Seward County was organized in 1886. It was named for William H. Seward, a New Yorker who served as Secretary of State for Abraham Lincoln; besides the cities listed at the left, the communities of Arkalon, Hayne, Fargo Springs and Springfield lie within the boundaries of Seward County.
