AMACK, ANTHONY
Anthony Amack, 29, Goodland, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at his home.
He was born March 3, 1977, in Goodland to Ronnie Ray and JoAnn (Felzien) Amack. He was a 1995 graduate of Goodland High School.
He was an employee of Kansas Department of Transportation.
Survivors include a son, Jacob Ray Amack; a daughter, Christiana Amack, Hays; his father Goodland; his mother, Columbus; a brother, Adam Amack, Goodland; a sister, Amy Amack, KansasCity, Mo.; and a grandmother, Deana Stasser, Goodland.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bernard Amack and Arlene and Kenneth Felzein.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Mountain time Thursday at Koons Chapel, Goodland; burial in Goodland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Mountain time today at chapel.

BIGGS, GERTRUDE ELIZABETH
Kimberling City, Missouri, resident Gertrude Elizabeth Biggs, 91, peacefully left this earth Friday, January 23, 2009, at Table Rock Healthcare in Kimberling City.
She was a former Goodland, Kansas resident.
She was born May 19, 1917, at Fairfax, South Dakota, the daughter of Valentine and Margaret "Maggie" (Schlepp) Peters. She attended Sherman Community High School.
On May 21, 1939, she and Virgil Wright Biggs were married at Colby, Kansas, and they made their home together in Goodland and St. Francis.
She was member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Goodland.
Preceding her in death were her husband Virgil W. Biggs; son John; son-in-law Jack Vaughn; grandson Anthony Ross Biggs; her parents; and siblings Howard, Fred, Leonard, Rudy, Alice, Emma, and Florence.
Surviving family includes two sons Reverend Darrell Biggs and his wife Rowe Ann of Girard, KS; Claire Biggs and his wife Norma of Kimberling City, MO; daughter Ardith Ann Vaughn of Thornton, CO; seven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister Alma Connely of Wichita.
The memorial service will be Wednesday, January 28, at 10:30 AM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Reverend Carol Jolly officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

BOARDMAN, DOROTHY IONE
Dorothy Ione (Woodward-Mull) Boardman, 84, of Lawrence, passed away June 17, 2004, at the Midland Hospice Care Center in Topeka. Funeral services were held at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. She was born in Belvoir, Kansas, January 28, 1920, to Ira Carl and Iska Helen Woodward. She worked for her room and board to attend and graduate from Lawrence High School. A lifelong resident of Kansas with a brief detour to New Mexico, she called Lawrence, the Kansas City area and Goodland her home. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy F. Mull of Lawrence, Kansas and her second husband, John C. Boardman of Mission, Kansas. She is survived by her six children: John Mull of Auburn, Massachusetts, Jan Fitzgerald of Liberal, Kansas, Jim Mull ofGoodland, Beth Waln of Shawnee, Dale Boardman of Olathe and Paul Boardman of Shawnee. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Kaarin (Mull) Vaughan, Andrea Mull and Kyle Mull, Scott, Kevin and Kirk Zwink, Jessica and Rachael Lucas, Derek and Devlin Mull and James and Kristen Waln. She has five great-grandchildren: Ariel Mull, Tireena Moore, Brandt Mull, Baily Mull and Brock Mull. She also leaves behind two brothers, Howard Woodward of Mission and Donald Woodward of Lawrence and one sister, Alice Harrison of Houston, numerous nieces and nephews and her close friends and in-laws, Bob and Wanda Mull. Finally she is survived by countless others who her as a second "Mom" or as "Granny." BOCK, EDWARD H.
Edward Henry Bock, 88, Topeka, formerly of Kansas City, Kan., died Feb. 2, 1994, at a hospital in Topeka. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka; entombment in the Mount Hope Cemetery mausoleum, Topeka.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Brennan-Mathena Chapel, Topeka, where the rosary will be said by the Knights of Columbus at 6:30 p.m. and prayer services will be at 7 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Helping Hands Humane Society, Topeka. Mr. Bock was born in Goodland, Kan., and lived in Kansas City, Kan., before moving to Topeka in 1951. He worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 37 years, retiring as a personnel supervisor in the accounting department in 1966. He received a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Kansas in 1928.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of the church. His wife, Dorothy Smith Bock, died in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Fortin, Independence, and Judy Carey, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. (The Kansas City Star, February 3, 1994)
BURTON, SCOTT L.
Scott L. Burton, 35, midtown Kansas City, died Dec. 12, 1991, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was born in Goodland, Kan., and moved to Kansas City in 1980. Mr. Burton worked at Children's Mercy Hospital since 1983 and was a facility planner.
He received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kan., in 1979. He received a master's degree in public administration at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1983. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Survivors include his father and stepmother, C. Clayton and Myrna Burton of Chanute, Kan.; his mother and stepfather, Joanna and Jarvis E. Young of Hutchinson, Kan.; two brothers, David Burton, Broomfield, Colo., and Shawn Burton, Burlington, Colo.; two sisters, Suzanne Marks, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Nancy DeHaro, El Paso, Texas; and his paternal grandmother, Marie A. CAIN, FRED A.
Fred A. Cain, 52, Missouri City in Clay County, died May 6, 1992, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Missouri City Christian Church; burial in the Missouri City Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Church-Archer-Pasley Chapel. Mr. Cain was born in Enid, Okla., and lived in Newton and Goodland in Kansas before moving to this area 20 years ago. He was a truck driver for the Amoco Oil Co. before he retired. Earlier he worked for the Kaw Transport Co. He was an Air Force veteran. He served on the board of directors of the Clay County Rotational Softball Association. He was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Cain of th e home; five sons, Roger Cain of the home and Chuck Cain, Brad Cain, Tony Cain and Fred Cain of Newton; a daughter, Lisa Cain of the home; his father and stepmother, Cecil and Irene Cain of Coffeyville, Kan.; a sister, Delores Hill, Shawnee; two half brothers, Eddie Lett, Liberty, and Robert Cain, Coffeyville; three half sisters, Treva Lindsey and Sharon Lett of Enid and Barbara Amann, Coffeyville; and two grandchildren. CHILD, HAZEL MARIE ADAMS
On Mothers Day, May 10, 1996, our beautiful mother and grandmother slipped the bonds of earth and returned to her Eternal home.
Hazel Marie Adams was born on October 13, 1898 in Goodland, Kansas to Paris Adams and Mary Elizabeth Vogel. During her 97 years she lived in a sod house on the Kansas Prairie, rode in a stage coach and attended a one-room school house. Later she flew in a jet plane and saw a man walk on the moon.
When she was 16 she came to Salt Lake City and married William Child on August 2, 1915. Two sons were born to this union: Bruce (deceased) and Wallace (Frieda). William died October 17, 1922.
She was sealed to Harry Child April 22, 1925 in the Salt Lake Temple. Five children were born to them, all of whom survive: Eugene (Arvilla), Brandt (Venice), Joyce (Ralph) Frasier, Barbara Robison, Mary Beth (Jack) Lauritzen. Also survived by two sisters: Thara Thornton and Billie McPeak, and a brother, Laddie Martin. She is grandmother to 35; great-grandmother to 75 and great-great-grandmother to nine. Preceded in death by her son, Bruce, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a brother, Jack, and a special daughter-in-law, Lue.
Following our Mother's wishes, graveside services will be held at the Bountiful Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 17.

COLEMAN, LOWELL
Chief Coleman Loses Brother In Battle - Chief W. R. Coleman of the Miami fire department received the sad news yesterday of the death of his young brother, Lowell Coleman, of Goodland, Kans., who was killed in battle in France during the reent advance of the allies.
Young Coleman enlisted from Kansas some time ago. He was only twenty years of age. (Miami Herald Record, Augsut 11, 1918, page 1)
CRUMBAKER, DON
Crumbaker, Don, was born to Charles and Adda Belle Crumbaker on December 30, 1918. He was the fourth child of eleven children. Don spent his childhood years on a dairy farm at Onaga,Kansas. He attended Kansas State and played football. He was an All Big 6 tight end and played in the East-West game in 1940. He graduated from Kansas State in 1941 and enlisted in the Tunney Athletic Development program of the Navy in late August of 1941. He served in the Navy on an Australian cruiser as a Liason officer for 18 months in New Guinea and the Philippines. After returning to civilian duty in 1946, Don attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and received a Master's degree in plant breeding. After graduation, he worked at the Colby Experiment Station in Colby, Kansas, and in October of 1950, he accepted the managerial position of Marshall Farms south of Brewster, Kansas. His public service started with the Brewster School Board, and in 1967, he was elected as chairman of the Board of Trustees of Colby Community College. He was President of the Kansas Association of School Boards from 1968-1970. In 1970, he was elected to the Kansas State House of Representatives and served as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Education Committee for 15 years. He served in the Legislature from 1970 until his retirement in 1992. Don had a vision for education in Kansas and to make higher education a choice for students in the Western part of Kansas. His commitment earned him the title "Mr. Community College" in 1992. Don received many prestigious awards, including the Governor's Award for the Kansas State High School Activities Association, Kansas Teacher's Hall of Fame, and the Friend of Education Award. The award that was on of the most meaningful was the Honorary Associate of Arts degree given by Colby Community College. He was a member of the Lion's club for 50 years and a member of the Brewster United Methodist Church. Don married Dorothy Dawn Stagg on May 22, 1941, and she survives. Other survivors are his children: Jo Ann Daniels and husband Marvin of Liberal, Kansas; Ray Crumbaker and wife Linda of Brewster, Kansas; and Jane Keck of Brewster, Kansas. Also surviving Don are 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Surviving sisters and brothers are: Frances Moyer, Manhattan, KS; Evan Crumbaker, Wamego, KS; Nada Belle McCool, Wamego, KS; Ardath Murray, Bartlesville, OK; Bobbie Peters, Overland Park, KS; Carol Adolph, Manhattan, KS; and Marge Knorr, Olathe, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were 2 sisters, Helen Dent and Dorothy Shandy and one brother, Dale Crumbaker. Don passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, KS, at the age of 85. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Northwest Kansas Cultural Arts Center/Frahm Theater on the campus of Colby Community College. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2004 at the Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel in Colby. Memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to benefit the CCC Scholarship Fund or the Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland. DARNAUER, DAVID W.
David William Darnauer, 53, a resident of Wheaton, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Central DuPage Hospital
in Winfield. He was born Nov. 26, 1949, in Goodland, Kan.
He worked for Campus Crusade for Christ from 1971 to 1975; as a Kansas grain farmer from 1975 to 1992; in John
Deere sales from 1992 to 2000; for Open Door for Teens from 2001 to 2003; and was self-employed in home repair
from 2001 to 2003.
In Goodland, Kan., he was a member of the Gideons, the First Methodist Church and choir, the Sherman County Fair Board, the Goodland Rotary, the Kansas Livestock Association, the Goodland Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Crop Improvement Association.
In Wheaton, he was involved in the Sojourners Adult Community of the Wheaton Bible Church, Open Door for Teens
and the Wheaton College Thunder Boosters Club.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (Elwell) Darnauer; two daughters, Jennifer (husband Craig) Dodge and Julia Darnauer;
a son, Jeff Darnauer; a future daughter-in-law, Kristi Stark; his father-in-law, Frank Elwell; two sisters, Ruth
Ann (husband Ed) Oystol and Jeannette (husband Rob) Merritt; a brother-in-law, Jim (wife Ellen) Elwell; and a sister-in-law,
Carol (husband David) Pearce.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Esther Darnauer; and his mother-in-law, Connie Elwell.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at Wheaton Bible Church, at Main and Franklin streets.
A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the church, with the Rev. James Draper officiating.
Interment will be at Wheaton Cemetery.

Mrs. Edlund was born in Goodland, KS, and had lived in the Kansas City area most of her life. She worked for
the Economic Opportunity Foundation and left there as the director in 1971. Eileen was also a partner in the Edlund
Hardware Store for many years. She was very active in the National Federation of the Blind. Survivors include her
husband, Richard J. Edlund, of the home; three sons, Jack Miller, Fargo, ND, Jim Miller, Atlanta, GA, Mike Miller,
Baltimore, MD; a stepson, John Edlund, Shawnee, KS; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. (The Kansas

ELLIOTT, RUTH
Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Ruth Elliott, 82, died Thursday, December 2, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society-Sherman County in Goodland.
She was born April 9, 1928, in Crawford County, Kansas, the daughter of Edith (Hoggatt) and William Jones, Sr. She graduated from Frontenac High School, and in 1946, she made her home inGoodland.
On May 6, 1948, she and Ernest Hugh Elliott were married at Goodland. She and Ernie owned and operated Elliott Furniture in Goodland.
As an avid golfer, Ruth could often be found at Sugar Hills Golf Club, where she was a member. She enjoyed cooking for friends and family, and collecting cookbooks. Playing cards and working crossword puzzles were hobbies that she enjoyed. Ruth was a lover of life.
Preceding her in death were her husband Ernie Elliott, grandson Jonathan William Elliott, her parents, brother William Jones, Jr., and sister Addie Rhoads.
Surviving family includes son Michael Bruce Elliott and his wife Mary Ann of Goodland; son William Hugh Elliott and his wife Jan of Manhattan; daughter Jacqueline Ann Elliott of Goodland; four grandchildren James Hugh Elliott and his wife Lisa of Wichita; Thomas Lee Elliott of Manhattan; Teresa Hoppe and her husband Marshal of Goodland; Tonya Medina and her husband Brian of Weskan; six great-grandchildren Jack Elliott, Julianne Elliott, Spencer Medina, Trever Medina, Breanna Medina, Emily Hoppe; niece Pat Pickett and her husband Jim of Olathe; nephews Mark Rhoads and his wife Lori of Lake Lure, North Carolina; Bill Rhoads and his wife Dorene of Nevada, Missouri; Mike Rhoads and his wife Alicia of Garden City; niece Caroline Pettibone and her husband Gordon of Goodland.
The funeral will be Monday, December 6, at 2:30 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Reverend H. A. Lycett officiating.
Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

EVERT, JUDITH ANN
Judith Ann Evert 73, of Carson, Washington, lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, June 17, 2006, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 22, 1932, in Goodland, Kansas, to Nicholas R. and Betty Sue (Newton) Walker at Boothroy Memorial Hospital.
Judith graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1949, then attended Kansas University and Hutchinson Junior College where she received her Associates of Arts Degree in 1952. She returned to Goodland to take a position at the Sherman County Welfare Office as a caseworker.
Judith married Robert J. Evert on January 22, 1954, in Goodland, Kansas. They moved fromGoodland to make their
home in Montana, South Dakota and finally in Carson, Washington.
Judith had many interests throughout her life. She was an avid reader, spent many hours as a volunteer at her children's
school, helped with her children's sports and scouting activities, active in her church activities, and found time
to keep up a regular exercise regimen. She was dedicated to her work in the Skamania County Health Department,
Sheriff's Department, Assessor's Office, and as a bailiff in the County courthouse. Judith was a very independent,
strong-willed, ambitious, and compassionate woman. She had a genuine concern for her friends and those in need,
which was a virtue that many admired. Her love and devotion to her family went beyond the boundaries of imagination.
Judith is survived by daughter, Deborah Evert-Frasieur and her husband, Bob of Portland, Oregon; son, Timothy Evert and his wife, Denyce of Lancaster, California; son, Robert Evert and his wife, Patty of Carson, Washington; brother, Jack Walker of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her faithful Airedale companion, "Rosie." She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1996, her parents, and brother, James (Pete).
A memorial reception will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2006 from 1-3pm at Gardner Funeral Home in Stevenson,

FARLEY, JEROME S.
Jerome S. Farley, 63, Kansas City, Kan., died Oct. 31, 1992, at Providence-St. Margaret Health Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Olliff-Boeve Chapel, Phillipsburg, Kan.; burial in Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg. The family suggests contributions to the life-saving equipment fund of the Phillips County Hospital or to the aviary of the Phillips County Retirement Center, both in Phillipsburg. Mr. Farley was born in Kirwin, Kan., and lived in Phillipsburg and Goodland in Kansas before he moved to Kansas City, Kan., 17 years ago. He was a surveyor for the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Tiny Feather Dies of Heart Attack
Goodland, Kan. - Elwin (Tiny) Feather, former Kansas State University and New York Giants fullback died of a heart attack Thursday. He was 63. In recent years he had farmed in this area. (Dallas Morning New, July 16, 1965, section B, page 6)
GREGORY, BUFORD L.
Dr. Buford L. Gregory passed away Monday, July 19, 1999 at home after a long battle with cancer.
Buford was born November 17, 1927 in Goodland, Kansas to Bert Lortain and Elsa Louisa Reinhardt Gregory. He
married Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Miller in Kansas City,
MO, June 2, 1951. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended Ft. Hayes State College
and Brigham Young University. He graduated from Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery in September 1950.
Buford completed an internship in general medicine and surgery and completed residences in orthopedic surgery.
He practiced as a physician and surgeon for over 40 years in Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Missouri, Arizona, California
and Utah. Doc loved making people feel better, not only as a doctor, but also as a friend. Buford was active in
the LDS Church where he held many positions.
He is survived by 10 children: Spike (Lisa Beth) of Grand Rapids, MI; Lindi of Bountiful; Fritz D. (Denise) of West Valley; Paulee of Salt Lake City; Penny Drennan (Robert) of Salt Lake City; Kirk (Randi) of Orlando, FL; Gene of Lehi; Carol Williams (DeVon) of Hurricane; Shaun (Denise) of Zeeland, MI; Eric of Salt Lake City; and 28 grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Lois Bruse; and brother, William Gregory. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy and a son, Joseph Ian.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 23, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Lewiston 1st Ward Chapel, 10 South 1600 West. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the Church on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Lewiston City Cemetery. David was born June 27, 1929, to Thomas & Permilia James in Rocky Ford, Colo. He served in the U.S. Army in Munich, Germany during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Colorado Springs Bible College in 1957, and later married Gladys Henry in 1961 (who preceded him in death in 1990). They lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., and raised two sons. He later pastored in South Dakota andGoodland, Kansas, before retiring in Olathe. He was a member of College Church of the Nazarene.
He was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
David is survived by sons, Darrell James of North Kansas City, Mo., and Merlin (Stephanie) James of Olathe; his fiancée, Myrna Van Ostrand; and two grandchildren, Spencer and Kristen James. (The Olathe News, September 10, 2008)

Melvin Keith Jennings, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died February 16, 1992, after a long valiant battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 9, 1912, in Goodland, Kansas to LeRoy Henry and Pearl Jane Simmons Jennings. Married Marjorie Wood July 8, 1937, in Ogden, Utah. Graduated from Norton High School, Norton,Kansas and attended Weber College. Worked for Salt Lake Tribune, Salt Lake Tel, Deseret New and United Press and International Press, for a period of 17 years. Served as public relations director for Service Merchandisers of America until his retirement.
Survived by his wife of 54 years; two daughters and two sons, Anne S. Jennings, Brooke (Ernest) Wood, both of Salt Lake City; Craig W. Jennings, Seattle, Wash.; M. Scott Jennings, Seoul, So. Korea; five grandchildren. Kristen Burns, Antony Burns, Alexander Burns, Cameron Anne Keene, and Shane Jennings; two brothers and their spouses, Rollen L. Jennings (Carrie) and Robert E. Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident, Susan Lee Jensen, 62, died May 5, 2006, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born July 24,1943, in Lancaster, California, the daughter of Lee H. Schriewer and Jane (Caufield) Schriewer. She graduated from Midwest City High School in 1961, and Central State University in 1965, both in Oklahoma. On May 27,1966, she and Gary L. Jensen were married in Goodland, KS. She served in Unified School District 352 as a teacher for 42 years. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City, and Delta Kappa Gamma in Goodland. Preceding her in death were her parents. Surviving family members are her husband of Goodland; daughter Michelle Benton of Manchester, New Hampshire; two granddaughters Joslyn Liby of Manchester, New Hampshire and Dayne Webring of Goodland; brother Jack Schriewer, his wife Jeanne, and their children Joanna and Emily; brother Eddie Schriewer, his wife Bonnie, and their daughter April; brother Rick Schriewer, his wife Pam, and their daughters Jamie and Kimberly, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Charles L. Jones, born September 12, 1905 in Kanardo, Kansas, a son of John C. and Winoma German Jones. Married Kathryn Forker August 3, 1929 in Midwest, Wyoming. She died April 18, 1987. He lived in Midwest, Wyoming and in the Bountiful area for the past 50 years. He loved golf.
He is survived by three sons, Harold D. KING, JAMES D.
Had Been in Employ of Street Car Company Nearly 29 Years - James D. King, the second oldest employee of the street car company in point of service, died yesterday morning at the age of 63 years of heart disease in Long Beach, Calif., where he had gone for his health, according to a telegram received by Mrs. Martha Ford, 230 South Tejon Street. He left here January 19 to spend the winter in California.
Coming here from Kansas, Mr. King started to work for the street car company June 9, 1893, a year after the system was electrified, and would have been in the service 29 years in June. He was well known to Manitou residents, having been on that line for nearly 20 years until a few years ago he was transferred to the Roswell line.
Mr. King had boarded at the home of Mrs. Martha Ford, 230 South Tejon street, for eight years. He is survived
by a daughter, Mrs. Forrest Smith, living in Wyoming, and a son, Leo in Goodland, Kan. The body will arrive here

KIRK, WINIFRED B.
Former Goodland, Kansas resident Winifred B. Kirk, 91, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Atria Hearthstone East in Topeka.
She was born November 11, 1915, at Kanorado, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Martha Pearl (White) Richardson. She graduated with the class of 1932 from Kanorado High School.
On October 12, 1940, she married Ross N. Kirk.
Winnie worked at the First National Bank in Goodland for forty-five years, retiring as senior vice-president in 1988.
In 1999, she moved into an assisted living community in Topeka, where she was near her family.
She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Goodland, Business and Professional Women (BPW), and several bowling leagues. She loved to bowl, and began when the bowling alley was built.
Preceding her in death were her husband Ross; her parents; and eight brothers and sisters.
Surviving family includes her daughter Sharon Bennett of Topeka; son Gary Kirk and his wife Liz of San Diego, California; granddaughter Lisa Searcy, and her children Kirk and Kaitlin of Littleton, Colorado; step-granddaughter Brandy Best, her husband Tom, and their son Aiden; step-grandson John Tighe, his wife Jamie, and their daughter Winter, all of San Diego, California; and one brother Doris Richardson and his family of Kanorado.
The funeral was held Saturday, August 4, at 2:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Pastor Bud Chester officiating. Burial followed in the Goodland Cemetery.

Mrs. Kroskey was born Donna R. Weston on Jan. 31, 1968, in Rantoul, Ill. She was an events coordinator and admissions representative at Northwest Kansas Technical College, Goodland.
Survivors include her husband, Gregory, of Goodland; three sons, Zachary Prine, LeRoy Prine and Duncan Kroskey, all of Goodland; four brothers, James Weston of Provo, Utah, Michael Weston of Fifelake, Mich., Robert Weston of Acme, Mich., and Jonathan Weston of Kingsley, Mich.; a sister, Nicole Enware of Novi, Mich.; and her parents, Donald and Sandra Weston, of Kingsley, Mich.

Antonio Marez, 55, formerly of Goodland, died Saturday, May 1, 2010, in Denver. He was born Nov. 8, 1954, in Mexico. He moved to Goodland in 1964 and attended Goodland High School and Northwest Kansas Technical College. He worked in Denver until he retired in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ceasario; and sister, Ninsa Bartlett. Survivors include his mother, Consuelo; and sister, Angie Barton, both of Aurora, Colo.

L.D. "Larry" Morgan, 96, Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Goodland, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.
He was born Aug. 27, 1910, in Smith Center to Bradford and Bertha (Williams) Morgan. He graduated from Smith Center High School and earned a degree in animal science from Kansas State University.
He married Isabel Potter in 1935. He was an agricultural loan officer for 36 years and bank director for 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Lyn Morgan, Avon, Colo.; two daughters, Constance Morgan, Denver, and Brenda Kolb, Prairie Village; a sister, Lois Kennedy, Manhattan; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Mountain time Friday at First United Methodist Church, Goodland; private inurnment in Goodland Cemetery.

Ryan Lee Morin, 30, Manhattan, died May 20 at his home from cancer.
He was born March 26, 1969 in Goodland. He worked as a computer network engineer for Information and Educational Technology at Kansas State Research and Technology. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Bridget of Manhattan; his parents, Vic and Betty Morin, Sharon Springs; and two sisters, Lynda Townsend, Goodland, and Dianne Freyermuth, Kansas City, Kan.

He was born June 28, 1947, in Phillipsburg, to Harold O. and Luella (Brees) Parker. He was a graduate of high school in Long Island and Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School ,Goodland.
He married Rosanna Hayden on Dec. 31, 1968, in Goodland. He was an over-the-road truck driver for Yellow Transportation. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Brad Parker, Goodland; his parents, Long Island; and a brother, Lauren Parker, Goodland.
Services will be today at First United Methodist Church, Goodland; burial in Goodland Cemetery with military honors.

RAUSCER, MAXINE
Rauscher, Maxine, 91, longtime Goodland, Kansas resident, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Goodland Regional Medical Center. She was born August 6, 1916, in Long Island,Kansas, the daughter of Harlen and Clara (Thornton) Atkinson. On April 16, 1939, she and Dale Rauscher were married in Sharon Springs, Kansas, and to this union a daughter Jane was born. Over the course of her very active and full life, Maxine was involved in many organizations including, but certainly not limited to, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, PEO, National Association of Retired Employees, and the National Society of Decorative Painters. She was a member of the Goodland Arts Council, was on the board of the High Plains Museum in Goodland, and was an accredited Priscilla Hauser instructor for decorative painting. During her many years working for the First National Bank, Maxine enjoyed making floats for the Sherman County Fair, as well as painting and decorating various scenes, which have been displayed at the bank for Christmas seasons over the years. Along with Connie Hatcher and Jeanette Foust, she painted the Christmas Murals, which have been displayed throughout Christmas in the vicinity of Goodland Regional Medical Center. She lovingly hand-stitched banners and painted the Stations of the Cross, which are displayed throughout St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Maxine also made the banner displayed in the chapel at the GoodlandRegional Medical Center. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband Dale Rauscher, who died August 10, 1994. Surviving family includes her sister Melva Stephan of Goodland; daughter Jane Harris of Wichita; two grandsons Bryan Stephens and his wife Tammy of Hutchinson; Brad Baker and his wife Shannon of Andover; six great-grandchildren Kiley Rosenstiel and her husband Joe of Wichita Falls, Texas; Caleb Stephens and Kirk Stephens, both of Wichita; Paige Baker, Riley Baker, and Griffin Baker, all of Andover; numerous nieces and nephews; and another Stephens great-grandson, due in June of 2008. Martha E. Rogers, 90, of Goodland, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center, Goodland, Kansas. She had been a resident there for the past four years. She was born April 30, 1911 in West Hoboken, and was the daughter of William F. and Marie Mary Louise (Burkle) Freideman. She attended schools in Morris and Passaic counties and lived most of her growing up years in Pequannock.
On June 29, 1935, she and her late husband, Edward W. were married in the Pequannock Reformed Church in Wayne; from this union two children were born. She was living in Cape May Court House when she moved to Goodland in October, 1996, and lived in Sparks Towers for the next six months and then became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, Goodland.
She is survived by one daughter Carol M. Baum and husband W. Ken of Goodland; one son, Edward W. Jr., and his wife, Cathie of Pequannock; four grandchildren, Roy and Annette Baum of Topeka, KS; Warren and Michele Baum, Jr. of Broomfield, CO; Scott Rogers of Pequannock; and Craig Rogers of Edison; three great grandchildren, Justin Gilstrap, and Daniel and Kelly Baum. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers. Jim was born in Limon, Colorado on November 9, 1923, the son of James Joseph and Lou Chambers Ryan, who preceded him in death. He spent his boyhood in Goodland, Kansas before moving to Kansas City,Kansas in 1938. He graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II as a member of Patton's army. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge and received a Bronze Star for Heroism. Returning from the war, he enrolled at Rockhurst College where he graduated in 1949 with a B.S. in economics. During college he was class president, captain of the basketball team and was elected into the Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges. He received his master's degree in education from Central MissouriState University. His involvement with Rockhurst College continued after his graduation, serving as president of the Alumni Association and radio broadcaster for the basketball team for 18 years. He was inducted into the Rockhurst College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987. He was nominated for an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1988 and named as a Rockhurst Star of Yesteryear in 1995. After leaving Rockhurst College, he began a long and successful career teaching and coaching at Immaculata of Leavenworth, Rockhurst High School and Pembroke Hill School. At Pembroke Hill he was principal of the middle school and varsity basketball coach from 1965 to 1974, where he coached two teams to the Final Four State Championships. From 1974 to 1982 he was Pembroke's Director of Admissions and was later inducted into the Pembroke Hill Hall of Fame. Jim was a football official for 25 years, was a rules interpreter for the State of Missouri, and served as president of the K.C. Officials Association. He was also on the first sideline crew for the Kansas City Chiefs. Jim was a member of the St. Ann's Church and The Knights of Columbus. Preceding him in death were his brother, Rupert Ryan, and two sisters, Evelyn Schiefen and Lorraine Fagan. Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth Dearborn Ryan; four daughters, Anne Pritchett, Jeanne Sosland, Patty Ryan and Peggy Gardella; three sons-in-law, Jim Pritchett, Charlie Sosland and Jeff Gardella; and seven grandchildren. SOWARD, SELBY S.
Selby Strong Soward, 69, Goodland, Kan., formerly of Kansas City, died Dec. 24, 1991, at a Goodlandhospital. He was born in Kansas City and lived in Topeka before moving to Goodland in 1949. Mr. Soward practiced law in Goodland for 42 years and was formerly Goodland city attorney and county attorney of Sherman County, Kan. Earlier he was a lawyer in the Kansas attorney general's office in Topeka. He was president of the Sherman County Bar, a board member and past officer of theKansas Bar Association and a member of the Kansas Association of Defense Lawyers. He was a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
He attended the University of Kansas and received bachelor's and law degrees from Washburn University. He was an Army captain during World War II and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He formerly headed the Sherman County Camp Fire Girls Council. He was past president of Sugar Hills Golf Club in Goodland, a member of the Goodland Rotary Club and the Goodland Elks Lodge, and a past member of the Goodland Kiwanis Club. He was a member and past warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Goodland, where he was a lay reader, vestry member and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Western Kansas Episcopal Diocesan Council and received the bishop's award for outstanding service. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Soward of the home; three daughters, Molly Chabalowski, Bel Air, Md., Sarah Blank, Michigan City, Ind., and Katie Martin, Smith Center, Kan.; three sisters, Elizabeth Batty, Sterling, Colo., Dolores Corbett, Kan sas City, Kan., and Miriam McGranahan, Wichita; and six grandchildren. STRUCKHOFF, MARK
Mark Struckhoff, 46, Goodland, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Swedish Medical Center, Englewood, Colo.
He was born Aug. 1, 1961, in Fort Riley to Charles A. and Beatrice M. (Beckman) Struckhoff. He attended Goodland
schools and Northwest Kansas Technical College, Goodland.
He was a computer design operator and a landscaper.
Survivors include his father, Colby; his mother, Beatrice M. Driver, Goodland; a sister, Mary Beth Zwick, Goodland; three step-brothers, Kenton Driver, and Bill McGinley, both of Salina, and Jim McGinley, Colby; and a step-sister, DeAnn Rose, Emporia.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Mountain time Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church,Goodland; burial in Goodland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Mountain time today at Koons Chapel, Goodland.

TROUT, HERCHELL R.
Funeral for Herchell R. Trout, a Milwaukie resident will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Milwaukie Funeral Home followed by private committal in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Mr. Trout died Friday. He was born Sept. 14, 1889 in Goodland, Kan., and worked from 1912 as an ironworker in Portland. He retired in 1955. Mr. Trout was a member of Iron Workers Local No. 29, and the Goodland Masonic Lodge in Kansas. He was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include the widow, Helene E., three daughters, Mrs. Pat Malone, Coulee City, Wash., Mrs. Ed Fish, Spokane and Mrs. Helen Brumley, Priest River, Idaho; and a sister, Mrs. W. F. Eicher, Craig, Colo. (Oregonian, March 13, 1966, page 26)
UREN, CLIFFORD
Clifford Uren, who has been in a critical condition since being injured while riding the hand-car about 3 weeks ago, died in a Goodland hospital Sunday. His brother-in-law, Mr. Cox, who is working on the Rock Island here, was called out Saturday. Funeral services were held Wednesday. Ray Fordham and the Spragues attended. Fordham and Harry Sprague assisted as pallbearers at the funeral in Fairbury. Our sympathy goes out to his bereaved wife and three small children. VIETTI, PETER JOHN SR.
Peter John Vietti, Sr., 82 years, died peacefully at home in Sandy, Oct. 18, 1995, after a courageous fight with cancer.
Born November 2, 1912 in Marceline, Missouri, to Anthoni John and Margherita Savant Vietti. Married Annie McGeehan on November 25, 1940 in Goodland, Kansas. She died April 13, 1974. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, on the aircraft carrier USS Kwajalein. Retired from Atlas Copco after 25 years. Member of the Lakewood Elks Lodge #1777. He enjoyed the many activities at the Heritage Senior Citizens Center of Murray, especially the frequent trips to Wendover.
Survived by sons, Peter (Carla), of Sandy; Larry, of Santa Ana, Calif.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Aloha), West Valley City; Raymond (Marie), Bucklin, Missouri; Roy (Pauline), Leavenworth, Kansas; Charles (Helen), Blue Springs, Missouri; brothers-in-law, James (Jeri) McGeehan, Lawrence (Jackie) McGeehan, all St. George, Utah; Leo (Claudia) McGeehan, Reno, Nevada; Robert Bruebaker, Kansas City, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Louise (Don) Barta, Salt Lake City; Angel (Harry) Schwartzman, St. George, Utah. Many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and four sisters.
A special thanks to Dr. Weis, Missy, Nila and the Hospice group, Joyce, Judith, and Shannon.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 23, 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 E. Creek Road (80th South). Vigil Service will be held Sunday, 7 p.m. at the Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 So. where friends may call Sunday 6-7 p.m. Committal, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 4th Avenue and "T" Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Thomas More Catholic Church or the Fred Hitchingson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, Wash. (The Salt Lake Tribune, October 21, 1995)
WELSH, JESSIE
Dies on A Train
Miss Jessie Welsh, a healthseeker from Lawrence, Mass., died yesterday morning on the train which was bearing her home, near Goodland, Kan. She had been living in this city for a number of months but her health failed rapidly during the last week, and, with her mother, she had started home in the hope that the lower attitude would benefit her. Ed Williams, 49, Wichita, formerly of Goodland, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at his home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1956, in Joplin, Mo. He graduated from Goodland High School and Northwest Kansas Technical College.
Survivors include his parents, Lawrence and Barbara Patmon, Goodland; a brother, Ben Williams, Plains; and two sisters, Terry Rosin, Sharon Springs, and Rebecca Rubio, Goodland.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Mountain time Monday at Goodland Cemetery; burial to follow.
Visitation will be from10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mountain time at Koons Chapel, Goodland.
