Welcome to Barren County Genealogy Trails

My name is Cyndi Lancaster Hanes and I am the coordinator of this site. I was born in Barren County and though I have moved away I have many family members still there and a part of my heart will always be there. I am excited to grow this page and provide information that can help others in their search for their Barren connections.

If you have information to add please contact me. I regret that I am unable to perform personal research for folks. All data I come across will be added to this site. Thank you for visiting and please come back again to view the updates I make to this site.

History

Barren County was formed in 1798 with land from Warren and Green counties. The name "Barren" was taken from the grasslands that cover the northern third of the county. It originally extended from the Green River on the north to the Tennessee line on the south. Today the county is about a third of it's original size. The county seat is Glasgow, named to honor the Scottish settlers.
