COUNTY HISTORY

 
Was formed from Hickman and McCracken Counties. It was created on Feb. 15, 1842.
Named in the honor of Captain Bland W. Ballard, of Allen's Rifle Regiment
Most records were destroyed in a courthouse fire on Feb. 17, 1880.
