six great- grandchildren. Memorial has been established with First Christian Church. Webb Mortuary, Clearwater.

CALLAWAY, PAULINE M.

Callaway, Pauline M., 92, retired Sedgwick County Feed Yards secretary and co-owner, former Clearwater Equipment Inc. secretary and bookkeeper and school teacher, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001. Visitation 12 to 8 p.m. today, Webb Mortuary; service 11 a.m. Tuesday, First Christian Church.

Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Betty Callaway of Wichita, Farrell and Barbara Callaway of Peck, Kent and Sharon Callaway of Mulvane; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Memorial established with First Christian Church.

MATHES, MERIDITH L.

Mathes, Dr. M.L., 63, DVM, large animal veterinarian, died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996. Service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Colonial Heights Assembly of God Church, Wichita.

Survivors: sons, Dana of Lake Jackson, Texas, Darcy of Wichita; brother, Wayne of Worthington, Ind.; sister, Ona Coburn of San Rafael, Calif.; three grandchildren. Memorial has been established with Colonial Heights Assembly of God Church. Broadway Mortuary, Wichita.

STARNES, MRS. ETTA

Mrs. Etta Starnes, wife of Mr. Elmer Starnes, passed away Sunday morning at 12 o'clock, after a very brief illness. She was a member of Silver Leaf Court No.11, Heroines of Jericho, and of Jeptha chapter No. 47, O. E. S., both of Argentine. Funeral services and burial services will be in Wichita, Kansas, on Friday, Dec. 11, with the Wichita chapter in charge of burial services. Wichita was Mrs. Starnes former home.

TUCKER, HENRY. C. DR.

H. C. Tucker, physician and surgeon, farmer, Section 14, P. O. Derby was born in Chester County, Pa., in 1833, son of John and Mary A. Tucker. He married in 1861, Miss Mary J. Clark, daughter of Justin and Mary Minnick Clark. They have two children, Marietta and Robert H. Mr. Tucker was educated at New Philadelphia and New Hagerstown, Ohio, commenced the study of medicine in 1855 with Dr. E. P. Buel, attended lectures at the National Medical College in Washington, D. C., in 1858 and 1859, and commenced the practice of medicine in 1859. He was in the War of the Rebellion, enlisting in 1864, in the One Hundred and Sixty-first Ohio Volunteer, Company A. He was made Assistant Surgeon of the Regiment, served in that capacity until September 1864, when he was mustered out of the service. He came to Kansas in 1871, and located on his farm which he still owns. He has been engaged in farming and the practice of medicine since that time. He also owns a residence and drug store at El Paso. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and of Wichita Lodge, No. 99, A, F. & A. M., of El Paso Lodge, No. 112. I. O. O. F., and of Encampment. No. 53, of the Old Settlers' Association. He has been Postmaster of El Paso for eight years.

STILES, FREDA ALLEY

Former Postmaster of Derby, Sedgwick County, KS

CHEROKEE, NC - Stiles, Freda Alley, 96, passed away on Jan. 3, 2010. Born in Rose Hill, she was a daughter of the late Claude M. and Sarah Zoe Olmstead Alley. After retiring as Postmaster of Derby, in 1972 she and her husband moved to a frequent vacation area, the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, to spend the rest of their years. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Stiles; a sister; a brother; a sister-in-law; and a nephew. She is survived by a niece, a great-niece and several great-nephews. A special niece, Betty Zoe Fultz of Derby moved to Cherokee to be near Freda and Bob. A memorial service was held on Jan. 6, 2010 at the Woodland Church of Christ of which she was a member. Ministers Willard Cox and Bob Rigdon officiated. Freda will be greatly missed by her many friends. Memorials to the Woodland Church of Christ Building Fund at PO Box 261, Webster, NC 28788. (Submitted by Kyle Condon)

McCOY, S. W.

S. W. McCoy, attorney, was born in 1813, in Greene County, O., son of John an Ann Wade McCoy, was married in 1835 to Miss Charlotte Pollock, daughter of Robert and Mary Pollock, has two children, Mary A. and John W., wife died in 1839; was married in 1848 to Miss Anna Stewart. She died, 1870; was married in 1874 to Mrs. Lucinda Galloway Mounts, daughter of James and Nancy Galloway. She had one child by former marriage, James F. which has been adopted by Mr. McCoy. Came to Kansas in 1873, located at Wichita, engaged in practice of law. In 1874 was burned out losing his entire library, clothing etc. He then moved to El Paso, and has been engaged in farming and the practice of law from that time. He was educated in Greene County, O., commenced reading the law in 1846, was admitted to practice in 1856, has been Justice of the Peace in El Paso for two years, is member of the School Board, and Treasurer of the school district, is Notary Public, was deputy Provost Marshal during the late war, made the enrollment of five townships in Mercer County, Ill., is a member of the United Presbyterian Church. Took the census in Greene County, O., in 1856. (Submitted by Kyle M. Condon)

Paul B. Shipley, 75, of 324 Howe, Sun Supply Co. owner, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1987. Service: 3 p.m. Thursday, Broadway Christian Church. Survivors: wife, Mary; son, David of Cedaredge, Colo.; sisters, Virgina Hall of Wichita, Hana Pearl Alexander of Arcadia, Calif., Mary Lou Lewallen of Winfield.
