MOTHER DEAD, BABY THRIVES
A 3-day-old Wichita infant, whose mother died Monday morning, was in good condition Tuesday night at Wesley Hospital.
The baby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gould, 1213 N. Hardy, weighed about 8 pounds when born Saturday night.
The little girl's mother, Mrs. Joan Rebecca Gould, 30, suffered a brain hemorrhage Friday evening.
GIRL NOT NAMED
The youngster's father said the girl had not been named yet.
Mrs. Gould is the former Joan McKee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. McKee, 1033 S. Ash.
Her husband said she drove a few blocks Friday evening to get some Christmas wrappings.
"She returned and drove into the front yard and honked the car horn for help," he said.
Gould said he rushed out and found her under the steering wheel. He took her into the house, then to the Wesley Hospital emergency room.
The husband said Friday's stroke was the first sign of trouble. "She had taken a physical examination the day before and appeared in good health," Gould said.
He said doctors later indicated she may have been suffering from an ulcer which could have caused complications.
Mrs. Gould was a 1955 graduate of the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Delta Gamma, social sorority. She also was chosen Miss United Nations at KU.
She also was one of the pioneer workers in the electronic processing data equipment for Boeing, working in Wichita and Seattle, Wash.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Besides the widower and parents, survivors include the infant daughter, another daughter, Rebecca, of the home; a brother, Allan, 1033 S. Ash; her grandfather, Harry F. Waldrip, 1017 N. Terrace, and her grandmother, Mrs. Carrie McKee, Wellington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery.
Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home has charge.
