Scranton.--Robert L. Blair, 85, Scranton, died Saturday in an Overbrook rest home.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Beulah May Warner and Orpha Jane Warner, both of Boulder, Colo., and Elva Eva Gagnelin, Coffeyville; one son, Robert R. Blair, 3211 W. 10th; two sisters, Mrs. Mayme Leishman, 2207 Martin Court, and Mrs. Sadie Sutherin, 737 Saline; and three brothers, Hunter Blair, 1031 Parkview, William Blair, 1708 Webster and George Blair, Sterling.

CANADAY, ROSS C.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery for Ross C. Canaday, 82, 2339 Ohio, who died Monday at the home of a sister, Mrs. Opal Humphries Reece, San Bernardino, Calif.

He was born July 17, 1883, in Gentry County, Mo., and spent most of his life in Topeka.

Besides his sister, survivors include a brother, James H. Canaday, Sunrise Beach, Mo.

CLARK, NELLIE MAY

Mrs. Nellie May Clark, 119 N. Quinton, died Thursday at a Topeka hospital after a long illness.

She was born Feb. 1, 1878 in Cass County, Mo., and spent most of her life in Topeka. She was a member of Gage Park Wesleyan Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher many years. She was president of the Kansas Wesleyan Missionary Society more than 25 years.

Her husband, Frank P. Clark, died in 1925.

Survivors include a son, Wesley P. Clark, St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Wesley Wilson, 1314 Medford; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

CLEMENTS, RUSSEL R.

Russell R. Clements, 56, 328 Klein, died Tuesday at his home.

Dr. Robert L. Braunsdorf, deputy district coroner, said the death apparently was from natural causes.

He was born Feb. 25, 1909, at Kirklin, Ind., and was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Roe Hawkins, Kirklin, and Mrs. Mary Runyan, Kokomo, Ind.; two brothers, Chester Clements, Kirklin, and Clifford Clements, Peru, Ind.

Services Set For Mrs. Duff, 73, of Topeka.

Services for Mrs. Rhoda May Duff, 73, 711 Garfield, will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Penwell-Gabel Chapel with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Duff died Saturday in a Topeka hospital.

She was born Dec. 10, 1891, west of Topeka. Mrs. Duff attended the Potwin Presbyterian Church and was a charter member and past president of VFW Post Auxiliary 1650.

GODLOVE, NELLIE DARLING

Mrs. Nellie Darling Godlove, 80, 2240 Jewell, died Monday morning at her home.

She was born Sept. 2, 1884 at Havensville, and lived at Soldier before moving to Topeka in 1947.

Mrsr. Godlove was a member of the Methodist Church at Havensville.

Her husband, Isaac Godlove, died in 1947.

Survivors include three daughters, Eva Godlove, of the home; Mrs. Lucille Meyer, 1805 Burnett Road, and Mrs. Edith Brenner, Robinson; a son, Earl Godlove, Maitland, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.

Uma Graham, 71, Dies Here

Uma L. Graham, 71, 710 Lindenwood, died Saturday in a local hospital after a long illness.

She was born Oct. 6, 1893, at Alberton, Iowa. She had been a resident of Topeka since 1955. She was a member of Potwin Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin B. Graham, of the home; one son, Delbert Graham, 721 Vesper; one daughter, Alice Hummel, Wichita; two brothers, Olen Breese, Williford, Ark., and Harry Breece, Girard and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Hurwitz, 62, Is Dead In Lawrence

Lawrence.--Mrs. Fannie Hurwitz, 62, Lawrence, formerly of Topeka, died Saturday at a Lawrence hospital after a short illness.

She lived in Topeka before moving to Lawrence in 1920.

Mrs. Hurwitz was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Jewish Community Center, and American Legion Auxiliary, all at Lawrence.

Survivors include her husband, Samuel Hurwitz of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Kemish, Milford, Conn.; a son, Eugene Hurwitz, Prairie Village; a sister, Mrs. Selma Eneloff, Kansas City, Mo.; five brothers, Sam Cohen, 530 Danbury Lane, Ralph Cohen, 525 Topeka, Joseph Cohen, 1352 Campbell, Cyrus Cohen, 1170 Woodhul, and Lewis Cohen, 3633 Holly Lane; and five grandchildren.

LNGAFELT, LULU B.

Services Planned For Mrs. Lingafelt.

Graveside services for Mrs. Lulu B. Lingafelt, 93, 1135 College, will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Topeka Cemetery. She died Tuesday at the Methodist Home after an extended illness.

She was born April 3, 1872, in Topeka, the daughter of early settlers, James and Ruth Ann Glazier Brewer. The family home was at 1027 Western for many years.
Mrs. Lingafelt studied music in New York. In the 1890's her singing was much in demand in Topeka and later, Oklahoma City. She was a soloist at the First Methodist Church and carried leading parts in many musical productions.

She married Arthur R. Lingafelt Oct. 18, 1895. After being with the Rock Island Railroad in Topeka for a time, he was associated with the Western Union Telegraph Company in Chicago. He was superintendent for the Western Union in Oklahoma until he retired.

While in Oklahoma, Mrs. Lingafet was an active golfer, winning the Women's Golf Assn. state championship several years. After Mr. Lingafelt's death in 1922, she moved to Los Angeles to live with her two brothers. The Los Angeles Chapter of the Red Cross awarded her a citation for meritorious service in 1946.

She returned to Topeka in 1950 and entered the Methoidst Home in May 1954.

Survivors include a niece, Mrs. E.M. Waldele, 5010 W. 26th; a nephew, Perry C. Brewer, Leawood, Kan.

GRINDOL, KATE

Kate Grindol, 78, Grantville, Dies In Topeka

Mrs. Kate Grindol, 78, Grantville, died Saturday while working in a Topeka store as a hostess.

She was born Dec. 15, 1887, in Burden and lived in Grantville most of her life.

She was a member of Grantville Methodist Church.

Her husband, Ralph Grindol, died in 1951.

Survivors include a son, David, of the home; a sister, Mrs. Lee Johnson, Portland, Ore.; a step-brother, Tom Mendenhall, Grantville; and a step-sister, Mrs. Mary McKinney, Palo Alto, Calif.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Grantville Methodist Church with burial in Grantville Cemetery.

LINGREN, MINNIE

Holton.--Services for Mrs. Minnie Lingren, 91, Meriden, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Meriden Methodist Church with burial in Meriden Cemetery. She died Wednesday in a hospital here after a short illness.

She was born July 20, 1874, in Holt County, Missouri. She had lived in the Meriden community since 1903.

Her husband, Charles Lingren, died in 1941.

Survivors include a son, Frank B. Lingre, Route 5, Topeka; a daughter, Mrs. Bell Parker, Humboldt, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Bert West, Meriden; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Ray F. Lomond, 76, Is Dead in Lyndon

Lyndon.--Ray F. Lomond, 76, died at his home here Saturday after a short illness.

He was born July 13, 1889, near Lyndon and had lived in the Lyndon community all his life. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include three sisters; Mrs. Vera Harris, Gardena, Calif., Mrs. Mae Mitchell, Rosemead, Calif., and Mrs. Una Hughes, Godesberg, Germany; two brothers, Arthur Raymond, Lyndon, and Allan Raymond, Artesia, Calif.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Lyndon Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery.

NOLTE, CATHERINE

Mrs. C. Nolte, Valley Falls, Is Dead at 79

Valley Falls.--Mrs. Catherine Nolte, 79, Valley Falls died Wednesday at a Winchester hospital.

She was born Nov. 7, 1885, in the Mooney Creek community near Nortonville and had lived in the Valley Falls area since 1940. Earlier she lived on farms in the Seneca and Horton communities.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and Altar Society at Valley Falls.

She was married to Charles J. Nolte, June 18, 1912. He died May 21, 1964.

Survivors include a son, Vincent Nolte, Atchison; a daughter, Mrs. Lorene Darling, Norwood, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Browning, and Sister Amata, both of Atchison; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

M. O'Gara, 85, Dies in Topeka

Maurice O'GARA, Sr., 85, 210 MacVicar, died Sunday in a Topeka hospital.

He was born August 1, 1880, at Florence in Marion County. He was an operating engineer at the city water plant 47 years.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, of the home; two sons, Maurice O'Gara, Jr., 717 Roosevelt, and Robert S. O'Gara, Hays; a daughter, Mrs. Edwin Pitt, 1825 Randolph; a stepson, William Boyd, Spanaway, Wash.; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. A. Oliver Dies at Home

Mrs. Amy Ethel Oliver, 77, died Saturday at the Methodist Home, 1135 College, where she had lived since February 1958.

She was born Nov. 13, 1887 in Hocking County, Ohio. She formerly lived at 1241 Boswell. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Beulah Chapter No. 34, Order of Eastern Star.

Her husband, Rev. John N. Oliver, died in 1952.

Survivors include three stepsons, James R. Oliver, 1310 Boswell, W.K. Oliver, Webster Groves, Mo., and John Oliver, New York City; and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Sara Jean Moorehead, Washington, D.C.

Edna Patch Services Set For Monday

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home for Mrs. Edna M. Patch, 76, 1023 Taylor, who died Saturday at a Lyndon nursing home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 5, 1888 near Auburn and spent most of her life in the Topeka community. She was a member of the Four-square Church.

PATTERSON, ALBERTA

Mrs. Patterson, 91, Dies; Rites Pending

Mrs. Alberta Patterson, 91, 2349 Massachusetts, died Wednesday at a Topeka hospital after a long illness.

She was born Jan. 23, 1874 in Mississippi and had lived in Topeka more than 40 years. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and was a member of the Deaconess Board and the Aid Society at the church. She was a member of Golden Eagle Art Club, Grand Army of Republic and Bethany Chapter No. 7, Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Patterson, at home; two sons, Virgil Patterson, at home, and Clifford Patterson, Chicago, Ill., three sisters, Mrs. Mary Nichols, Mrs. Amanda Thompson and Lucinda Williams, all of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

SNYDER, MARGARET W.

Services for Mrs. Margaret Snyder, 39, Meriden, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Meriden with burial in the Meriden cemetery. She died of cancer Tuesday in a Topeka hospital.

She was born Feb. 12, 1926, at Great Bend and spent most of her life in the Topeka and Meriden communities.

Survivors include her husband, S.Sgt. Robert F. Snyder, of the home; a son, Daryel Woodward, Emporia; a daughter, Janet Woodward, Meriden; a granddaughter, Angela Kae Woodward, Emporia; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Westbrook, Meriden; a sister, Mrs. Julia Mae Hasty, 452 Corco Road; and two brothers, 706 Freeman, and Cecil Westbrook, Meriden.

SPARKS, LEVIN M. "LEE"

Sickness at Home Fatal to L. Sparks

Levin M.(Lee) Sparks, 69, was dead on arrival at a Topeka hospital Tuesday after becoming ill at his home, 1824 Central Park.

He was born Jan. 17, 1896 at Newkirk, Okla., and had lived in Topeka since January 1918. He served more than 43 years with Santa Fe Railway, including 25 years in the store department. He retired March 9, 1961.

He was a member of the Christian Church, Orient Lodge No. 51, AF&AM, and Beulah Chapter No. 34, Order of Eastern Star.

A son, Merle E. Sparks, died in 1957.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elsie Sparks, of the home; a son, Chester D. Sparks, Dighton; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia R. Gaddis, Ketchum, Okla., and Mrs. Joan L. Revelle, 2802 Seward; two brothers, Oliver Sparks, Raytown, Mo., and Earl S. Sparks, South Dakota; a sister, Mrs. Stella Bixler, Emporia; and nine grandchildren.

TEASLEY, LENA

Mrs. Lena Teasley, 1048 Boswell, died Sunday in a Topeka hospital following a long illness.

She was born at Tecumshe, Okla., and had lived in Topeka, since 1946.

Her husband, Sgt. Alonzo Teasley, died in March 1959.

Mrs. Teasley is survived by a brother, Lee T. (Barney) Porter, 1416 Washington; three sisters, Cherry Collins, 1314 Indiana, Mrs. Versie Lee Thatcher, Leavenworth, and Annie Mae Porter, Leavenworth.

R.M. Trimble, Rock Creek, Is Dead at 77

Valley Falls.--Robert M. Trimble, 77, Rock Creek, died Friday at his home in Rock Creek after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 24, 1888, at Nortonville. Mr. Trimble farmed near Rock Creek all his life, retiring in 1961.

He was a member of Evangelical United Brethren Church at Rock Creek.

Survivors include his wife, Bess, of the home; a son, Fred Trimble, Meriden, and two grandsons.

Eva Tutcher Is Dead at 88

Mrs. Eva E. Tutcher, 88, Overbrook, died Thursday at a Topeka hospital.

She was born Aug. 5, 1876 in Franklin County. She was a member of Church of the Brethren and Hurricane Grange.

She was married to Thomas M. Tutcher in 1894. He died in 1950.

Survivors include a son, R.E. Tutcher, Overbrook; a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Schroder, Overbrook; a sister, Nettie Eaton, Ponca City, Okla., two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

TURNER, STELLA

Holton.--Services for Mrs. Stella Turner, 80, Holton, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home here with burial in Holton Cemetery. She died Monday at her home here after a short illness.

She was born Sept. 13, 1884, near Holton. She lived in Jackson County all her life.

WEBER, EVALENA BYLAND

Mrs. Weber, 94, Dies Here After Illness

Mrs. Evalena Byland Weber, 94, 1224 Morningside Drive, died Sunday in a Topeka hospital after a long illness.

She was born June 16, 1871, at Walton, Ky. She moved to Larned in 1900 and lived there before moving to Topeka in 1959. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, and the Mother Church of Boston, Mass.

Her husband, G.C. Weber died in 1955. Survivors include a granddaughter, Mrs. Dosca Smithson, Lewis; a grandson, Frank Weber, Larned; three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

WHALEN, DENNY

Denny Whalen Is Dead at 85

Osage City.--Denny Whalen, 85, Osage City, died Sunday at the home of a son here.

He was born Feb. 20, 1880 at Osage City and was a life long resident here. He was a retired farmer and coal miner.

Mr. Whalen was a member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sons, James Whalen, Ernest Whalen and Donald Whalen, a daugther, Mrs. Katherine Burger and a brother, Robert Whalen, all of Osage City; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church here with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Osage City. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at McElfresh and Son Mortuary here. (The Topeka Daily Capital, Monday, May 24, 1965, transcribed by Jim Laird)
