VIRGIL L. PICKETT DIES UNEXPECTEDLY
Virgil L. Pickett, the youngest son of Malcolm and Ethel Bolejack Pickett, was born in Marshall County near Waterville, October 14, 1931. Virgil served his country four years in the U.S. Air Force, two of which were in Europe during the Korean conflict. He was united in marriage to Margaret Marie Kastrup June 1, 1959. They made their home at Ellis, Kansas and later moved to Casper, Wyoming. He was a machine operator and worked at construction. Virgil died March 7, 1966 at Casper following a sudden and acute illness.
Virgil leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Margaret of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Pickett of Barnes, Kansas; four sisters, Mrs. Edwin Anderson of Blue Rapids, Mrs. Gail Strawhacker of Kingman, Kansas, Mrs. Verlin Wiechman of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mrs. Ernest Wiechman of Holton, Kansas and one brother, William A. Pickett of Barnes; along with other friends and relatives.
The funeral services was Friday March 11, 1966 at the Youngberg Funeral Home in Waterville. Reverend John F. Richter of Blue Rapids Methodist Church conducted the service. Mrs. C. H. Youngberg sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer" with Mrs. A. N. McAtee accompanist. Casket bearers were: Omar Pickett, Foster Pickett, Lloyd Pickett, Fred Mann, Paul Mann, and Roy Osborne. Interment was in Mound Cemetery south of Barnes, Kansas with presentations of the U.S. flag by the Barnes American Legion representatives.

Virgil was then transported to Barnes, Kansas for
the funeral service that is listed in the photo above.
Virgil L. Pickett, 34, died Monday at Natrona County Memorial Hospital after being stricken by leukemia a month
ago.
Pickett came to Casper with his family in 962. He was a heavy equipment operator for Jamens McIntosh Construction Co. of Casper.
Pickett was born Oct. 14, 1931 in Barnes, Kansas. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
He and his wife Margaret Marie, were married June 1, 1959 at Blue Rapids, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife at the family home in Casper ; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Pickett of Barnes, Kansas ; one brother , William of Barnes, Kansas ; four sisters, Mrs. Lucille Anderson of Blue Rapids, Kansas ; Mrs. LaVone Strawhacker of Kingman, Kansas ; Mrs. Patricia Wichman of Holton, Kansas; and Mrs. Valica Wichman of Omaha, Neb.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at Memorial Chapel at 2 P.M. with Rev. Neil Warner of the First Methodist Church officiating. The body will then be entrained for Waterville, Kansas for interment.
NOTE: On the obit for Virgil Pickett the newspaper made an error as to Mrs. Verlin Wiechman , ( should be Wichman ) ,of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mrs. Ernest Wiechman, (should be Wichman ) ,of Holton, Kansas and one brother, William A. Pickett of Barnes; along with other friends and relatives. With both Verlin, my uncle , and Ernest my father should the newspaper should have spelled it Wichman.
