COUNTY HISTORY The county is named for Joshua Fry Bell. Formed from Harlan and Knox Counties, it was originally known as Josh Bell County. Its county seat is Pineville. Records were lost in fires in 1914 and 1918. Also records were damaged with some loss in a flood in 1976.
